Will muslim extremists be emboldened to do more mischief? Will we be respected for our "progressiveness?" Will we be looked down upon for our "weakness?" Does it make any difference having a Madame President?

Or perhaps it will show the Burka covered downtrodden masses that there are places in the world where the orientation of your genitalia doesn't doom you to serfdom?

We had the same argument about Mrs Thatcher and even old and frail she could still whip Bin Laden's ass (there is a brick in that handbag you know?)

I don't think it will make much difference. Her policies won't be markedly different from the neo-cons. Same-old, same-old.

She will be cordially respected all over the world. I think the jihadists will take a wait and see approach to her...maybe a few little "tests" to see how she'll react. Won't be dull, I'm sure.

America loves a winner!

Too bad Hillary isn't nearly the class , dignity and visionary as Mrs. Thatcher. I'd be proud to vote for a woman of her stature.

Hillary Clinton is a pale imitation, at best.

The question had nothing to do with Hillary as such, it was about what Jihadists would think of the US electing a female President. I don't give a damn what they think, it's none of their business, just because they are the kinds of nutjobs that mistreat their women should not effect the US decision at all.

Like I said there is no good reason to NOT elect a woman (this being a generic woman not nescessarily Hillary.)

Must be nice, living in a fantasy world.

So...you really believe that the mere election of a woman will cause all the oppressed women in the world to simultaneously rise up and throw off the shackles of their male oppressors?

Thanks for the low blow, by the way.

I know I should have resisted but I'm a sinner....

But to answer your question the best advertisement for freedom is freedom. If we stick by our principles, if we show folks there is a better way, then over time they will decide to take it. What we need to show the world that women can go into space, be doctors, scientists even Presidents and that there should be nothing that limits their potential other than their own ability. It's hard to maintain the lie of female inferiority when there is living proof that it's untrue.

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Indeed, Fletch.

And that is how you successfully convert an oppressed people. Not by toppling their oppressive governments on their behalf. Rather, you show them a better way and welcome them to share it. You send them insidious samples of your lifestyle and livelihood in the form of ipods, blue jeans, coca-cola, and motion pictures. You make available to them 100 dollar laptops that can access the internet. You let them see the wide world and covet what they've been missing. You make them want to change or overthrow their own government. Even without a violent revolution, your values seep into their lives until they find themselves inexorably and gradually gravitating towards a better tomorrow.

It's like magic.

Come on, though: don't you think that the issue is bigger than just them needing to see what's possible? Seems like a more systemic change is in order. The world has been shown that women can go into space ( http://www.uah.edu/colleges/liberal/womensstudies/astronauts.html) and be doctors ( http://www.boston.com/yourlife/health/diseases/articles/2006/10/02/wom
en_doctors_their_ranks_growing_transform_medicine
/) and scientists ( http://www.astr.ua.edu/4000WS/summary.shtml) and presidents ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_elected_or_appointed_female_heads
_of_state
). There is living proof that women can do amazing things, and plenty of it. And yet, it remains the case that women all over the world are in horrible, oppressive circumstances. But wait--what happened to, "Just show them what's possible"? So...apparently, there's more to be done than just show what's possible. Now, this was my original point: it's foolish to think that just demonstrating what's possible is going to put an end to the oppression of women everywhere. We know damned well what's possible here in the U.S.--yet at the current rate, the gender wage gap in this country won't be closed until 2050! ( http://www.mtsu.edu/~berc/tnbiz/women/pdfs/wages.pdf) And that's after 50 years of systemic change. What I derided as fantasy in my original post was the idea that mere knowledge on its own would change everything. But in places like Saudi Arabia, where the victim of a gang rape can be sentenced to 90 lashes( http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1162378314145&pagename=JPos
t%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull
), more than the mere knowledge of what's possible will be needed. Pardon me if that's un-PC of me.

But what am I saying? You're just going to dismiss me as a religious whack-job anyway, so what's the point?

Hello Causal,

You don't seem like a wack-job to me, and your position seems to have little to do with religion.

You are right, incidentally. Change is slow. I wouldn't be surprised if it took us decades to close our own gaps of equality and fairness for all. Fortunately, the majority of the change we're looking for has already occurred. Like the volume on my Dad's old radio, the big difference is in the early part of the dial. Turn the dial up 50% and you've got 75% of the volume that the system is capable of. The other half of the dial only gives you the remaining 25% in ever-diminishing increments.

The big stuff - equal rights, the ability to vote, discrimination laws... That's the first half of the dial that gives you most of the volume. Now we just have to crank it the rest of the way to achieve the difference between ink and practice. Go back in time and talk to a suffragette, though, and I think they'd agree that it's a brave new world for women in America. (In a good way.)

Change takes time, and it'll take the oppressive nations of the world lots of it to make the changes you're looking for. But showing them what is possible, time and time again, is indeed one of the many important steps to changing their lives.

Though I think Coca-Cola, Blue Jeans, Movies and the Internet are just as important for subverting their consciousness. (Insert maniacal laughter here.)

I say the opposite is true. The male carpet-riders are going to staple their wives' and daughters' vaginae shut and throw them into sand floored closets. Once there, they will spend the next four years eating rat turds and drinking camel piss while waiting out Clinton's only term.

"Equal Rights", huh?
Mind explainin' the nuances of equality when women in the US make something akin to seventyfive percent of what a man in the same field makes?

Well she is easy to forgive...she tries(whole family buys her "Summers Eve" feminine wash and "Vaginal Car Wash's" pussy power spray for Christmas, Birthday, and every other Thursday). That doesn't answer my question though. I really think many women overlook the pitfalls they create for themselves by having a putrid dick pit.

The muslims will be shaking in their boots along with the rest of us as soon as Hillary finds an excuse to bomb some token country to prove her danglers are as big as the next guys.

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

MMMmmm ...

Think that dicrimination exists because it benefits the disriminator (at least in their mind). It's the myth of the zero-sum world gone horribly awry taught to generations upon generations.

Discrimination goes away by investing in women - small loans programs, education and health care. Once women find they can be successful and take care of themselves and their families they tend to chuck the bastards overboard.

But Hillary doesn't have much to do with it.

What zero sum? Hillary kills a few Muslims working in an asprin factory(they get virgins)+ their wives get reparations(USA guilt money)+ Hillary proves a woman can be ruthless leader and gains the respect of the Muslim World = World Peace
