Not only does my ex have a passel of cats, I can throw cat-girl herding on the table here.

Allow me to explain a lil bit about Sci-Fi/Anime/Comic Book conventions...

Unattended children are a serious pain in the neck on both ends, not only as a liability/security issue for the hotel, but panic and worry factor on behalf of the parents, cause most hotels will assess a fine against your room charge if they find your bratling unsupervised or "improperly" supervised (as in parents are too ploshed to watch them) - as such, NOBODY likes the idea of kids running around without a minder.

And yet, chances are, due to the inevitable chaos and drinking, this issue is gonna crop up more than once over the course of a convention, so what to do about it ?

Well, give em standing orders to find the one guy everyone trusts (even if they hate him) to watch them, of course...

So by the end of most conventions I have a little train of bratlings like some demented version of the pied piper, and just adding to the screwball factor is that I am usually outfitted as either the grim reaper or a nazgul.

Little mungers KNOW I got pockets full of candy too, since I use hard candy to keep from gettin cottonmouth at work and they ain't shy about raiding my stash, neither - but that's the secret, don'tcha know, he who has the most candy... it's like moths to a flame, and a plastic scythe works just as well for a shepherds crook in a pinch.
