"A defiant Blackwater Chairman Erik Prince said yesterday he will not allow Iraqi authorities to arrest his contractors and try them in Iraq's faulty justice system."

I'm glad we know who 'The Decider' is on this matter.

I read the whole article. I think he's got issues with the jurisdiction of the Iraqi courts. Ultimately it will depend on the fine print of the 1,000 page contract they have to answer one important question:

Does Blackwater have immunity from local govts?

I would suggest that its likely a form of diplomatic immunity. It makes sense for mercenary support troops to want something like that. Anybody who played Strike Commander in the early '90s knows what I mean.

He acknowledges that his men are still subject to US jurisdiction and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. That forum is perfectly capable of hearing this case and rendering a fair verdict.

I note for the record that his point about the attack on the support structure for the US's operations in Iraq is well taken...else the Democrats would not be digging in their history books to find a reason to piss off Turkey and cut our supply lines.

They're risking a direct engagement with Iraqi government forces. It will be interesting how many mercs stick around when they're not just up against women and children and they start dying in larger numbers.

At least this is something the central government can agree about. The surge IS working!
