This will be important being the race will be close. It will either hurt or bring voters onto your party side. Lets be real if Obama makes it to November the first 90 days will have an attempt on his life. McCain might last a whole year before the stresses of the office puts him down. I see McCain picking Romney. Barrack H Obama needs someone towards the middle. Hillary not needed with Mitchell, Edwards will hurt him, and it has to be a white man over 50 ex military I'm thinking.

What Obama really needs is an LBJ. Since he's seen as a northern, "eastern" (although I don't know how they get that from Chicago...), urban "elite", he needs an older, white, southern, rural guy who can help nail down that wing of the old "Dixiecrats".

Problem is, short of Mike Huckabee, I don't know who really fits. And I don't think the Huckster is going to cross party lines to play second fiddle in that two-man band.

So another tack left to Barack is to go a different direction, and pick up a white liberal Californian to help nail down the West. Sadly, Dianne Feinstein might fill this slot perfectly. But I certainly hope not.

So it ought to be interesting, to say the least. I don't know which way McCain will go, but Romney might be risky for him, given the whole Mormon thing in the news lately...

Huckabee would be huge. A sure landslide. In the Republican party you have the rockerfeller boys just about money for big buisness, middle of the road types fiscally and politically conservative but more socially moderate, the conservatives who are fiscally, politically, and socially conservative. With right wing and christian groups in it. Reagan republicanite brings it altogether. Now Huckabee is the christian vote but not the right wing. That would really bring the country more together but I just don't seeing the parties allowing it.

Saw a piece the other day suggesting Bill Richardson as VP to Obama. He's of Mexican ancestry, governor ( or ex-g.)of New Mexico, an ex Clintonista.

That's why it won't happen, it'd be too much change for many voters to cope with ("No WASP on the ticket!? This is too much too soon, I'm staying out of this one!"). He's also bad at debating, and Obama would have to have a special task force on hand to handle all the times that Richardson puts his foot in his mouth.

A lot of people are touting Webb, but I think he's a sure way of turning away many women, since some of the things he's said and done are kind of misogynistic. Clark would be cool, but he isn't a great campaigner and it would be better if the VP would be somebody who could run in 8 years (which also eliminates Webb), so he'd probably make a better Secretary of Defense. Edwards would be a great Attorney General, but there aren't many good choices for VP, it might have to be him.

Can't be bothered to think about the Republican VP choice, their options suck worse than the Democrats' options.

Richardson and Edwards will get something for their support of Obama but not the vp job. Webb is a good choice. Old Bill passed me on I-25 going to Sante Fe when I lived Albuquerque last year. He was speeding in a goverment v8 chevy tahoe. Nobody liked him as governor. I know I wasn't impressed. He says he is hispanic. But everyone in NM says he says what ever you want to here. Remember he is a Red Sox and Yankees fan. Yeh ok. Yep that was on the Tim Russert show.

I appreciated him endorsing Obama, but apart from that, I'm not too impressed by Richardson either.

As I've said above, Webb has baggage that might make some people feel disenfranchised, plus I don't think he's as popular as many people think. After all, he beat George "Macaca" Allen by 2% or something, in an election that anybody could've won after that particular gaffe. There's also some serious doubt about his campaigning ability. On the other hand, he does have the military background that might make some voters feel good about having him on the ticket, and since he was a Republican until 2006, he might be seen as good choice for reaching out to centrist Republicans.

Had Obama not been so strong in the primaries, Clinton's VP choice would've most likely been Bayh. While I don't particularly like him, he wouldn't be a bad option for VP.

Of course, there's also Sebelius. Many speak very highly of her, but she screwed up a bit on the biggest stage she had so far (Democratic response to the Bush's last SOTU address).

On the Republican side, I had a quick think and one option McCain would have is to put Sarah Palin on the ticket. I know, it's a long shot, and there are probably too many corruption scandals in Alaska at the moment that she'd be made responsible for to make her a viable choice even for Republicans, but she's hot and I wouldn't mind seeing more of her ...

Another thing one needs to consider is that one doesn't want to necessarily put somebody who is a senator from a swing state in the VP slot, or any other position in the administration, since one can't be sure of regaining that seat. Going by that logic, that would eliminate Webb and probably also Bayh. Kerry, Biden and Dodd would be alright because those seats could be regained by the Democrats, so at least one of them will be in the running for a post in the White House (Kerry and Biden will be a strong contenders for Secretary of State).

I thought of Romney too, but I don't think McCain could work with him. Too many personality differences, though I'd be fine w/ the choice myself. Romney was my pick for President, and I'm also reminded that Reagan wasn't too fond of H.W. Bush either, but still chose him as his VP pick. I'm a bit worried that McCain might " go for broke " and try to woo Bobby Jindal, from Louisiana, but the kid is simply too young ( even though he has FAR more experience in Gov't ,at the Federal level , than does Obama ) and is needed greatly down in his home state. I hope he's given the time to start fixing decades of dirty Louisiana political deals and shenanigans. So far, he's off to a great start.

Haven't given it much thought, to be honest. First name I can think of is Newt Gingrich. He's got a brilliant mind and a tremendous grasp on U.S. history, but I'm not certain he has the temperament to be, say Sec State.

Guess I'd need to think about that for a while. Good question.

Define "FAR more experience at the federal level". I see that Jindal was elected the the US House of Representatives in 2004, the same year that Obama was elected to the US Senate. Beyond that, I can't find a single mention of Jindal in any capacity at the federal level.

So is it your stated position that a US Representative is more of a federal official than a US Senator?

He was later unanimously confirmed by a bipartisan vote of the United States Senate and began serving on July 9, 2001. In that position, he served as the principal policy advisor to the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Chuck Hagel is a Republican who disagrees with Obama on virtually all the policy issues except Iraq. He holds one of the Senate's strongest records of support for Bush. If something happens to Obama, you'd have him as president. Still have a nice ring to it?

While Barr is running as Libertarian, not much point in voting for RINO McCain, but they could make a diffficult choice by selecting Condileeza, Mary Schiavo, Gov Palin (AK), Susan Engeleighter, Clarence Thomas, Peter Pace, or a few other interesting choices.
