"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Quote:

Rush is to the Republicanism of the 2000s what Jesse Jackson was to the Democratic party in the 1980s. He plays an important role in our coalition, and of course he and his supporters have to be treated with respect. But he cannot be allowed to be the public face of the enterprise—and we have to find ways of assuring the public that he is just one Republican voice among many, and very far from the most important.

That was the most salient point of the article.

ETA: Correction: THIS is the most salient point of the article:

Quote:

...if you don't agree with Rush, quit calling yourself a conservative and get out of the Republican Party. There's the perfect culmination of the outlook Rush Limbaugh has taught his fans and followers: we want to transform the party of Lincoln, Eisenhower and Reagan into a party of unanimous dittoheads—and we don't care how much the party has to shrink to do it. That's not the language of politics. It's the language of a cult.

Does that sound like anyone in particular? Anyone from, say, around here?

Personally, I hope Rush pulls it off. He'll make the Republican party even less viable than it already is. They'll cease to even be a party within a decade if he's allowed to hijack their agenda, or at best they'll be a party with every bit as much legitimacy as today's Libertarian Party.

And maybe the Libertarians will take their place! Bring it!

Quote:

In 1988 George H.W. Bush beat Michael Dukakis among college graduates by 25 points. Nothing unusual there: Republicans have owned the college-graduate vote. But in 1992 Ross Perot led an exodus of the college-educated out of the GOP, and they never fully returned.

Hmmmm... Is he making this up? I've always heard that the "college elite" are all "left-wing loons" who vote Democrat? Could it be that that's just another one of those conservative myths?

I find it funny that those who don't give one flip about the GOP are suddenly so concerned about Rush and his influence on the party.

As for the college educated, there's a world of difference between those w/ a college degree and those who cater to the N.E. liberal, Ivory tower elitism that's so prevalent in the Democratic Party.

Classic Liberal mistake. Assuming those who don't share your view points feel inferior to you or even give a damn what you think.

I find it funny that those who don't give one flip about the "liberal elite" are suddenly so concerned about making sure we know exactly how much they don't care what we think.

Apparently, you DO give a damn what we think, or you wouldn't be trying to convince us that you don't.

It's so EASY to get a rise out of you. Its like teasing a gorilla that's in a cage. Anyway, I am no liberal. You keep calling me that, yet you have no evidence that this is what I am. You believe this only because I voted for Obama. It never occurred to you that I voted for Obama because at this point in time I believe that he is the BEST choice of a person to lead this ravaged country. I am actually a conservative, but you call me a liberal only because I don't believe in your steal-food-from-the-mouths-of-children ideology. Greedy, closed minded idiots like you should be put up against the wall.

RiveR, plead all you want, but you're a liberal. Per your prior comments, and that you admit voting for Obama, for you to claim that you're a conservative is clearly nothing more than a sad attempt at a jest. Nothing Obama stands for promotes any thing remotely close to conservative ideals. Point of fact, you're exactly the sort of Democrat that Penn Jillette was speaking of in the video posted earlier. (

)

Greedy? "Steal-food-from-their-mouths " ideology? Where in anything I've ever said leads you to suggest that has anything to do w/ my views ? Clearly, another futile trip down the road to ridiculousness, intent only on furthering your adversarial tone.

Just sad.

When AirAmerica attempted it's much ballyhoo'd venture into main stream talk radio, the Right pretty much ignored it. Sure, there were the usual comments at the " new kid on the block ", mainly because AirAmerica benefited from so much free advertisement by an adoring media.

But before too long, it became clear to anyone paying attention that AirAmerica wasn't worth fussing over, and it soon would , to use an often MISused Newt quote , " wither on the vine ".

But on the flip side, does the Left simply ignore Limbaugh? No, they do him a great service by talking him up more and more. The man's been doing this for 20 yrs, and doesn't need any more free publicity. But by all means, hammer away at him. He's only loving the increas in ratings.

Then what are you still whinging about? You should just say "thanks" and shut your pie-hole.

But know this: the commercials are already being readied and edited, in preparation for the next election cycle. There absolutely WILL be commercials featuring Rush bloviating about wanting America to fail, and cuts of "conservatives" lining up to lick his boots. See, we WANT you to keep on licking his boots and sucking up to him - we WANT Rush to be your poster child of what a "true" conservative is - because that makes the GOP so much easier to beat down. Again.

Obama really doesn't have to do much to be viewed as a "success"; I expect the Democrats to gain more House and Senate seats in 2010, and a win back a few governor's slots as well.

In 2 yrs, the public will likely have forgotten all about Rush's often misquoted remarks, just as they forgot about Harry Reid's " the war is lost " remarks or other comments by the likes of Dick Durbin or Jack Murtha. Yet Rush's speech, widely available, heard in context and in its entirety will do far more good for him and the GOP than the heavily edited bits the Left will try to use.

Got ya worried, huh?

Just commenting on his fall from grace, and how, if his popularity continues to drop at the current rate ( with folks like Warren Buffett now openly not pleased w/ how Obama is running things ) and all the " problems " he's having diplomatically, and filling out his appointment positions w/ folks who aren't criminals, then things could get real rocky for him and the Democrats before the midterm elections.

Hypebole to mention Obama might fall so far he'd be impeached ? Of course, but no more so than it was for folks to be singing his praises and anointing him the chosen one leadiing up to the Inauguration.

( I know you want to believe I meant something else, but that's a you problem, not mine. )

Actually I am a Conservative. I guess anyone who doesn't agree with your ill-thought out point of view is stamped a "Liberal" because you cannot think of anything else to say. I sort of see that as the same way I see an argument between a White man and a Black man. Both will be arguing point for point, but when the White man starts to lose the argument he calls the Black man the "N" word because he cannot think of anything else to say. This is what you do AURaptor, but fine, call me what you wish but it doesn't change the fact of what I am, and that's all that matters.

You're right Chrisisall, he has no idea what he's talking about. I suspect he's just parroting something he heard off of talk radio. To him it sounds really cool, and intelligent, but he never really stops to think what it all means. I said it before and I'll say it again. The point of WW2 was to defeat Hilter and Imperial Japan. ( Italy was pretty much just along for the ride, I think most would agree ) It was an unusual situation where Gov't was forced to expand and spend $$ in that manner. But after the war, there was no excuse to continue such emergency status spending. Only we did, and kept doing it for decades. That thought process has finally come to bite us in the end, and D.C. seems oblivious as to how to stop it.

A straight 8% across the board increase in spending ? Hell, when's the last time YOU got an 8% increase for failing to keep your check book in order ? We need a spending FREEZE, not an increase, to start solving our problems. But D.C. will ask US to tighten our belts while it goes on a spending orgy, to get us out of the spending orgy that got us in this mess in the 1st place.

Does that seem right to you ?

*Laughter*

What you're actually saying is that I haven't posted anything that confirms, or validates your warped beliefs, and understanding of conservatism. What you mean is that I'm not believing your delusional views regarding politics, and the direction that the United States is headed.

You non-thinking ditto-heads are going to destroy this country, and it amuses me, no wait...it saddens me that you cannot even begin to see this, but I could be wrong. Maybe you are just acting this way to have a bit of fun on the forums, but then again maybe you do believe the nonsense that you believe. Either way you are an idiot. What it seems to come down to is that I spit in your face at your warped, and delusional views. Admit it, you just don't like it when people don't believe what you believe.

This is sad. I suggest medication and a 12-Step Program.

I'm not the one promoting anyone be lined up and shot, or spitting in anyone's face for merely asking you to explain your views.

That's a YOU problem, and I just showed you to be the troll I knew you to be. Bravo.

That you can't civilly reply w/ an OUNCE of proof that you know one wit about what YOU believe in, is VERY telling. The best you have to offer those who don't share these imaginary conservative views of yours is to insult at attack them, just like Penn mentioned. How you don't get that, is truly amazing.

After reading all of your posts in this thread and others, it would be totally pointless for me to give a play by play, point for point view regarding my political beliefs since in the end you are incapable of seeing any other brand of conservatism as the conservatism you follow, and believe in. Based on your thinking your view is the only view.

There are many versions of conservatism in the United States just like there are many Christian denominations. For the religious aspect of it, they all believe in Jesus Christ, but there seems to be a different method in which all these denominations approach the worship of Jesus Christ and God, therefore we have all sorts of crazy, christian-based, religious groups to choose from. The same can be said for conservatism. There is not just one define-all stance, but many versions. You would love it if the good people of this forum believed that you support the healthy brand of conservatism, but you don't. You support the brand of conservatism that will eventually, in the long run give us a ruined economy, and a ruined people. Your brand of conservatism will eventually cause a 2nd Civil war in this country. The modern day conservatism that you support is built upon lies, hate, greed, and serious misinformation.

Based on all things things I've heard you say this is the type of conservative I KNOW you are:

AURaptor's political conservatism equals the resistance to change and a tolerance for inequality, and that some of the common psychological factors linked to political conservatism include:

1. Fear and aggression
2. Dogmatism and intolerance of ambiguity
3. Uncertainty avoidance
4. Need for cognitive closure
5. Terror management
6. Nation dividing

Most versions of conservatism are basically harmless, and actual have the interest of the nation as a whole in mind when followed, but Auraptor's version of political conservatism reinforced by idiots like Rush Limbaugh, and others will in the end ruin this nation.

The dodgy part about all of this is AURaptor is too stupid to see this, and as far as my political beliefs are concerned I'm doing just fine. Even though I would love to leave this country, I'm staying to keep evil like you at bay. My brand of conservatism does not include all that I have mentioned above. My brand of conservatism is all about people, and business because without those two, a nation is nothing.

Also, I don't have to explain anything to you. You clearly are an idiot. Don't you have a cross-burning you need to be at?

Of course, the same could be asked of you...

You've already stated quite plainly that you DON'T care - yet you've posted more in this thread than anyone else. Seems you DO care, huh?

Again, the same could be said of you. I've never seen you post ONE "conservative" thought - only Republican and Rush Limbaugh talking points. You're nothing but an empty ditto-head who should be shot.

Oh, sorry... was that too hyperbolic for you?

River remarked that maybe "someone shouldn't have come back from Iraq", but if that's a reference to AuLapdog, it's misplaced. Remember, Lappy is that prototypical Republican chickenhawk - the coward who cheerleads war at every turn, but will never, EVER sign up to go serve. In that, he takes after his idol, Dickless Dick Cheney.

Wassa matta, Lapdog? "Hyperbole" not one of your vocabulary words?

By the way, it's not pronounced "hyper-bowl". Just wanna clear that up before you make an even bigger ass out of yourself by trying to use big words in your everyday speech.
