Yup. And the NASM (Smithsonian) has the Enola Gay, which dropped the nuke on Hiroshima. They've got it fully restored now, and on display.

I've been in and through "Fifi", the old CAF's B-29, and the only flying example in the world. For about a grand, you can go up in her!

It would be a bargain at that price...I once stood in a line for nearly two hours to fly aboard Concorde from OSH into Canada and return.
Price was $750. But they ran out of seats to sell.

I've been aboard FiFi and had her all to myself. Went up the ladder in the nosegear well and sat in every crew station. I love that airplane.

I also got into Lockheed @ Ft. Worth and saw a B-36 under restoration. Interviewed a well-known LockMart test pilot for nearly an hour. Pima Air Museum has a restored 36 , but I don't know if it's the same one.
Recently NOVA re-aired an old doc about Lockheed's old test pilot Daryl Greenamyer trying to get a B-29 out of , and off , the ice in Greenland. I think it can be watched online.

O2B - I've got a pic I snapped from the freeway of that B-36 in Ft. Worth back in the 70s! Freaking thing is ENORMOUS. I'd wondered what ever happened to it.

When I was a kid, my dad worked weekends at the local Cessna dealership to help pay for his flight lessons. As luck would have it, Charlie Day's Aircraft Refinishing was just a few hangars down, and he got to know the guys down there pretty well. They did most of the paint work for the CAF at the time, so there was always a pretty steady supply of warbirds going through our little airport. Some weekends he'd take us out there with him, and if we were lucky, the guys would let us climb in and check out whatever they were working on at the time - P-51s, Corsairs, a couple P-39s and P-40s, a Hispano-Suiza version of the Messerschmitt ME-109, B-25s, B-17s, and even their B-24 and the B-29.

Heh, you missed the airshow up here this weekend past, it was pretty cool.

Being able to get oddball parts, have em machined, or whatnot, has gotten me more than one ride on the Yankee Lady, a B17G, and I got more or less outstanding dibs on the belly-ball gun as my seat, heh - although this weekend I forgot my freakin camera, I was kinda unhappy about that.
