Somehow I'm not surprised. Reminds me of the evolution talk I had with... who was that? Oh, antimason. He tried to start into the same crap 2 years after our original debate. I pulled up the old thread, and hey presto! Disappeared immediately.

Reminds me of a friend who taught at a college in the Bible Belt. She brought in a guest speaker about evolution and expected a lively debate from the god fearing crowd, but her students said nothing. She asked later why they hadn't challenged this guy, and here's the response: "Oh, it wouldn't do any good, he was too smart for us to argue with. Besides, we know we're right."

Do you think Out2wherever would get the irony in that?

The radars are an advanced development of the Australian designed Jindalee radar at Alice Springs which is in operational use as well as being a research and development facility used by DSTO for ongoing OTHR improvement.

JORN radars are capable of all weather detection of air and surface targets inside an arc of up to 3,000 km range extending from Geraldton in the west around to Cairns in the east. JORN makes a crucial contribution to broad area surveillance of Australia's strategically important northern approaches.

BTW the Bureau of Meteorology keeps its satellite pics for a couple of days. So it wouldn't have 'just disappeared'. Must be some big government conspiracy to cover something up.

The ethnic cleansing of white citizens is a continuation of the founding of Oz based on white slavery of prison settlements, and the continual ethnic cleansing of native Ozians.

To borrow a phrase from Book , " Ain't gonna happen !"

If there were such a thing as a cute , 'smart' drunk , they'd know when to stop digging and shut up...

But , they don't...

It begs the question , " If MalFormedPerson is such a frickin' smart 'geophysicist' , what are they doing 'teaching' 17-year-olds ,
instead of having a sweet gig with an oil company doing exploration to alleviate the 'energy crisis' ?"

Awaiting an authentic , 'scientifically valid' response...

Probably the same reason why my professors in college were teaching dumb twenty year olds who kept falling asleep in class (Hiya!).

It's been too long since I even looked at wave propagation, and I'm sleepy right now. Funny how things don't change.

Can't do much more than shrug here. Maybe later when brain is working good, I'll come back and try to make sense of this argument and take a position.

What a mixed bag you have presented in support of your looney theories.

The first link is a general google one on "Australia ethnic cleansing" which contains a hotch potch of references where the words have been connected. None of them contain links to ethnic cleansing of the white population, whichhas never and does not happen.

It does link to a number of Australian government policies on the treatment of Aboriginal peoples, which in the past have indeed added up to what anounts to be ethnic cleansing. That is our grave stain to bear and atone.

The second link about the real life Crocodile Dundee (apart from the looney conspiracy sights) desribes the death of a man in a shoot out with police, after he had shot a police officer.

Quote:

The real Crocodile Dundee lay dead on an Australian outback road yesterday after a police bullet ended a rampage which turned a celluloid legend into a murderer.

Rod Ansell shot dead a police officer and was killed in return fire after injuring two men in a two-day shooting spree that gave a gruesome twist to his reputation as the wild man of the bush.

The third describes how Australian farmers are suffering from the affects of long term drought and being forced to leave their land, which can no longer support them. That is true.

And your point was?

I'm still waiting to levitate into the air under some centrifugal force hovering over our country.

Out2whoknowswhere: You do make it seem that you can't carry on a rational conversation. I've seen enough of your posts on this site that I'm not surprised to see you turning to silly insults. Hey - isn't that what insecure people tend to do when they they can't back up their boasts? Change the subject and attack?

Quote:

It begs the question , " If MalFormedPerson is such a frickin' smart 'geophysicist' , what are they doing 'teaching' 17-year-olds ,

I did work in oil for a while, and I didn't like it. Which worked out fine, since funding for basic research in oil recovery dried up (total accidental pun) during the Bush administration. The oil companies were making plenty simply by having that administration in place. No need to waste those $140/barrel profits on research. (BTW - back in 98 when oil hit $12 they were in a panic because they budgeted for $22. Just think how much fucking profit they've been pulling in the last few years...)

So the big oil companies cut their research groups and now contract with service companies such as Halliburton or Schlumberger for "science-y" tasks. I did have a job offer from Schlumberger right out of grad school, but I didn't take it. It was a complicated time in my life, but basically it came to this: I didn't want to do that kind of science. (Mostly enhanced oil recovery - how to get more oil of a reservoir.)

My last research job was actually defense based - using earthquake data to help with detecting underground nuclear explosions. The science there is more of what interests me, even if the bureaucracy behind a government contract, and the politics with our overseas partners, was a bit crazy at times.

I also had a contract with a smaller service company doing wave modeling work for a logging tool they were developing, but I can't tell you the details on that. Proprietary.

Anyway, I left research because 1: Making as much $$ as possible had never been a big priority for me. I think I can make enough to be comfortable in just about any career I choose, and that's all I need. 2: the oil jobs tend to be Texas and I didn't like living there 3: Oil company science is all about maximizing profit, and I didn't find the research satisfying 4: The 17 year olds I teach now are bright, motivated, interesting, conversant, and I enjoy working with them 5: part of my work day now involves coaching sports or working with kids in areas outside science, and I like the diversity 6: I have approximately 16 weeks a year of vacation in which to travel and pursue hobbies I love.

Incidentally, I make more money now than I did in my last research job. That certainly wasn't the reason I changed careers, but I think makes plenty of sense. I love what I do now, so I'm good at it, and that's been recognized.

Of course there's no such thing as weather wars...

This is a reporting on American climate change debate by an Australian polemicist who is a right winged weather skeptic and has nothing to do with Australia what so ever.

I quote:

Quote:

The American Meteorological Society (AMS) survey was limited to television weather forecasters who are also meteorologists. A prior survey of all television weather forecasters--including ones without meteorological training--produced a heavy percentage of skeptics. The new survey was designed to determine whether the meteorologists held the same opinion as the broader group of all television weather forecasters.

The survey was conducted by the congressionally funded National Environmental Education Foundation and vetted by an advisory board of climate experts from groups such as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Weather Service, and Pew Center for Global Climate Change.

The AMS study found:

Only 24 percent of the survey respondents agree with United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) assertion, Most of the warming since 1950 is very likely human-induced.

Only 19 percent agree with the claim, Global climate models are reliable in their projection for a warming of the planet.

Only 19 percent agree with the assertion, Global climate models are reliable in their projections for precipitation and drought.

Only 45 percent disagree with Weather Channel cofounder John Colemans strongly worded statement, Global warming is a scam.

Firstly we are talking about tv weathermen for a start - how many are watching their allegiance to their audiences if they are filled with ignorant global skeptic who also probably are anti evolution, anti science, extreme righties themselves.

Secondly, how wishy washy is this survey. Are global climate models reliable? If you don't believe they are 100% reliable then you say no. Doesn't mean you don't believe in climate change.
If you read the actual survey that is pretty much what is suggested, it doesn't indicate that half the meteorologists on tv are climate change skeptics.

Regardless, this is a survey of opinions, not facts. It proves nothing except how easily misinformation and the misconstruing of information can happen over the Net.

Yes, we ARE eagerly awaiting your "authentic, scientifically valid" response. I don't expect that will ever be forthcoming, though, as you have no basis in reality, much less in science.
