ans-for-ground-zero-community-center-1.308426

Hello,

Another story at the A.P. caught my eye:

Quote:

From the Assinine Press:

Republican representatives and many New York residents were outspoken against the building of the community center so close to Ground Zero. "It's insensitive and uncaring," said Catherine Valence before the announcement. "If they really want to build a bridge of understanding, they should do it elsewhere. This is hallowed ground, and putting a mosque here dishonors everyone who lost their lives or loved ones in the 9/11 attacks."

Now that the change has been announced, former critics of the community center have been clamoring to commend those responsible. "I thought those Muslims were insensitive for building their community center here," said Matthew Williamson. "But now that they've changed the location, I think they are sensitive, caring folks."

"I don't understand," commented Bill Francis, a hot dog vendor who was opposed to the center. "I thought this was a victory Mosque to rub our noses in the attacks. I can't figure out why they'd move it just because we complained. It's like they aren't extremists at all. My world is upside down. I don't know what to believe."

Peter King (R-NY), a former outspoken critic, was jubilant. "Hey, maybe most Muslims really are peaceful. Now that they've shown how sensitive and caring they are, I'm starting a 'Hug a Muslim' movement. When you hug a muslim, I'll send you this squeezy Muhammad pin that you can wear on your shirt. I think everyone in the party will be wearing one in no time."

Or possibly some folks are grinning and saying, "We showed them! Another Win for Team America!"

Could go either way.

If New York's Muslims are sensitive, caring, and understanding, it's no wonder they're unwelcome there. Buncha freaks! They definitely don't fit into NYC with those kind of attitudes.

Mosque Developer Rejects Moving to New Location
But a meeting with Paterson may still be in the works
Updated 5:20 PM EDT, Wed, Aug 18, 2010

The developer of an Islamic cultural center that would include a mosque two blocks from Ground Zero appear to have rejected Gov. David Paterson's offer to help them find a different site but a meeting may still be in the works.

On Tuesday, Rep. Peter King said he learned the governor planned to speak with the imam and developers of the mosque and cultural center later this week. Both King and Paterson are scheduled to discuss the issue on Larry King Live tonight.
Lead developer Sharif El-Gamal told NY1 yesterday no meeting had been scheduled yet. Since Paterson first offered to help broker a new location for the mosque last week, however, El-Gamal has insisted the subject was not up for debate, stressing the proximity of the planned center to Ground Zero was not an issue.

"Park51 is a community center. It is two blocks north of the World Trade Center site,” El-Gamal told NY1. “In New York City, two blocks is a great distance. There are some buildings in New York that have their own zip codes. There is such a scarcity of space in New York, especially in Lower Manhattan. Keep in mind this is a small island, so we are nowhere near the World Trade Center site." http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local-beat/Mosque-Developer-Says-No-Mee

And then there's the small matter of the funding.... Miss Pelosi....are you paying attention ???

Maybe we should investigate where FauxNews gets THEIR funding then. They certainly haven't ruled out taking money from Saudi Arabia (and giving it to the GOP).

...and the first order of business for the new Republican-controlled Congress should be erasing from the memory of mankind everything Obama, Pelosi, and Reid have shoved down American's throats. Everything that's only making things much worse. Then it's on to Obama himself....

Canada Free Press
Fred Dardick

List of Impeachable Crimes

1.Convicted felon and Chicago real estate developer Tony Rezko’s purchase of land adjacent to Obama’s house in Hyde Park, IL. In 2006, Rezko sold a 10 foot strip of his property to Obama for $104,500, rendering the remainder of Rezko’s $625,000 investment too small to be developed and, for all intents and purposes, worthless.
2.The provision of Obama campaign donor lists to ACORN in 2007 and 2008, more complete than the ones he gave to the FEC. ACORN used the lists to raise money for Obama’s election from donors who had already maxed out their legally allowable contributions.
3.Widespread voter fraud including voter intimidation, ballot stuffing, falsified documents, and threats of violence against Hillary Clinton supporters committed by the Obama campaign and ACORN during the 2008 Democrat primary election. For more information see my CFP article How Obama Used an Army of Thugs to Steal the 2008 Democratic Party Nomination.
4.Obama’s refusal to release his long form birth certificate which would show conclusively that he is a dual citizen and therefore not constitutionally eligible to serve as President. Obama’s college records, which have also not been released, would also contain information regarding his dual citizenship status.
5.Protecting union interests over those of GM and Chrysler bond holders during bankruptcy proceedings, forcing investors to accept millions of dollars in losses in direct violation of bankruptcy laws, money to which they were legally entitled.
6.Preferential treatment given to minority and women owned car dealerships by Obama administration officials as part of the auto industry bailout program and the forced closing of a disproportionate number of dealerships located in rural areas that did not vote for Obama.
7.Unsubstantiated firing of Corporation for National and Community Service Inspector General Gerald Walpin for exposing Sacramento Mayor and Obama supporter Kevin Johnson’s misuse of an $850,000 AmeriCorps grant.
Purchase of Congressional support for the passage of Obama’s healthcare bill including the “Cornhusker Kickback”, “Louisiana Purchase” and having the Department of Interior increase water allocations to the Central Valley of California to secure the votes of Democrat Reps. Dennis Cardoza and Jim Costa.
8.Lying to the American people by promising they could keep their healthcare coverage if they wanted to, when in reality tens of millions will be forced out of their current plans.
Attempted bribery of Rep. Joe Sestak with job offers to get him to drop out of the Senate primary race against Sen. Arlen Specter.
Directing the EPA to unilaterally set carbon emission standards, thus bypassing Congress which opposes Obama’s energy reform bill. For more information see my CFP article Forget Cap and Trade: EPA Regulation of CO2 Emissions Will Begin in 10 Months.
9.The Obama administration’s statement that a panel of experts had agreed with their plan for a 6 month Gulf Coast drilling moratorium, when in actuality none of them had supported the measure.
10.Bullying BP to set up a $20 billion slush fund to compensate Gulf Coast businesses and residents affected by the oil spill, to be administered by an Obama political appointee without any judicial or congressional oversight.
Implementing a third oil-drilling moratorium after the first two were thrown out of court, creating a de facto Gulf Coast offshore drilling ban in opposition to two judge’s rulings.
11.Establishment of a commission to investigate the Gulf Coast oil spill that contains not one oil industry expert and whose transparent purpose is to push a partisan political agenda rather than investigate the cause of the disaster.
12.Obama’s policy of intentionally not securing our nation’s borders, in opposition to Article IV, Section 4 of the Constitution which calls for the President to protect states from foreign invasion, in an attempt to blackmail Republican support for comprehensive immigration reform. In essence, Obama is holding border states and residents politically hostage during a time they are being overrun by a narco-paramilitary invasion.
13.Department of Justice illegal race based policies regarding voter fraud as exposed by former Justice attorney J. Christian Adams. This includes the dropping of voter intimidation charges against 2 Black Panthers brandishing weapons in front of a voting location in Philadelphia and the stated intention by political appointees to ignore voter crimes committed by African Americans, Latinos and other minorities.
14.Department of Justice purposefully allowing some states to continue their disenfranchisement of military personnel serving overseas in direct opposition to the 2009 Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment (MOVE) Act, which was established in response to the more than 17,000 military votes that were not counted in the 2008 election because ballots had arrived after the deadline.
15.Recess appointment of Donald Berwick as head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services without even a token attempt to put him through the Congressional nomination process, signaling that Congress’s constitutional obligation to vet presidential appointees means nothing to Obama. The same can be said of the 30+ Obama administration czars.
16.Spending $23 million of taxpayer money through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to support a constitutional referendum in Kenya in spite of the Siljander Amendment, which makes it illegal for the U.S. to lobby for abortion in other countries. The Kenyan referendum was partially written by Planned Parenthood and is designed to legalize abortion in that nation.
17.The participation of the Obama administration in the firing of Sherry Sherrod from the USDA without due process because of publicized out of context remarks she made at a NAACP meeting in March 2010.
18.The White House sham investigation of BP’s involvement in the release of the mass murdering Lockerbie bomber from prison. The Obama administration not only knew beforehand of the Scottish government’s plan to set Abdel Baset al-Megrahi free on “compassionate” grounds, they even sent a letter to Scottish authorities stating their preference for his remaining in Scotland over his transfer to a Libyan prison.
18.The canceling of 77 properly filed oil field development contracts approved by the Bush administration by Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, preventing the extraction of up to 3 trillion gallons of oil buried under Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and North Dakota, more than enough to end our dependence on foreign oil and supply the U.S. with its energy needs for hundreds of years at current consumption rates.
19.Investigations by the Department of Homeland Security to determine the political affiliation of people making Freedom of Information Act requests and the subsequent delay and even altogether ignoring of requests made by Republican affiliated individuals.
20.The hardest to prosecute in court, but worst crime of all that Obama has perpetrated against the American people is the economic tyranny his socialist policies have wrecked upon our nation. While Obama has been living the life of a king including frequent 5 star vacations, dozens of concerts at the White House and endless rounds of golf, all paid for by taxpayer money—the increased transportation and security costs alone are in the millions of dollars—he has called for the rest of us to endure economic sacrifice.
The annual trillion dollar deficits and borrowing of 41 cents of every dollar of federal spending by Obama is leading to unsustainable and potentially catastrophic national debt.

More Impeachable Crimes

Obama’s term as Board Chair of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge in the mid-1990s where he and his colleague, unrepentant terrorist William Ayers, misused over $300 million in private donations meant to improve the education of minorities. Instead of spending the money on traditional learning programs, Obama and Ayers directed the funds to local community activists who wasted it on trying to “radicalize” the students. An official review of the program found that it was a complete and utter failure.
As an Illinois State Senator, Obama directed tens of millions in state money to slumlords Valerie Jarrett and Tony Rezko meant to provide for housing for low income, minority tenants in return for political donations. Due to shoddy construction and nonexistent maintenance, the majority of the units, after less than 10 years of use, have been rendered uninhabitable.
Michelle Obama’s politically connected $316,000 VP of Community Affairs job at University of Chicago Hospitals while her husband was serving as US Senator. She was responsible for the design of an illegal “patient dumping” scheme that prevents local African Americans from using the emergency room at one of the nation’s finest hospitals and instead redirects them to community healthcare centers where they often receive substandard and inadequate treatment. The high paying position was eliminated soon after Mrs. Obama’s departure from the university.
Millions in illegal contributions accepted by the Obama campaign during his presidential run. Credit card filters designed to screen out foreign money and domestic donors who had maxed out their legally allowable limits, as required by US law, were intentionally switched off.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s ongoing effort to create international small arms accords that will subvert the Second Amendment rights of US citizens.
The Russian-American START treaty signed by Obama in April 2010 that has no chance of making it through Congress unless passed during the lame duck session. Not only does the treaty hamstring US missile defense development and make it difficult to modernize our rapidly aging nuclear weapons arsenal, it represents unilateral disarmament by the US in return for nothing more than Russian “good will”.
Moving control of the Census Bureau from the Commerce Department directly into the White House where it is managed by Chief of Staff Rham Emmanuel.
Providing de facto amnesty to illegal immigrants by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director John Morton, who has prohibited ICE officers from enforcing US immigration laws outside the institutional setting. The ICE union has subsequently taken the unprecedented step of voting “no confidence” in Morton’s leadership.
Attorney General Erik Holder’s failure to sue sanctuary cities for violating US immigration law, while at the same time proceeding with a lawsuit against the State of Arizona for enforcing US immigration law.
Failure by Obama to treat the takeover of sovereign land in Arizona by the Mexican drug cartel as an Act of War.
Refusal by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Administrator David L. Strickland to release results from an internal investigation into the Toyota sudden acceleration problem that contains findings favorable to the foreign automaker.
Ongoing efforts by FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski to gain control over the internet in opposition to a judge’s ruling and Congress’s will, by reclassifying internet companies as telecommunication providers thus making them subject to FCC regulation.
Obama and his environmentalist allies preventing US industries from taking advantage of our rich natural resources including oil, coal, uranium and timber.
Obama’s month long stint as UN Security Council Chair in 2009, the first ever by a sitting U.S. President. Not only did this action give credibility to an international organization ruled by tyrants, it also called into question potential dual loyalties by our President.
The Obama National Security Strategy released in May that allows for the targeted assassination of US citizens including “homegrown terrorists” without due process. It has also been described by the Kremlin, which knows quite a lot about these kinds of things, as a “new law put forth by President Obama capable of seeing up to 500,000 American citizens jailed for the crime of opposing their government.”
Obama executive order signed in Dec. 2009 that allows Interpol to operate in US territory with impunity and without oversight by Congress, the courts, FBI or local law enforcement.
Deployment of 1,200 National Guard troops to border states where they will not, under any circumstances, be used to stop the flow of illegal aliens or drug traffickers.
A foreign policy that can be best described as the turning away of our allies, in particular Great Britain, Israel, Honduras, Poland, Columbia, and Taiwan, and the embracement of our enemies.
The State Department using $23 million in taxpayer money to help transform Kenya into a constitutionally communist nation where the freedom of speech is limited and private property rights are subservient to “social justice”. In addition, the recently adopted Kenyan constitution allows for the practice of Sharia Law in some regions, ensuring women will not be guaranteed basic human rights.
Obama’s refusal to hold press conferences and answer difficult questions as expected of a US President. Never in the modern age has there been a President so unwilling to answer to the American people for his actions. Considering the public’s growing anger towards his progressive policies, it is doubtful Obama will ever hold another press conference again.
The $26 billion bailout of the teacher’s unions that Obama recently signed into law. Not only was the money taken from food stamp programs for poor Americans in order to fund Democrat special interests, a portion will be skimmed off the top as union dues and funneled to Democrat political campaigns this fall.
Obama’s involvement with Governor Rod Blagojevich’s attempt to sell his old Illinois Senate seat. Even if Obama didn’t try to purchase the position for his chosen replacement, slumlord Valerie Jarrett, at the very least he had to know the seat was for sale.
Department of Interior Secretary Ken Salazar’s plans to take control of millions of acres of public and private land in Western states by designating them national monuments. These efforts are being carried out in secret and without input from Congress, state and local officials and current land owners.
Obama’s use of taxpayer money to pay for Democrat propaganda including $15 million for The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act road signs and $18 million for the perpetually misleading recovery.gov website.
The lasting damage Obama has done to the Jewish people. In his less than two years in office, there has been an outpouring of hatred towards the Jews the likes of which I thought I would never live to see. From Helen Thomas telling the Jews to “get the hell out of Palestine” to heavily armed, terrorist flotillas destined for the Gaza Strip described as “peaceful” by the western press. From throwing stones at little old ladies leaving synagogue in Sweden to the thousands of Jewish families fleeing Muslim persecution in France, a sea change in world public opinion against the Jewish people has been accomplished during Obama’s term. Because of his refusal to speak out against virulent anti-Semitism being pushed by left-wing politicians and Islamists around the world, the harm to the Jewish people will surely outlive his presidency and could have terrible, unforeseen consequences.

Well, I hope they do move it, if ti makes people view them in a different light. But I will always be ashamed we made them, if that ends up being the case. It actually shows just how insensitve, uncaring and UN-understanding the American people are!

It would nonetheless be a good thing, because I feared for the safety of the community center and everyone involved. I had no doubt people would have been fired up enough by the visceral rhetoric against it that there would be violence.

Which says more about US than it does about THEM, even as does the initial rejection of the center.

As to that absurd "list", I got as far as the "voter fraud" and birth certificate thing. I could post again all the actual ELECTION FRAUD perpetuated by the Republicans, but it's not worth it, and the birth-certificate thing is such a joke that it destroys any credibility of the entire thing. It's a rant full of misinformation and outright lies, which is a shame, because otherwise it might have been worth reading. However, I took the time to read the rest anyway:

--The lie about the panel of experts regarding the drilling moratorium is carefully worded, but the fact remains that it didn’t happen. The report was released after being peer reviewed; it IMPLIED they hadn’t opposed the moratorium, and if we wanted to play games with all the things Republicans have “implied”, it would go on forever..
--“Establishment of a commission to investigate the Gulf Coast oil spill that contains not one oil industry expert”—so why should they be included?!?! We saw what they did previously and how they prostituted the MMS; their input would be merely to delay and use every tactic at their disposal to lessen anything that impinged on their profits.

--“Obama’s policy of intentionally not securing our nation’s borders”—that is pure, unadulterated bullshit. What did Bush ever do about “securing our nation’s borders” that Obama hasn’t done, and more?’

--“The participation of the Obama administration in the firing of Sherry Sherrod from the USDA”. Amazing. Given the REPUBLICANS demanded her firing loudly and vociferously, and the “furor” was CREATED by a right-wing whacko in the first place, yet they blame OBAMA???

--“The canceling of 77 properly filed oil field development contracts approved by the Bush administration”. So they should have let those contracts stand, despite the fact that “properly filed” is a joke—remember the MMS let BP FILL IN THEIR OWN INSPECTION REPORTS?? Given the prostitution of the MMS and how they’d allowed the oil companies to get away with EVERYTHING, “properly filed” is a misnomer so egregious as to be called outright bullshit!

--“economic tyranny his socialist policies have wrecked upon our nation. While Obama has been living the life of a king including frequent 5 star vacations, dozens of concerts at the White House and endless rounds of golf, all paid for by taxpayer money—the increased transportation and security costs alone are in the millions of dollars—he has called for the rest of us to endure economic sacrifice.” Now that is just crap. One glance at the wording is sufficient, but beyond that, I could cite much more egregious uses of the office regarding vacations, concerts, and many more things...not to mention that Obama never lied by saying he was ‘giving up’ golf!

That's as far as I bothered to get. The whole list, and the verbiage used to frame it, is a partisan rant of the worst possible kind. I notice no cite was provided; are you afraid we’d find out just what right-wing internet fringer wrote it? I guess so...we don’t know where it came from; it’s content is full of lies and distortions; thus its credibility is nonexistent.

It's not even a good try; if it had been worded reasonably and you'd left out the obvious lies, it might have been worth paying attention to. You missed an opportunity to make valid points, if there were any in there. You'll never convince anyone of anything with that kind of clap-trap.

Okay, I checked out the site. I agree with Mike: EVERYTHING on the first page is anti-Obama, scads and scads of links. And the article starts out:
Quote:

A few weeks ago I wrote an article From the White House to the Big House: 25 Impeachable Crimes and Counting that detailed 25 illegal acts committed by President Obama and his Democrat cohorts in Washington. It showed a President and political party willing to break the law at will in order to accomplish their political aims. Thanks to reader contributions and conservative writers around the country, here are 25 more for your consideration.
Given the President MOST deserving of investigation and prosecution was obviously Bush, some of whom in his administration WEREactually found guilty in a cout of law, given the fact that he broke the law quite clearly in wiretapping, waterboarding, indefinite detention, denial of counsel and so many other things, saying Obama is impeachable is absurd. There is no proof of all the claims, some are false on their face, others misleading and/or mischaracterized, and the source itself, nothing changes my mind.

If you could provide facts about any of the accusations from a reliable source, I'd read them and investigate on my own. But the numerous DOWNRIGHT FALSE ones make the entire list questionable at best, and the source is so severely wrapped up in its own agenda, it has no relevance for me.

My "dismissive and accusatory" verbiage was aimed at the article and it's author, not at you. I'm sad you buy into it so wholeheartedly, but I don't expect to change your mind.

And I agree wholeheartedly with Anthony that investigating who's funding the community center is insane and offensive. So would be the investigation of who's behind fighting it, unless the communit center funding is investigated. If it were, tit for tat in my opinion.

Surely that doesn't disqualify the validity of all or any part of it, does it?

Everthing these days is highly opinionated....NY Times? Washington Post? MSNBC? CBS? Maureen Dowd? You believe them to base all their opinion and hit pieces on proven facts? If there is an impeachment against Obama, facts will come out. There's a lot there to review.

Don't try to change my mind about Obama and this crop of Democrats under Pelosi-Reid. And don't be sad for me either. Actually, since I told you earlier that I've dropped the gutter stuff and personal attacks, I actually feel much, much better. And IF you're at all interested, I have a pledge that I could post detailing a "new set of ground rules" for posters here. Anyone could sign the pledge or not. Then we could know where we stand with each other. When you want to see it just ask for it. And I like seeing that you think Pelosi's idea to "investigate" opponents was insane too. I think she was just trying to intimidate people, but of course it just made her look even more ridiculous than she already is viewed by Americans.

Hello,

I try to be forthright and honest with people. I try to be civil and understanding. I try to do this always, though I have my slips and make my flippant quips. Particularly this happens on subjects of personal emotional value. When I err and injure someone's feelings, I try to have the consideration to apologize.

It is my continuing pledge.

I happen to agree with you as to what's behind the "investigation" of opponents of the community center. It makes about as much (little!) sense as investigating the funding of the center, and was probably just a "well, if that makes sense, then it makes sense to..." Not an unusual political ploy.

I don't expect to change anyone's mind. What I would wish for is to see more perspective, that both sides could see the good AND bad of the other side, rather than being so virulently partisan. I don't expect to, but it would sure be neat...I've seen those on the left do it here and I've done it, but I don't see much, or any, from the right.

I'm really glad dropping your previous "style" makes you feel better. Sure does me! I look forward to discussing and debating things with you a lot. Doesn't matter if we agree or not, it's just great to be ABLE to communicate.

My pledge is and always has been the same as Anthony's:

I'd be interested in reading your pledge out of interest, but you of course realize that there are those here who have no desire for civility and wouldn't partake of same under any circumstances. Would be awfully nice, but I'm not holding my breath!

Niki,

One of the big problems people are having with the mosque centers around the Imam there. Are you aware he:
... wants to see Sharia Law in America?
... assuming you know what Sharia Law is, would you ever want to see that in America for any woman?
... what about Gays? What does Sharia Law and this Imam have to say about gay rights?
... This Imam said America was responsible in part for 9/11 a few days after the event.
.... This Imam says he'll get funding from Iran if needed. Iran has repeatedly threatened to wipe Israel off the map. You ok with Ahmadinejad bankrolling the project?
....This Imam doesn't consider Hamas a terror group, even thought the UN and US State Dept do. Hamas' charter calls for the destruction of Israel. You ok with that?

But the 2 big ones are Gay Rights & Women's Rights... you're ok with all that Sharia stuff?

I'm very not ok with any of it. Perhaps you and others are not aware of these positions and statements from this Imam. It's all documented and easy to find. And when Pelosi launches her auto-de-fe, and Obama keeps reading us the Constitution, all of the Imam's radicalism will be revealed to all in America. But putting Sharia Law on the side for a minute, how does non-Sharia, regular old normal Islam handle Gays and Women?

Hello River,

Those facts are enlightening if true, and cause me to shake my head in disapproval at the man's ideas and philosophies regarding women, homosexuals, and the unjust Sharia Laws in general.

However, these statements do nothing to move me on the issue of the community center/mosque. Indeed, this is a man who needs to reach out to the community and build some bridges.

With all due respect, none of it should be that enlightening. The fight against this thing has been going on a long time. The 9/11 families have been engaged all along. The Imam won't budge, he won't consider anything other than his own dream, whatever that may actually be. I suggest, if you desire, you do your homework on this guy.

But there still are difficult questions to be answered concerning Gay Rights and Women's Rights, regardless of this one Imam.

By the way, what the Imam said about the U.S. not being completely blameless in regards to 9/11? GlenBeck has said that exact same thing on his show, almost word for word.

When do we deport him for hating America and preaching against us?

This Imam actively works with the FBI and U.S. intel agencies, helping them to gain insights into what to look for in radicalized Muslims, where to look, keywords, etc. He also has spoken at conferences on these issues and on what is REALLY in the Q'uran, and how these radicals are completely wrong.

We buy oil from Iran. Would you say that they are buying influence in our government through BP, ExxonMobil, Chevron, etc.? The Saudi government, through NewsCorp, the parent company of Fox News, just gave one million dollars to a group of Republican governors. Shouldn't we investigate that?

Last I checked, our nation is extremely tolerant of such opinions about women and gays when they come from Christian fundamentalists and Mormons.

So, Islam is a fundamentalist religion, who knew?

I take it you're saying that we should forbid some Muslims from building a community center on the grounds that they're religious fundamentalists? Would you be open to universalizing that policy? Please???

Hello,

I see some additional commentary was added.

"Obama keeps reading us the Constitution"

We should all wish that this President, and all future Presidents, quote and follow the Constitution. In fact, I wish this president would dig into the Constitution more often, and abide by its strictures more thoroughly. May the Presidents of the U.S. frequently remember, quote from, and follow the Constitution at all times.

As to the rest...

Many religions tend to practice some pretty repugnant sh*t. My own ancestors worshipped an extremist religion that encouraged them to perform rape, torture, murder, theft, and virtual genocide in the name of God. Then they stuck churches right on the ravaged and conquered land. My Ancestors made Hitler look like a gentle lamb, and they carried out campaigns of terror that would make the most die-hard middle-eastern extremists weep with envy.

To this day, the churches of my ancestors stand mockingly on the land of the people they exterminated. While wholesale slaughter is no longer in vogue, the religion of my ancestors performs regular abuse and coverups of felonies, moving criminals to keep them safe from prosecution while positioning them into optimal locations to double-down on their crimes. In our enlightened era, the religion of my ancestors preaches intolerance towards homosexuals, and does not empower women with equality. They order their believers to shun safety implements that could prevent an increase of poverty and plague.

So I've come to expect religions to embody both the good and the vile evil of mankind. We still let people build churches.

The GOP does not support women's rights, nor gay rights. They never have. They are more in line with this Imam than they are with American values.

By the way, former Solicitor General Ted Olson, the man who won Dubya his Presidency in arguing the Bush v. Gore case before the Supreme Court, and a man who lost his wife on 9/11 when she was aboard the plane that went into the Pentagon? He's supports the community center being built just where it's planned.

Why won't anyone take HIS feelings into account?

It'd actually be pretty nice if, instead of sending out $400 checks to us every few years (or in addition to them), the government would send out to every citizen and resident alien a pocket Constitution which we could keep and have. I have my copies (yes, I have several copies of the Constitution) handy pretty much at all times.

This bothers me, and you know why ?

Cause it's the religious equivalent of Rosa Parks caving in on that infamous bus.

Maybe it's because other people were raised so drowned in it, that they do not see the christofaciscm all around them, that they do not realize america is quite intolerant, dripping with religious bias, and in some localities can come pretty damn close to the same level of viciousness.

Think of how much religious trapping for their murderous demongod I see every day, how much of their intolerant hate I hear, every day, from a religion that has very little respect for human rights, and unlike others of that stripe, has its dirty little claws sank deep into our entire society, culture and government.

But most people don't see it, they've become so inured to it that it escapes their very notice, from the bible on the desk of a judge, to religious laws that forbid the selling of alcoholic beverages or vehicles on sunday, the latter causing a rather notorious incident cause it was one of the few times I completely lost my cool about this kinda bullshit.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_law

That this is unconstitutional seems to bother no one but me, as our society seems to consider that document a mere suggestion to be obeyed at convenience until disregarding it impacts them personally in a negative fashion.

But from our "education" systems heavy bias in that direction, which I recall very strongly due to my taking offense at the Pledge of Allegience and learning elsewhere that our founding fathers were for the most part, diests...

To making the religion of a public figure an actual factor in the election, something which was a big issue with Kennedy, every step of the way in our society there it is, christianity, snapping at my ankles and growling like some rich ladys nasty little dog you don't dare kick.

And while we have at least the PRETENSE of seperation of church and state, the reality is something else again, when in order to *BE* elected to a public office, for the most part you HAVE to be part of that religion, which is a kind of backdoor, end-run around secularism, which everyone here is very well aware of, and nobody says much about it...

Or how bout our tax dollars going to support religious institutions, from education grants to religious schools to "faith-based" initiatives, very little of the latter going to actual aid - in one case I know of that became a two-fer-one, with the money going toward "abstinence education" with a heavy heaping of prosthelytizing directly included, not to mention direct funding of religious based Hellcamps.
http://www.christianpost.com/article/20100119/faith-based-funding-for-
teen-challenge-stirs-debate/index.html

((ETA: Make no mistake, that *IS* a Hellcamp, based on the same "drug-treatment" (codewords for being young and anti-authoritarian) regime as Straight, inc. - which was a Govt copy of Seed/Synanon.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straight,_Incorporated ))

Everywhere I look, the slimy tentacles of christianity are wrapped around the entire social, legal, and government infrastructure of this nation - their biases, their prejudices, their hatred and intolerance...

And yet, having at least the pretense, having the on-paper article of faith that there is a seperation, tends to hold down some of the more flagrant abuses - cause without it the christians would indeed be stoning adulterers, hanging "witches", and murdering doctors over birth control/abortion, hell, on any given day you can hear them bitch and fuss about not being able to get away with it anymore, here, now - in the 22nd century, and they still wanna crank it back to the 18th.

And these lunatics are the dominant force in every part of our society ?

What right have we to bitch about someone elses religious lunacy, especially since the last guy in the middle-east to even TRY to establish that same seperation, that at-least-on-paper pretense, was Saddam Hussien!

And look what we did to him, neh ?

And let's not even go there with our support of Israel despite their actions and attitude towards us, which has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with religion.

SOoooo...

Can we at least stop pretending this is anything but one hateful, intolerant religion angry at another hateful, intolerant religion muscling in on their territory ?

Cause that *IS* what this is about, that's ALL this is about, and ever was.

Hello,

Frem, you seem to be making the absurd assumption that things could be different.

Do you honestly think that if a Christian Coalition purchased a Burlington Coat Factory a couple blocks from ground zero, and built a community center with a chapel in it, that things would be any different? Do you really think that the problems here are specific to one religion over another?

Do you?

Oh.

Well...

Carry on.

I just love how the Left in America all of a sudden cares so much about freedom of religion! Since when did they ever give a rat's patoot about freedom of religion? They've been on a jihad of their own for years to remove and destroy anything to do with Christianity in America. This mosque iissue is all about sensitivity, not rights. The Progressive Left is totally disconnected with mainstream America, and they are just so used to taking the side that most Americans oppose, they've forgotten how to think and feel.

Hello,

I think that's an unfair assessment. I have noticed two distinct trends. 1) Freedom of Religion seems to be very important to the Left. 2) Separation of Church and State seems to be very important to the Left.

The Left certainly seems to dislike organized religion, but I've never seen them campaign against it.

Many people see item 2- the Separation of Church and State- and erroneously think that the Left is against Christianity.

From my perspective, it looks like they simply want Christianity removed from the clockwork of government institutions.

On a strict Constitutional perspective, this is the correct attitude to take. There should be no religion incorporated into the mechanisms or products of government.

The problem seems to be, from my perspective, that Christian articles of faith were so much a part of the daily lives and personalities of the people who made both the Federal and State governments, that they seeded all government practices and institutions with Christian elements as naturally as they exhaled carbon dioxide.
