So can anyone here honestly say the last four years have gone well for them?

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I mean... really?

Staying away from the past eight, since some people seem very quick to blame a supposed Clinton fallout and the actual chaos directly following 9/11 (I actually found it easier to find a job directly following 9/11 than I have recently, but more on that in just a bit)

The last four years.

How's that been going for ya?

Now me, I went from 20 - 24 in the last four years. Maybe not the most calm and stable of times in a life. I get that. But when I first started working, it took me less than two weeks to find a job. When I first started driving, around the same time, if I had a twenty I could fill my tank, guaranteed. Now? Now it takes anywhere from a month to three months for me to find a job, and those jobs have gotten shittier. Filling my tank, though it's gotten a little easier in the last week, still sucks a hefty chunk out of my limited bankroll. Not to mention buying food, repairing my car, putting off dental work because I have no insurance, I could go on. I've seen older and older people working the same shitty jobs I work, and a few people you would never expect to see on food stamps, single people who do in fact have jobs, have been getting help because they can't feed themselves and have any kind of home at the same time.

So. I know there are no magic bullets in the world. Really there's just elbow grease. Maybe a regime change won't even bring that. I firmly believe that it will, but that's not my point here, really.

My point is this:

The definition of insanity is repeating the same action, over and over, and expecting a different result.

So really, how's that been going for ya?

You may say I'm a dreamer. But I'm not the only one.

I've seen the workplace deteriorate myself...faith in this country has suffered, and the hunter mentality has surfaced a little more for it. The Repos have done far more damage to this country than 9-11 ever could have by itself, but then, that was the plan all along.

These last four years have been like trying to run in a swamp, IMO, and Obama can only lead the way to dry land.

I wonder why he's even on this site. Mal & co. would consider him an Alliance tool-
he's Dobson, pure & simple.
He only posts here to vex those of Independent spirit.

Up until a few weeks ago, the last 3 years and a few months have been fine, but when the Democrats and our soon to be "Grand Leader Obama" take over, everything will be PERFECT! Atleast that's how his whores in the press will make it out to be. So after the Republican blood bath we'll learn that everything is'nt as bad as we 1st thought, and the world NOW loves us, pardon me a moment......... I CAN"T GO ON!!!

The past four years for me have been a mixture of good and bad. The good being mostly that I've been going to college (and will hopefully finish my bachelor's within the next two years).

The bad has mostly been regarding finances. It seems like every year it's gotten harder to pay for things, to the point where I usually only leave the house when I absolutely have to. Gone are the days when I could go to the bookstore or a movie just for the hell of it. I have to weigh those decisions with whether or not I want to eat for the next week. I can rarely see my family, because they all live in different cities, and none of us have the money for gas.

I don't think a regime change will help a damn thing, because it's the system that's broken, not just the person in charge. I don't see this country getting any better in four years, eight, or twelve, because the system we were founded on doesn't work, and it never really has (at least not for those on the broke-as-fuck end of the spectrum).

I answered the question as asked. But for things beyond me, that which concerns my country as a whole, you asking me why I care is a different question.

Why do I care about who sits in the White House ? I want that person to reflect not just our values, but understand and promote our Constitution as well. On that issue, W has suffered, but not for the reasons some here like to spout. This nation's sovereignty ( Illegal immigration) and Rights to private property ( Kelo imminent domain case ) imo, have suffered during the last 4 yrs. There's more, but time restricts me to just that for now.

Values.
Such as making sure if a woman is raped she's driven further into the dirt by having to pay for the gathering of evidence and, in some circumstances, bear and birth a child conceived by force.
Such as making sure if someone happens to be attracted to the same sex as them, they should be ostracized and persecuted their entire lives.
Such as ignoring and disrespecting all religions that are not the religions of Abraham. Oh wait, some of those are ignored and disrespected as well. So ignoring and disrespecting anything that doesn't call itself Christian, making sure anyone with different beliefs have them pounded out in the public school system and, if necessary, the 'justice' system.
Such as bulldozing all the natural vegetation in the world until there's no air left to breathe.
Such as forcing our own systems and outlooks onto the rest of the world, and if they disagree we just say "Yeah, well, I've got a bigger gun."

Be careful the words you use. These are not "our" values.
And, I'm pretty sure, they do not reflect our Constitution. Created equal, pursuit of happiness and that.

You may say I'm a dreamer. But I'm not the only one.

If a crime is committed, the police, not the victim, gathers the evidence.

Same sex attractions are of no consequence to me, either way. They can live, work, vote, legally join , but I'd not call it marriage.

There's ignoring and then there's placating when it comes to religion. I'd rather we ignore all than placate to some, personally.

The past 4 years have been about the worst 4 years I've ever had. Up through the late 90's I was feeling really great. Through the last 4 years I've actually considered suicide because things were going so poorly. My life is going good currently with my job, and everything....but I still have many bad days. I always have this strong feeling of dread that stops me from feeling too good. Luckily I have really good friends, and they have been an enormous help to me.
What causes all this grief?
I don't know if it's the economy, the "mood" of our nation, or simply a personal longing for something that I should do but don't quite know what it is.
I want to feel like I used to. Before, obstacles were easily sidestepped, and my imagination was infinite. Now, for everything that goes right 2 more things go wrong. My imagination has been limited to budget my money for bills

Rose, I hope your right about change. I really, emphatically do.

Oppyh:

1) Part of it is age and maturation. Happens to us all, it seems...

2) If you're not sure what to do, just DO SOMETHING. It might not be the RIGHT thing, but I bet it could help point you there. Even if you do the WRONG thing, at least you'll know it's wrong afterwards, and know not to do that again.

Find something constructive to do, helping others who have it worse than you. Volunteer; help out at the animal shelter, VA hospital, homeless shelter, Red Cross, church group... it doesn't matter which, just pick one that speaks to you and your values, and help them. They need it, but more important than that (for you personally, at least) is that YOU need it. What you get from it far outstrips what you put into it.

You can tell yourself that you're doing it to help others, but in reality, it just might be your own life you're saving.

We can sit around on our asses "hoping" for change, or we can go out and BE the change.

Yeah, I just figured that out recently.
My folks have given me the idea time, and again that you aren't supposed to be happy with your job. Your supposed to hate it, but it's a paycheck.

I never understood that. Granted, I don't believe you should be blissfully happy when working either.
You shouldn't ever despise your workplace. After all, If I'm going to be doing something for the next 30 some years, I want to be comfortable with my position. Today's job market is down right scary. So much competition, and not enough jobs to go around. I'm glad I have a good paying job, but I'm not happy. That's going to change next year.

That's funny, because on another post you say that Obama will drive this country into 3rd world
backwater status. You seemed to care then. So which is it?

In the last 15 years I've been downsized from 2 companies. One that dissolved and one that was gobbled up by another firm (I'm a paralegal by trade).

Also, more and more I've been finding that young attorneys have been taking jobs as paralegals. The firms hire them, pay them slightly more than paralegal wage (and get an attorney to do the work) and the paralegals are out in the market looking to land whatever they could.

Sometimes they take on something that pays less, just to be able to survive. I once thought of moving to another state to get work in the field. I am now working as a clerk. It pays the bills and puts food on the table. I'm now looking into getting training to go into the medical field. Times change and we do what we can to make ends meet.

Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose.
