Ahmadinejad: US Hikers Must Be Punished

Iran's President: American Hikers Need To Be Punished
Saturday, 19 September 2009

http://iran.whyweprotest.net/news-current-events/47646-ahmadinejad-us-
hikers-must-punished.html

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (file photo)Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the three American hikers imprisoned in Iran broke the law by crossing the Iranian border and need to be punished.

In an interview in Tehran with NBC, a U.S.television network, Mr. Ahmadinejad said he sympathizes with the families of the three hikers.

But he said he would only consider releasing the hikers if Iranians held in U.S. prisons are also freed.

It was not exactly clear which Iranians he was referring to. Five Iranian officials detained for more than two years at a U.S. prison in Iraq were released two months ago as part of a U.S.-Iraq security deal.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

I'm still confused. Is it your position that if the situations were reversed, and three "innocent" Iranian hikers just happened to wander into the U.S. without any papers or any credible reason for being here, that we should simply let them be on their way, because there's almost no chance they're up to anything nefarious?

Or is that a standard you're applying to Iran, but not to anyone else?

Enlighten me, if you please.

Hell, the Americans held five Iranian diplomats contrary to international conventions, contrary to the wishes of the host country in which they were grabbed and held in ( Iraq )

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/US_raid_on_the_Iranian_Liaison_Office_in_
Arbil

they were held for over 2 years for doing their jobs with the consent of the country they were in

no trespassing, no illegal border crossing, etc

Mind you, I think it is still safer to cross the Iran / Iraq border than it would be to cross the US / Mexico border

http://www.eastcountymagazine.org/0809borderangels

Before construction of the border wall began in 1994 as part of Operation Gatekeeper, one or two people died each month attempting to cross into the U.S. To date, only about 100 miles of the proposed 2,000 border wall have been built.

" Since construction began, Morones estimates, the death rate has climbed 15- to 30-fold. Two immigrants each day are now dying, he said—a total of 10,000 nationwide since construction of the wall began, more than three times as many deaths than occurred in the 9-11 terrorist attacks.

“They are forced to cross in harsher areas,” he said of the ill-fated immigrants. “It’s inhumane. The U.S. preaches human rights.” "

I wonder. If you believe that the Iranians are so peaceful and evolved, and the American government is so evil, shouldn't the civilized, peace loving, Iranians release those liberal-loving American Hikers? I mean, some of those Americans that were captured went to UC Brekeley, the American opposition to the government, for Liberalism's sake.

Kiss my a**, Geeze. When I was five, I put my hand too close to a lawnmower. Guess what? I lost (small) parts of two fingers. ADULTS that can decide to pay airfare & hike NAKED deserve LESS sympathy.
In my NOT so humble opinion, of course.

Eh Chris,IsAll .... that's just Slick putting words in people's mouths, yet again.

You know, b/c getting the passports, paying the airfare, flying thousands of miles and hiking NAKED into Iran was just a little innocent inadvertent mistake ANYONE could make. Or so Slick would like to argue.

I think Ahmadinejad is playing this one smart...

these idiots will have a trial, get six months, then serve two weeks and he will commute there sentences and he will be both the law and order tough guy and the compassionate voice of reason...

In the opinions of folk who live over there, he doesn't give a crap about the opinions of Americans... which is why the neocons hate him.

Pretty similar situation to the lost British sailboat Geez was going on about a while back...

he cut them loose pretty quick after the investigation too.

US would have both partys in Gitmo without ANY legal process, and likely without anyone even knowing there were there.

So then the guys who were stupid enough to be hanging out in Al Queda areas, get captured, and end up in Gitmo deserved it too? Governments that are stupid enough to brag about their weapons of mass destruction and promise the "mother of all battles" if attacked deserve to be overthrown?

Standard Geezer Response # 1, as expected. Only took you a little over three months to think that one up, too.

Can you please show me where I've ever said that "the Iranians are so peaceful and evolved", or that "the American government is so evil"? Or are you just making shit up, as usual?

You seem to have a misguided belief that ONLY America is peaceful and evolved, and every other nation is backwards, savage, and relies on our divine guidance to show them the light and the word. My position is that Iran is likely a nation with a population that's as human as anywhere else, and a government that tries to do some good and probably does some bad at the same time.

I understand you can't wrap your little mind around such a concept, but things really don't have to be all black and all white. It's okay to admit that there are shades of grey.

By the way, where do you get the idea that UC Berkeley is "the American opposition to the government"? Is that an official position that the university has taken, or is that what Rush told you their position is? 'Cause, once again, it sounds like you're just making shit up, pulling it out your ass, and passing it off as "fact".

I know you're not real bright, Geeze, and not good with words and reading what people actually WRITE - you much prefer to just infer what you will and put words into the mouths of others - but you'll notice that I said "You SEEM to..." in that statement. I didn't say it's what you believe; I said it's what you SEEM to believe, based on everything I've ever read from you.

I don't know what your opinions and beliefs are. I only know what they seem like. :)

Again, reading comprehension is essential, Geeze. From MY point of view, I took a chance & lost. I paid a price. I was not intending to "justify" potential evil parental reaction to accidents, nor the Bush Administration's brutal & borderline psychotic mistreatment of potential enemy combatants.
K?

By the way, Geeze, for all your talk of others sniping and taking positions, can you show me where you've taken a position on anything? All you do here is snipe, then snipe about others sniping, all while never taking any position yourself, just bitching about the positions of others.

I'm tempted to say you SEEM like an asshole, but that wouldn't be very civil... ;)

Close-to-home example of what I'm talking about:
Woman gets mugged in a dark alley way (She should have known it was a dangerous area); the woman pulls out a gun & shoots & kills the mugger (he should have realized that his source of income carried with it certain risks).
