Yep, PN's got it here. We've got to make something that can take on the Republicans and Democrats on a national stage. Hope this defeats the insane healthcare bill, but it might not. To really win the fight against government corruption, we need a plan B.

REB-Publican ?

I like that , and I think Mr. Brown would be flattered !

Maybe Folk would like to see more REB-Publicans !
Kinda confirms an Independent streak , don'tcha think ?

Good catch! Don't you WISH there were more Republicans with an independent streak? More Democrats, too. It'd be a start.

Sadly, ain't gonna happen. The other kids on the playground (Congress) just won't play that way.

MAL4PREZ

I've been reading all these articles and blogs saying that if this health care reform bill doesn't pass we'll have nothing for decades and decades. Not even a chance. So we'll sink into a mire of expensive insurance and higher costs and tons of people will have no coverage and on and on with the other well-documented evils of the status quo. So we absolutely MUST get the present bill through! No matter if it's not perfect - grab it and RUN!

What the hell? Really, I feel much like I did when W's folk were waving their arms and yelling about mushroom clouds. It's ridiculous.

I no longer have any faith in our government. It's not govt, it's an arm of the stock market. The main thing that got me on Obama's side was how he said he'd have no lobbyists on his campaign. That's the real danger to the "American way of life" - not the evil Muslims or whatnot. It's big business running every damned thing.

But I guess OBama wasn't too serious about that.

My comfort is, soon we'll have an updated FFF site and I'll be able to put Wulf on my ignore list. I won't have to waste time scrolling past his nuttiness. (Or all the replies to it... you folks really think he can hear you?)

from a German perspective...

if he didn't have all the inherited problems

How Obama would look at the end of year one

http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/0,1518,673062,00.html

Barack Obama has spent his first year in office fighting one crisis after another. Now he faces a political crisis of his own -- the defeat in Massachusetts threatens his health care reform, his most important domestic project. Is it a case of the best US president at the worst time?

continues

I think he should rethink the people around him, dump some advisors and bring in some people from far outside government.

Outside the box time

But since that will never happen, I expect more of the same

HKCAVALIER

Ya know, I've given Obama a lot of benefit of the doubt, based on my reading his books and what all and seeing that the guy is extremely smart and, so I thought, pretty tuned in. But now I'm kinda stumped.

COULD

HE

NOT

SEE

THIS

COMING???

What is wrong with these people? You might think he was AT LEAST as tuned in to this crap as we are, no? At least as tuned in as I am, for sure! Seems he NEVER was running this healthcare reform thing. Seemed reading the news this year there was a lot of room for Obama to be working behind the scenes à la my friend Joe Biden and gettin' this done, but now, it seems quite, quite clear that he was doing no such damn thing and he's lost it. If you play rope-a-dope, but you never stop playing rope-a-dope, you just lose.

What was he thinking? Even if he's the cynical fool y'all pegged him for, sucking up to Big Pharma and the Insurance Co's, what's he got NOW? What a freakin' waste of everyone's g.d. time! What folly! Epic phale.

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Wow, this one got a lot of attention since I left! Yoiks! Luckily I’ll bet most everyone covered the salient points for me again. Okay:

Don’t worry about wulf, JS, we know how nuts he is and don’t take him seriously, nor do we think he represents anything like a thinking conservative...actually, he’s a good representation of those nutjobs at the tea party gatherings, which we don’t consider conservative or republican, either

Wulf, I’m sad for you. As others are trying to point out, you’re seeing one vote as much bigger than it is, and crowing over something that really only deserves a smile at best and is actually bad for the COUNTRY. And that’s not because I’m trying to minimize it; I do think losing the magic 60-vote “Super majority” bodes ill for the country. With their determination to fight anything and everything, the Repubs will essentially grind our government to a halt, I think. That’s not a good thing for any of us, you included. It’s a world of greys, Wulf, not just black and white, which is what you seem to be stuck in. Open up your world, let the colors and shadings in, and you’ll get a better view of it. I promise.

Otherwise, if coming here brings out the worst in you, why do you come? Nobody does anything that does't give them SOME pleasure. I can suggest another Firefly fan site where you’d fit RIGHT in, and could be as ugly and nasty and violent about the things you espouse as you want.

I guessed after talking to you for a while that you don’t want to open your world, you just want to rant at everyone else’s. You keep proving me right. I don’t think you’re stupid, just close minded. Others obviously get something out of firing back at you, so you end up giving numerous people pleasure...not your intent, I'm pretty sure.

As to OTB, not even worth addressing.
Quote:

poll after poll shows that the majority want something that works for them, NOT for the insurance companies. A smaller portion is adamantly opposed to ANY form of governemt healthcare. Senate Dems thought they could play footsie, play it safe, and stick to the middle on this issue. Didn't anyne ever tell them the only things in the middle of the road are a yellow line and dead armadillos?
Excellent, Sig—I like the armadillo, too!

Pizmo, that's about what I think:
Quote:

what an absolute ream job. The agents practically laugh about it, "Yeah, it's crazy isn't it?! Wanna ya gonna do... {subtext][unsubtle] You're screwed Jacko! Just write the f*cking check!"[/]

What they did? Health Care - Mandatory? No Public option? - didn't even listen to us. "Us" being the people that put them in office and just the general citizenry. It can be said of that about both sides, as if we were disturbing them while they talk amongst themselves. Flush the lot of them, this Dem is a good start, and keep flushing. keepflushing.com

Obama - come on dude, time to bring it. He had a prime opportunity to be a Leader with Health Care and it's as if he just delegated and deferred everything and stepped back into the shadows. I know he's capable of a lot more.

We differ in that I think Brown is a whole lot worse than most of what we have, but that will show itself in time, if he ever even does anything to bring attention to himself. The only reason he's getting attention NOW is the situation. He’s a NUMBER, not a person, at this point. But yes, Obama blew it big time; personally I think he was so bent on that “bipartisan” shit, he let himself and Congress get backed into a corner from which there was no escaping.

A lot of the rest of this is just snarking back and forth…what a waste! Sig, thanks for bringing it back to topic. And Gino, too. Gino, I agree there was more to it than the pundits are saying, but my choice is:

1. Bad campaign by Coakley and dems, complacency.
2. Mass. having their own healthcare.
3. No public option, yet a mandate.
4. A “message” to Congress (which I think is particularly stupid)
5. Brown making himself look moderate and hiding just how conservative he is.
6. Frustration with all the things wrong right now.
7. Apathy.

Rue:

complacent people, who would generally be the ones opting for the status quo, tend to not show up. It's usually the people with a particular ax to grind that make the effort.
Yup. We did see it here in CA--they vastly underestimated the Prop 8 people, and it’s true in every election. It’s why the huge turnout when Obama was elected, too. It’s the way of man, at least here in the states.

Right on. I don’t believe it, either. Fear is what all politicians attempt to use on every issue they think it might work.

EXCELLENT! Not that it will happen, or that I think he’s anywhere near the “best”, but the concept is accurate, as far as I’m concerned.

Well said, right on the money, and yes, I don’t get it either. You’d think after the first few months of the Repubs being the party of no and mucking up the healthcare bill, saying it would be his Waterloo, all the while being up front that they wouldn’t vote for it no matter what, that he’d have caught on. I can’t figure it out, unless he’s so stubborn there’s no hope. Bipartisanship isn’t going to happen. Period.

I don't think voting back and forth would do any good. It takes a couple of years each time to do it, and a lot of novices could well be worse than what we have now. Besides, if everyone did that, it would mean Republicans get vast majority, then Dems do, back and forth. I don't see it working.

Whew. Caught up. But I'm wondering; why did nobody respond to my question as to whether anyone really KNOWS anything about Brown? I don't think anyone really does...

Niki: How do you think Brown won? BECAUSE nobody really knows much about him, that's how! That's not generally a good sign in a candidate, from what I've seen.

I did catch a little snippet of a coversation with him yesterday morning, though, in which he may give pause to those who supported him and those here who are celebrating his impending killing of health care reform.

He was saying that he DOES believe we need a basic health plan that covers every citizen, that that's something we should be working on, and that he's looking forward to helping bring it about.

'Course, it should also be noted that people in Massachusetts don't seem too eager to give back their healthcare plan. It's been mentioned that the reason he won was that he was seen as being against the national plan because it's not nearly as robust as what Massachusetts already has in place, and that it would be a step backward for them!

When all is said and done, Reps and Dems are both Alliance. Government should be kept on the local level and out of people's lives as much as possible. But I guess its our fault really. We live our lives in such a way that calls for bigger government.
