Unbelievable: Obama appointee withdraws because of … tax problemposted at 11:21 am on February 3, 2009 by Allahpundit

How many does this make? Geithner, Daschle, now Killefer — is that it? It feels like more, thanks to Rangel and, allegedly, Caroline. Almost makes me regret that Team Barry couldn’t push Princess through to the Senate so that we could dump that one on him, too.
Almost.

When her selection was announced by Obama on Jan. 7, The Associated Press disclosed that in 2005 the District of Columbia government had placed a lien on her home in the upscale Wesley Heights neighborhood. The local government alleged that just three years after she left a high-powered Treasury post she began to fail to pay unemployment compensation tax for a household employee. And she failed to make the required quarterly payments for a year and half, whereupon a lien for $946.69 was placed on her home.
During that period, Killefer and her husband, an economics professor, had a teenage son and daughter, but she had two nannies and a personal assistant to run her life when she was on the road, she told Harvard business students back then.

The job she was up for? “Chief Performance Officer.”
Follow the timeline here. Daschle knew he had a tax problem last June; Geithner knew he had a tax problem no later than November. Killefer’s problem dates to 2005. Point being, none of this came as any eleventh-hour surprise to Obama’s vetters … and yet all three were nominated anyway. Exit question: Why? Killefer is expendable but Geithner and Daschle are both crucial to The One’s plans; the former’s his economic quarterback and the latter’s his point man on universal health care. If you know you’re going to have this problem with both of them, why hand the media an irresistible narrative by trying to sneak Killefer in there too? Doesn’t this make Daschle’s nomination even more precarious?

It's better than having them slurped around George Bush's cock. You should take notes.

Don't worry Chris, he's just jealous. He has a thing for me, it's like when you're a kid and pull the pigtails of the girl you like. Hell I hear when AU had the fantasy about me, Bush and him in a three way he redecorated his bedroom white.

It's flattering AU, but I don't swing that way.

The exact prediction I'm referring to is about the rabidly pro-government members suddenly becoming rabidly anti-government the moment a Democrat gets in, thereby proving their unthinking partisanship. I was right on all counts, not only on what happened, but how funny I'd find it as well, in truth I'm laughing my arse off.

Seriously, folks, I'm interested in what you all think these appointees mean big picture or little picture. We could discuss how bad they would be/ are going to be, and if not that, why they're good selections despite the obvious problems. And similar.

I think a lot of the stuff coming out about Obama these days has to do with him opening the door to it in a way the Bush Admin. never, ever did. So it feels like a flood of imperfection verging on incompetence. But to paraphrase Rummy one last time, you can't always govern with the Washington you want, sometimes you have to govern with the Washington you have.

Bush had been bombing in the mountains of Pakistan for years now, but did we hear anything about it? Nope. THREE DAYS into an Obama presidency and it's all over the news. Transparency. When Bush tried to appoint someone that stank so bad the press and the congress had to say something, he just stonewalled and pushed all the harder. What does Obama do? He lets the controversy air itself out, listens to folks and deals with the consequences.

Are we ready for a warts and all presidency or do we still want a great big smiling bad-ass papa to make it all better? We better be ready for the warts and all, 'cause it's looking like Obama certainly is.

U.S. air strike in tribal area of Pakistan kills 9

Published: March 16, 2008

ISLAMABAD: Three bombs, apparently dropped Sunday by an American aircraft, killed nine people and wounded nine others in the tribal area of South Waziristan that provides sanctuary to Al Qaeda and the Taliban, a Pakistani security official said Sunday.

The strike, described as the third in less than three months by the United States at suspected terrorists, appeared to be part of a stepped up program by Washington to hit militants who are using the tribal area as a base to fight across the border against U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan.

Posted September 17, 2008
By authorizing U.S. strikes against terrorists and Taliban rebels in Pakistan, President Bush has firmly embraced the Obama Doctrine.

MQ-1 Predator
Pakistan
On 13 May 2005, Haitham al-Yemeni, an al Qaeda explosives expert from Yemen, was killed in a village in northwest Pakistan near the Afghanistan border by a CIA-operated MQ-1 Predator aircraft firing a Hellfire missile.[23]
On 3 December 2005, a US Predator UAV reportedly killed high-level Al Qaeda member Chief Abu Hamza Rabia in his sleep in Haisori, Pakistan. Four others were also killed.[24]
On 13 January 2006, several US Predators conducted an airstrike on Damadola village in Pakistan where al Qaeda's second-in-command Ayman al-Zawahiri was reportedly located. CIA Predators reportedly fired 10 missiles killing 18 civilians, including five women and five children. According to Pakistani authorities, the U.S. strike was based on faulty intelligence and al-Zawahiri was not present in the village. Pakistani officials nevertheless claimed that Midhat Mursi (Abu Khabab al-Masri) — al Qaeda's master bomb maker and chemical weapons expert, Khalid Habib — the al Qaeda operations chief for Pakistan and Afghanistan, and Abdul Rehman al Magrabi — a senior operations commander for al Qaeda were all killed in the Damadola attack.[25][26] U.S. and Pakistani officials now say that none of those al Qaeda leaders perished in the strike and that only local villagers were killed.[27]
On 30 October 2006, the Bajaur airstrike was conducted, targeting an alleged militant training camp and targeting al Qaeda's second-in-command, Ayman al-Zawahiri. The strike hit a religious school where militants were believed to be present. Eyewitness reports said that two explosions were heard following a missile being fired from an MQ-1 Predator. Pakistani intelligence officials have told western media that Predators were used in the strike, which utilized Hellfire missiles. Although Zawahiri does not appear to have been caught in the strike, Pakistani officials have stated that between two and five senior al Qaeda fighters, including the mastermind of the airliners plot in the UK, were killed in the raid.[28] While some reports state that the school was a religious training center, Pakistani authorities, including President Musharraf, have stated that the school provided military training to al Qaeda militants. Casualty figures range from 80 to 85 people killed.[29]
On 29 January 2008 an MQ-1B killed Abu Laith al-Libi in Mir Ali.
Images published recently[when?] by the Pakistan Army shows that the USA delivered some MQ-1 Predators to Pakistan.[citation needed]

Collecting of facts so that maybe, one day you'll learn ?

It's the least I could do. But really, Half a dozen attacks in 4 years is hardly " bombing them for years " . As if we were taking aim weekly, or monthly. You're playing w/ semantics and not doing it very well, either.

Rap, since you're so good at math, perhaps you should go back and actually count the number of reported stikes inside Pakistan. You may need to take off your sock and shoes.

Prior to Spring of '08, I count 6 stirkes. 6 in 4 years. That's 1 every 8-10 months ? It's kinda hard to tell, of course, because of the way your cut/paste job runs everything together, and of course, the fact that some of those are unconfirmed attacks, so kindly take your arrogant, smarmy attitude and stick it in your exhaust port.

Then perhaps the problem is with your reading ? Read aloud if you need to.

Hey Rue...err.... Chris, fuck you to hell too, you brainless prick. The point trying to be made was that bombing Pakistan was routine, when in fact, it wasn't. Not by a long shot. And it totally escapes you fucking morons that Obama campaigned on a promise to NOT be such a " war monger" as W, but to try to talk out our differences w/ the Islamic terrorist. You know, so the world wouldn't hate us like they ( allegedly ) do ? 3 Days in, and he's doing EXACTLY THE SAME DAMN THING!

Hypocrite, I dub thee OBAMA! ( and you myrmidons who follow his CLUELESS , INEXPERIENCED ASS ! )

Oh, see, I thought your point was "... we rarely bombed Pakistani territory in Bush's 8 yrs. That's why it was hardly ever reporterd, because it hardly ever HAPPENED" and this "March , 2008. Just last spring, where as HK was saying we've been bombin' there for YEARS" (which, we had been, you might notice).

But what you REALLY mean to say, I guess, is that EXCEPT for AFTER it became routine under Bush, it NEVER was routine.

I...don't seem to recall him saying "I will not be such a war monger as President Bush."
Can you provide a link for that- you DO always back up your claims as you say, right?
In fact, I seem to remember in his campaign that he specifically stated that he'd allow pursuit & attack of terrorists into Pakistan if need be (The one part I vehemently disagreed with myself).

Oh, and you are a gutless bloody wonder, sir.
