It's a great trick. Freedomworks and the Tea Party folks managed to change the numbers HUGELY, and it's all over the internet by now. If anyone wondered about whether these groups are "just folk", all they have to do is look at all their estimates of the march, how they came to them, the propaganda they spread about the numbers, and how they cutely managed to get the highest figures to be repeated all over the internet. Anyone still wondering: Open your eyes!!!

This on the Freedomworks website:
Quote:

President Obama drew 15,000 people to hear him pitch his health care overhaul in Minnesota this past Saturday. Meanwhile back in Washington, we had that many people waiting in line at the port-a-potties at the Taxpayer March on Washington because we woefully underestimated how many people would travel across the country to bring their message of limited government and fiscal responsibility to DC.

We’re trying to figure out exactly how many people were here so we can release a reliable number. If we had 1.5 million, we had 100 times the president’s turnout. If we had 750,000, we had 50 times as many, and if we had 300,000, we still had 20 people for every one he had. Any of those numbers puts the Taxpayer March on Washington among the biggest ever in DC, and certainly the biggest showing by fiscal conservatives. But the specific number is not important. We thought the sound system we got to reach 100,000 would have been enough. Most of the people in attendance couldn’t hear the speakers. We thought the permits for park space for 100,000 would be enough. It wasn’t nearly enough. And don’t even get me started on the port-a-potties.

http://www.freedomworks.org/blog/max/how-many-people-came-to-912-taxpa
yer-march-on-wash

You betcha the specific number is not important. In other places they are claiming ONE MILLION--according to the Washington, DC fire department, it was between 60,000 and 70,000.

Nicely worded, don'tcha think? How many of their poor, ignorant followers do you think bought it was at least 300,000 and MAYBE EVEN A MILLION!!! In reality it's not even SLIGHTLY "among the biggest ever in DC", tho' probably "the biggest showing by fiscal conservatives". They're trying to compare what they bill as a gigantic march on Washington to a speech Obama gave in Minnesota. ??? And they ended up getting 60-70 thousand, four times as many as Obama drew to a small meeting. Duhhhh...

They really built it up. In the article, they claimed "Democratic offices in Congress warned that as many as 2 million protestors may come to town". The article linked to actually says
Quote:

based off of news reports and comments from leaders in the Tea Party movement, it looks like Saturday’s event is going to be a huge gathering, estimates ranging from hundreds of thousands to 2 million people.
Notice who the estimate was based on...

Michelle Malkin's website has in huge letters: "Celebrating the 9/12 Rallies; Turnout Estimated at 2 Million"...but it's full of propaganda text about tea parties, and waaaay down at the very bottom someone tweeted
Quote:

"12:34pm Eastern: Police estimate 1.2 million in attendance. ABC News reporting crowd at 2 million — tweets Tabitha Hale from D.C." Update: Tabitha Hale says Parks & Rec estimated 1.2 million.
Writes Malkin:
Quote:

An ABC News correspondent says it wasn’t national ABC News network that reported 2 million figure. I take them at their word — and am checking to find out more info.
Malkin follows that with
Quote:

“When left-wing activists make crowd estimates, the algorithm is: Six figures = one million.” Safe to say, by liberal math standards, today’s turnout rivaled the “Million Man March” and the “Million Mom March” for sure.
Later on, down at the VERY bottom, is a box:
Quote:

Conservative activists, who organized a march on the U.S. Capitol today in protest of the Obama administration’s health care agenda and government spending, erroneously attributed reports on the size of the crowds to ABC News.

Matt Kibbe, president of FreedomWorks, the group that organized the event, said on stage at the rally that ABC News was reporting that 1 million to 1.5 million people were in attendance.

At no time did ABC News, or its affiliates, report a number anywhere near as large. ABCNews.com reported an approximate figure of 60,000 to 70,000 protesters, attributed to the Washington, D.C., fire department. In its reports, ABC News Radio described the crowd as “tens of thousands.”

Brendan Steinhauser, spokesman for FreedomWorks, said he did not know why Kibbe cited ABC News as a source. As a result of Kibbe’s erroneous attribution, several bloggers and commenters repeated the misinformation.

http://michellemalkin.com/2009/09/12/celebrating-the-912-rallies/

You bedda BELIEVE bloggers and commenters repeated the information--that was the IDEA, and how many poor fools do you think bought it??

Meanwhile,
Quote:

This morning on ABC’s Good Morning America, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) embraced the protesters at today’s 9/12 March in Washington, DC, saying that he was “glad they’re here to take back their country.” He characterized the attendees as nonpartisan, adding that “it’s not about President Obama. It’s not about the Democrats.”
...which is downright silly, as we all know by now. Some of the stuff seen there:

But hey, “it’s not about President Obama. It’s not about the Democrats.” Nor is it about racism, no sirree, not at all...

As to the size of the rally, someone responded to the "million" estimate by posting
Quote:

My nephew is at this gig, (poor child, he’s been led astray) and he talked to a Park Ranger who compiles the crowd estimates–30,000 tops. Look at it this way, if one person occupies 4 square feet (2′x2′) then a crowd 3600 feet long by 36′ feet wide is 10,000 people. Nowhere have any street cams shown a crowd over a mile long. The pictures plainly show each person taking up more than four square feet, each respecting each others space. An aerial shot does not show the crowd going much beyond the Washington Memorial–a distance considerably less than 3600 fee though the Mall is wider, with a huge reflecting pool taking about 40% of the space between the Washington monument and the where the stage is. 2 million people? Absolutely no way. 30,000 is pushing it. My nephew says the Chicago Marathon has crowds bigger than this rally.

When are their poor, deluded pawns gonna wake up--or will they ever???

That'd have more impact if you didn't know Malkin was a paid shill who admitted to taking money from the Bush administration to write "favorable" editorials for them.

And then made that really sudden radical 180 turnaround for a while when it was obvious that house of cards was crumbling.

And now this...

Believe me, if I gave that chick enough $$$, she'd editorialize PN as a bastion of modern journalism.

So I'd be takin HER opinion with a grain of salt no matter what she's sayin, just so ya know.

You missed my point, Frem. Of COURSE Malkin is a raving piss-ass who will lie through her teeth, she's famous for it...it's how successful they were in getting the idea that a million people showed up for 9/12 spread all over the internet, when it was only 60,000-70,000. A well-placed lie here, a turn of phrase there, and I have no doubt whatsoever that there are those out there who firmly believe a million or two marched on Washington last Saturday, and will defend that belief to their dying day, POSITIVE the "liberal media" or some other insidious force is lying to them that it was as few a it was.

It will also serve to reinforce their belief that there is an "army" of their fellow believers just ready to stand up and revolt with them; it feeds the flame...we don' need no more feeding of the flames.

It's the lies, the underhanded tactics, the fakery, and how effective I KNOW it's going to be, that sickens me. That they are quite happy to increase the reality by 930,000 people...and will get away with it, to their base--and maybe to some on the outer rim of the fringe who are still on the fence, who knows? Peer pressure is an amazing thing, and they know how to use it sooo well...

Just pisses me off, is all...

What you may find LESS obvious is that it's in no way JUST the "corporate news stations" that are doing it. It's the "grassroots" events like the Tea Parties as well, and the 9/12 movement, and the "anti-protests" that were supposed to "recreate '68" at the Democratic National Convention, and the town hall meetings - ALL of these are being orchestrated by right-wing think tanks and the moneyed elite, who are using YOU to protest in favor of YOUR "right" to keep giving them more and more of YOUR hard-earned money.

And every single time you think you've found an "objective" news site on the internet, start looking at who's behind it. Who did the web design, who's hosting it, who's supporting it? You'd be surprised, I guarantee it. Those "patriotic" names ("FreedomWorks", "Americans for Progress", and the like) are usually a harbinger of a hard-right PAC backing them, usually with behind-the-scenes slush funds, almost always hired by K Street lobbying firms who themselves have been hired on by the insurance industry, the pharmaceutical companies, and the for-profit healthcare industry.

Follow the money, and you'll see there's very little actual "news" being reported. Mostly it's all financial news, in one form or another.

You could tell from the pictures...it was more the 100,000 but certainly less then 200,000.

That does not count the other protests like the one in Texas that drew 20,000.

It may not be the largest protest staged in Washington, but its the largest protest ever staged by conservatives and its merely part of an ongoing nationwide effort.

I always look up links I find questionable, and almost invariably, right or left, they come from a website that is so obviously slanted it's a joke.

When I see a political ad, the easiest thing is to look at the bottom to see who's sponsoring it. Despite the names (and if I look them up, they betray themselves), you can usually find something like "Standard Oil" or some other organization that clearly says who's behind the ad. It's the simplest way.

I think the numbers matter greatly. As one person I heard on TV said; the anger is real, it may be orchestrated but it plays to the base. By making people think it's not only "real" but shared by a MILLION people, it gives it heft. He said "who knows, in a short time maybe even the MSM will be calling it 1 million". Speak a lie often enough, people think it's the truth. Works great for the propagandists.

Most reputable sources cite the number at 30,000 to 50,000, with a few going as high as 70,000, TOPS. Hardly the 1.8 million that Beck has claimed, or the 2 million that Rush cited. Of course, neither of them were actually there, so they wouldn't have the foggiest notion.

Oh, and "Hero"? I note that you're labeling this as a "conservative" protest. Are you willing to stand by that? Are these tea-baggers the conservatives with which you want to align yourself?

Here then, is a bridge to true understanding. A way for people to join together, and fight against those that are trying to divide us.

(Btw... is diversity such a good idea? Diversity wishes to divide, while unity brings us together.. We just need to know the right thing to unify together for. Always be cautious around people who preach diversity as a GOOD thing.)

I'm one of those people's preaching it. But, my thinking is, people naturally congregate into like groups. I think that's actually not a bad thing, I think what's bad is throwing everyone together and the conflict that results in. And even worse than that, is trying to make everyone The Same.

What does it hurt if folks on the Souix tribal reservation speak Lakota? No one. But in the 1950s, the powers that be didn't agree. You want to talk about Federal government where it has no right to be? Look no further than sending child protective services with false premises and tip-offs onto supposedly sovereign soil.

Diversity IS good, upbringing and culture make each of us who we are. Take that away, and we become unimportant, insignificant, worker drones.

I thought we went to Iraq because of oil as well, among other things, and actually agree somewhat with the No Blood for Oil movement. That doesn't mean I think our troops should be spit on when they finally come home.

See the "No Blood" part? I think that means blood of our soldiers as much as it does blood of civilians in Iraq.

Wulf, I think you were listening to some people who may have misinformed you about what that movement was about. They were drawing fallacious comparisons to Vietnam. You ever hear about anyone spitting on soldiers returning from Iraq? I haven't.

Let me ask YOU... Is everyone in ACORN evil? Do you want to do away with ACORN completely, because of the actions of a few? Or do you view those few as "bad apples"?

And if you DO want to do away with ACORN completely, then doesn't it stand to reason that you'd ALSO want to do away completely with the U.S. military, for the actions of some of ITS members?

Is EVERYONE who stands up against Obama a racist? No. But an awful lot of them are. They're usually pretty easy to spot, too:

That one was spotted at one of the town hall meetings, protesting against... well, one can guess.

Do I think the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan are evil? Certainly SOME of them are. Stands to reason, if you think a certain portion of humanity is "evil", then a certain portion of the military is "evil" as well. Probably a larger percentage, too, since military seems to attract a certain kind of murderer - er, I mean "patriot". Just like the cops do. You don't HAVE to be a sociopath to be a cop or a soldier, but enjoying the killing is certainly a plus!

I've asked an awful lot of times now, Wulfbaby - exactly what rights are these tea-baggers "preserving" of mine? List them, please. All I can see that they're preserving is my "right" to keep on paying more and more for less and less health coverage.

Wulf, you've made these same statements, and some like them, before. And they don't pertain to anyone here or anything I've read here.

Why do you do that? Is it to fire people up or something? It's been refuted in several threads I've read, and I haven't been here that long. I just find it strange. Personally, I don't know a single person who ever spat on a soldier; we protested the war because it was WRONG, and because we didn't want our soldiers dying and coming home wounded for life or mentally screwed up for some damned war which was wrong in the first place. That in no way makes the SOLDIERS someone for us to hate! Did you completely miss the concept of "No blood for oil"?

And I want to know, too;
Quote:

Make fun of the people who want to preserve your rights.
Precisely what right of mine are they trying to preserve? Certainly not "choice", nor the ability to get insurance if I have a pre-existing condition (which virtually EVERYONE over 50 has), not the right to have them decide they've paid enough and aren't going to pay anymore, nor the right to have my health insurance cancelled because it's not making them enough profit. So exactly WHICH rights?
Quote:

is everyone who stands up against Obama a racist?

This question, too, has been asked and answered for post after post in other threads. I'm really confused; why do you keep asking/saying the same things over and over? What is your point? It's very strange; like what we debated elsewhere just gets wiped out and you start over...?

Wulfie never gets that far in his thought processes. To his ilk (nod and a wink to Rue on that one, because she'll get the inside joke), ALL anti-war protesters are dirty hippies who should be shot as traitors. And the whole "No blood for oil" thing? Apparently he completely missed the "NO" part of that. No blood for oil means NO blood for oil. Not yours, not mine, not the U.S. soldiers', not the Iraqis', not ANYBODY'S blood.

Wulf tends to completely miss subtle little things like that.

DREAMTROVE

A lot of things sent us to Iraq, oil was a small one. More major ones were MEFTA and Israel. MEFTA is another supranational entity that is and has been part of the greater globalist plan. The key obstacle is Iran. The goal was to seek to catch Iran in a two front war.

I have to say the Irving Krisol's of the world are truly selflessly dedicated: A whole life to fill an agenda they will never see. If only they weren't so misguided.

MANGOLO

It is really interesting to me that this movement has appropriated the Silence=Consent from the AIDS/HIV activists.

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

"Silence is consent" was the part of the old British legal code. I THINK being able to plead the fifth - to not 'consent' to charges made against you by silence - was the US legal dodge around that precedent.

Silence is consent.

Silence is consent to waive your right to defend yourself in court, is what the judge pulled on me on Constitution Day 9/11/2009. The judge actually yelled my Miranda rights at me in court, which is the 5th Amendment right to STFU because everything I say WILL be used against me in a court of law. But it's all a trick to subvert my appeal against her, which might cost her her job if and when I win.

She threatened me with arrest if I opened my mouth, and I remained silent because I didn't want to go to jail for contempt of court, as judges like to do to lawyers here. Very clever of her, but it freaked out all the lawyers in the courtroom, are were pretty much pissing all over themselves. I always make judges mad, but I've never seen anything like that before, and I bet the lawyers haven't either.

If I fail to respond then there is no hope for winning my appeal, since there will be no evidence in the official court record. Which is why I'm finished with my 20-page affidavit to rebut all the false allegations against me, that I'll file with my appeals along with a transcript from a court reporter, and use for habeas corpus if I'm arrested.

Silence is consent if very real in all courts. I may sit down and shut up under threat and duress, but I'll never be silent or consent.

The Revolution is HERE...
