It speaks for itself.

It is not those who use the term "Islamo-Fascism" who are sullying the name of Islam; it is the Islamo-Fascists. - Dennis Prager

A concern of the GOP is that the people aren't informed enough to understand their policies, while a fear of the Dems is that the people ARE.

That was extremely unedifying. I do not appreciate interviewers who do not allow their interviewees to answer the questions they ask.

You've got to be fucking kidding. The ACORN rep was evading and side stepping the entire issue, trying to make the BANKS the villains, and ignoring the basic concept that Mr Varney was trying to get across to her. That is exactly what journalist are SUPPOSE to do, not let the interviewee skip out on a direct question.

But you're fine w/ interviewees going on diatribes on questions they were never asked, while avoiding the questions which they WERE asked ?

Curious.

Journalists are supposed to badger, brow beat and scream at the interviewee if they don't get the answer they want? They're supposed to silence any answer that isn't part of a preconceived script for vilifying particular groups or people by talking through and over them?

I suppose you're right if you're talking about propaganda organs like fox news.

Jeremy Paxman can conduct an interview against people who don't want to answer those questions, but he manages to do it without sounding like a petulant teenager. That's because he's a half decent journalist, while that guy is a hack.

Guess not.

Where the HELL is the " propaganda" ?? Varney was right, dumb ass. There IS no right for folks who don't pay their bills to take $$ from tax payers so they can remain in homes they can't afford.

Would being nicer change a damn thing ? How do you NICELY keep a person on topic when they don't want to? This lady knows her group, ACORN, is well schooled in the art of intimidation themselves, so it's high time they get a dose of what they've been dishing out, for no other reason but for the sake of DECENCY!

Isn't this flipping of words and twisting of them EXACTLY what you just claimed (on another thread) was a tactic that "the Left" uses when they can't deal and won't debate?

That he can't deal with debate, and he's a hypocrite about it. Maybe that, taking a leaf out of the American far right play book, he's learnt that if you wrongfully attribute your actions to others, not only do no longer have to take responsibility for your actions, but you can harm your opponents while doing so. It's win-win baby.

All US televised news media show pretty poor journalism to one degree or the other. Fox News just happens to be the worst of the bunch. The guy was asking a loaded question, and he wanted a yes or no answer, so that he could basically push a propaganda position. Of course if you agree with that position, it's going to be harder to see because in your view he's just trying to up hold the truth. But he's still pushing an subjective opinion even in that case, which is just plain bad journalism (I brought up Paxman because he does these types of interviews really well, it's not a question of being 'nice', it's a question of good journalism vs bad journalism).

American televised media is pretty funny like that, it's all opinion all the time, which may be why Americans are flabbergasted by the BBC calling the Mumbai terrorists 'militants'. It's not siding with the terrorists, it's an attempt to set themselves as reporters of the news, rather than makers of it. Perhaps misguided at times, and they're not always unbiased, but at least they attempt it, which noses them over the American televised and most of it's printed media any day of the week.

Regardless. He's pushing an opinion. "Do you have a right?" is asking an opinion, and it's a question that deserves an opinionated answer, which is what she was giving. What she didn't do was give the loaded answer to his loaded question that he wanted. So when she didn't give the answer he needed to push it the way he wanted, he just shouted over her response until he could make her shut up.

You're damn right that's bad journalism. It's not just bad, it's shocking. He was trying to push his opinion, and that's always bad journalism, I don't care about his opinion, he's a chump who couldn't make it as an actor or a writer.

I think she has a point. The 'parallel track' that he wants to ignore (the bailout shuffle) establishes the rules of the game. The government is in the business of massive wealth redistribution. The only way to win is to make the most pathetic case. What ACORN is doing is not fundamentally different than what the banks or the car manufacturers are doing. It's basically just a huge taxpayer gangbang. ACORN is just fighting for it's place in line.

As are they all. Despite their "refusal" to take stimulus money, Bobby Jindal and several other southern governors are indeed taking the money, lining up with their cups out. Jindal tries to portray himself as being the one with integrity, turning down government handouts. Of $3.8 billion being offered to "Lousy-ana", he's turning down a massive.... $0.1 billion, or so I heard. In other words, he's perfectly willing to whore himself out for $3.7 billion, but he has to firmly put his foot down on that last bit, because he's got his dignity!

Pretty funny, actually. Look it up.

From my perspective, the only thing more disgusting than the Democrat's spending orgy, is the phony indignation of the Republican "opposition". How they can make small government arguments now and keep a straight face is beyond me. It's frustrating too, because we desperately need someone holding back the flood gates if we're going to save our nation. But over the last eight years, they've squandered any pretense at small government ideology. To pretend they care at this point is sickening.

There a few sincere voices, but those were the ones the mainstream Republicans laughed at in the primaries. Are you still laughing, AU?

There's no OPINION here, the correct answer is " no, there is no RIGHT for what ACORN is doing," and that's the point. That IS the story. You folks are so twisted over how to gently run an interview, and the fact that it happens to be on FOX, that you're overlooking ( likely intentionally ) the REAL story.

Color me not shocked, in the least.

They certainly have a point. I supported the idea of a bailout, but as you know not the implementation. It's just protected unscrupulous loan sharks from their actions, when it's purpose should have been to protect everyone else from their actions.

The homeowners who are set to loose their homes have, in my view, more of a right to keep them at tax payers expense, than the current crop of bankers do to keep their jobs and their inflated bonuses. The bailout insulating bankers from their own risks and incompetence, is front and center of this issue. One might say what right does a bank have to take the house from a tax payer who has just written them a massive check and technically owns a slice of their business? I'd say that's a pretty pertinent issue.

The fact that this opinionated propaganda hack merely wants to silence any issue outside of the made up propaganda that "it's all ACRONs fault" or some such, is motion toward another issue:
Fox News is a mindless partisan propaganda organ, with the journalistic integrity of Soviet era Pravda.

What the banks do or don't do is 100% besides the point. Saying someone else gets off easy doesn't mean you get to as well.

ACORN has no case. They're wrong, and Stewart Varney is right.

I don't get it--the video was about Justice Stevens...?

Aside from which, I only have one thing to add: Chris Matthews definitely speaks over his interviewees, its one of the things I hate about him and causes me to switch channels.

Olbermann, however, does NOT speak over his interviewees, that I've ever seen. Please show proof, if you want to retain that opinion.
