Hello,

Signy asked me to track Geezer's posts for a pattern that I would instantly recognize. So far I've learned he supports the police and doesn't support Senator Clinton.

But I feel there must be more, else why bring it up?

Can you help? And are there any other forum members that should be tracked?

Hey sorry if this sounded like an "instant" pattern. I'm not sure you'll find it in three or four posts, (assuming its more than my imagination) but I didn't want to prejudice your viewpoint, just provide you with a head's up for future reference. See if we see the same thing.

Well, I can help you out on user Fremdfirma.

Hey. If you want to know anything about my views, all you have to do is ask. All SignyM has to do is ask.

Interesting that it's one of the 'liberals' here who wants to start the profiling.

JONGSSTRAW

Hillary Clinton will be an all-too-easy target for destruction by Republicans next year. She carries more baggage in her life than Barney Frank has in his personal oollection of bedded page underwear trophies.

She was a radical lawyer, her first "Clients" were The Black Panthers...and she signed on to defend their "rights" to kill people in the name of overthrowing the Govt....real nice!

Then ALL of her uber-shady stock and land deals will once again be investigated...look for more Vince Foster-type suicides and jail terms for her inner circle.

Hillary is the best thing the Republicans can hope for.....Can't wait to see all the videos of her flip-flops on every issue, can't wait to see her re-played "Vast Right WIng Conspiracy" videos of her defendng her loyal, loving husband against the Lewinsky scandal, despite his own admissions. Funny I never saw her once, not fucking once, EVER apologize to the millions of people she vulgarly smeared as the "forces" that doomed her pseudo-husband to eternal mocking and disdain for his LYING TO AMERICA, BLAMING EVERYONE BUT HIMSELF, and using Hillary and his CABINET to be paraded out day after day to defend bad boy Willy..guaranteed to be a real hoot.

First of all, this statement is being taken way out of context. All I meant was: remember what Geezer says over time. As I'm sure you do the same for me.

If that (Having your public posts on an open forum being remembered over time by a bunch of geeks who have absolutely no authority ) gives you the heebie-jeebies, I don't know what to say!

Think of all the different words SignyM could have used that have the same meaning and are talking about the same thing -
to follow Geezer's posts over time
to mentally tally Geezers' posts over time
to compare Geezer's posts over time
to study Geezer's posts over time
to observe Geezer's posts over time

And you focused on ONE WORD - track. It doesn't matter to you than when people 'track' something with their eyes it means 'follow'. Or that when people 'track' their stocks it means 'observe'. You, with your one 'track' mind chose to think it means stalk - hunt down. And make a big, idiotic and pointless deal about it. Even start a whole idiotic thread over it. And your fellow idiots are now following your 'track'. Thats' why you're a fucking idiot. And so are they.

Actually the moment you become rude someone knows you have run out of arguments. You have a very interesting pathology. You are completely convinced of your own magnificent infallability and you become beligerent to anyone that questions it. First you get obtuse, then you nit-pick and then you get insulting. You're kind of a 3 step plan. When you are still browbeating folk and picking through their posts you seem to think you are winning the argument, when the insults fly is when you know you've lost.

Hello Rue,

Thank you for finally being specific about your observations and grievances.

In fact, I'm not thinking of track as in 'stalk' or 'hunt down.' I totally understand that I'm meant to observe Geezer for some kind of pattern in his posts.

I haven't detected any, yet, beyond a support for the police and a dislike for Clinton. This doesn't seem like the kind of pattern Signy wanted me to find. Else he might have said, "Yes, that's it! He supports the police and doesn't support Clinton!"

And in any case, that seems like a strange thing to spend time observing someone for.

Signy claims not to want to taint my observations, which is why he won't tell me what I'm looking for. But if I'm looking for something, I'm already tainted. If I was going to notice what he wants me to notice, I'd have noticed it without being asked to do so.

Asking any one of us to observe any other one of us for unnamed patterns feels wrong to me. If Signy detects a pattern of something interesting in someone's posts, and he wants other people to see it, he ought to state his premise and cite examples to support it.

It reminds me of Porky's (the film.) Q: "Why do you call that girl a dog?" A: "If you date her, you'll find out."

It's not useful or helpful in any way. Less Tracking, More open statements.

And please, Rue, fewer insults and attacks. I don't deserve what you've said to me.

This is so frustrating! I agree with Rue that this thread is scary - for those who don't follow all RWED threads, opening a post saying: "Track this guy" is awful big brotherish and sure doesn't make me feel good about posting here. It sounds downright hostile, although I later figured out that you didn't mean it the way it sounded.

On the other hand - Rue! Cut it out! I almost always 100% agree with you, and I know you're capable of really good arguments. But then you go all hostile and it ruins everything. You bring the discussion down, and you make my side (our side) of the debate sound bad. You do us injury, my dear.

You don't have to accept every invitation to dance. (And on this thread, you weren't even invited! You started the name-calling. Why, oh why?)

Peace all.

I think we all track one another's on-line opinions, personas, and what we can glean of personal histories over time. In fact we probably track even more things than I can think of off hand.

I think even you have tracked people. And I think you've tracked SignyM to be topic-oriented and fair. To look at ONE WORD to cavil at ???? And post a thread on it ??? While all sorts of snark and insult TO SignyM goes right by you without pause on your part ?

Added b/c we cross-posted
I would WELCOME debates that are actually on topic.

But SignyM did say "Track". If you take people's words at face value, that is what was meant. Any reason not to take SignyM's words at face value?

Maybe you want to alter Humpty Dumpty's rule 'When I use a word, it means just what I choose it to mean, neither more nor less.' into 'When someone else uses a word, it means just what Rue chooses it to mean, neither more nor less.' I seem to recall a book about that. "WAR IS PEACE; FREEDOM IS SLAVERY; IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH"?

So, now YOU get to interpret my motives? I wasn't meaning to be "arch". I wanted to point out yur posts to AnthonyT for a couple of reasons:

Most people are pretty overt in their opinions and IMHO relatively unsubtle about expressing them. Your posts are different, but they may get lost in the shuffle. I was asking Anthony to simply pay a little more attention to your posts than to some people who may grab a little more attention because of the language that they use.

And if anyone sees a pattern of argumentation emerging? So what? What are you so afraid of? That someone may think "Wow, that Geezer is sure a clever guy!"? Or coversely "Wow, that Geezer is sure a weasly rat!"?

May I be honest? I KNOW I'm gonna catch hell for this but... Most of you seem quite fearful: fearful the mildest form of social controlo, which is simply to be noticed and remembered by your peers. Fearful of standing behind your own words. A lot of you who would freely apply tasers and surviellance to others suddenly whither if just a LITTLE potentially unfavorable attention comes your way.

YOU have never seen an open call to the webmaster to report your particulars to the FBI. YOU have never been followed, nor have you had to think about what would happen to your disabled child if you should disappear, even for for a few days. But if that shoe even gets close to YOUR foot, you suddenly shrivel like a salted slug!

I apologize for choosing the wrong word. I simply meant "remember" or "study over time" but I was in a hurry chose a word with unfavorable conotations. Now, if you want worry about it in the context of a discussion among a bunch of geeks on an open forum- feel free.

You could be mugged on your way to your car tonight, you could be involved in an accident, you could be murdered in your bed. However the overwhelming probability is that none of those things will happen.

Posting here is not a valiant act. Being "right on" on an online BBS does not make you Che Guevara, trust me if the country slides into insanity the blackshirts will have far more important folks to "disappear" than you.

You didn't get my point: They already have. To me. For posting on an open forum just like this. The sentence that truly got me in trouble? I was posting about the war in Afghanistan, and said "I would be worried about biological warfare about now". A week later, anthrax letters were mailed. You think you're immune from suspicion? Well you THINK the FBI followed you (--- as you recall some of us think that was too amateurish for the FBI.)

If it did happen as you believe, what an appauling waste of public money. Seriously, I read only about 25% of your posts and even I can see that you're harmless. Maybe a lil bit paranoid but largely you feel impotent and frustrated rather than angry and resentfull. You would hardly be high enough up my suspect list to pay the manpower on a multi car tail.

Fletch2, I live in a very quiet low-density neighborhood with very little traffic andalmost no street parking. It is very unsual for a car to be parked on the street, much less at the end of my driveway. So when I see a guy w/ a cup of coffee and a map waiting for me at the end of my driveway, who follows me thru four turns onto a freeway and halfway to work, only to be replaced by similar cars for the next three days... that is not "imagination".

Was it amateurish? It was. They were following a lot of leads. I was on the botton end of priorities, but they prolly felt they needed to check up, just in case. So they assigned me to a new guy in a car they pulled from the "government fleet" and I just happened to leave my house ten minutes earlier than my 99% schedule. If I had left at the "usual" time he prolly would have been further down the street- or on an intersecting street - by then, having already familiarized himself with my address and route.

And he's not gonna report "Hey, I fucked up" to anyone, he's going to follow me like the plan says and keep his mouth shut, and so on for the next few days until they figure out that I am, as you say, harmless. But if they're willing to waste resources on such a low-probablity-lead, what does that say?

Well you claimed in your other post that they did a two car switch, then botched it by swapping in an identical car. I mean does that really sound slick to you? It makes the exchange pointless. Especially when they could have tracked you via GPS tracker.

Let's recap, you saw a guy acting strange in your neighbourhood and believe that he followed you over several days. Even if that was true you don't really KNOW it was the FBI, could be a security company hired by your company, maybe a coworker's hubby hired a PI?

You assume you were followed, assume he was government and then assume that it was the FBI. You know you argued Antimason into the ground in the ID thread about making facts fit the theory and yet you are doing it yourself here.

That's not what I claimed, or certainly not what I intended to claim. When I pulled out of my drive, the person in the car very hastily put down his coffee and what looked like a map, and followed me halfway to work. I noticed, looking in the rearview, that I could not see his face thru the windshield. Don't know about where you live, but in CA that's an illegal amount of tinting. Next time I looked in the rearview that particular car was gone, but there was another car behind me, ALSO with an illegally tinted windshield. And for the next two days, there was some sort of car behind me with very heavily tinted windshields. I have never seen that before, nor since.

BTW- I've been told that if a car follows you thru three or more turns, chances are you're being followed. And I never said it was one guy. Also, a wemaster WAS asked to give my personal information to the FBI- I read that post myself. And there was a very active investigation going on in our area- it was in the newspapers.

I trust the evidence of my senses.

RUE

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

S'wenyways, I guess now is the time to get to Fletch's really on-topic, snark-free posts. I'm including what he is responding to, to illustrate his out-of-the blue snark replies to fact-based and civil discussion:

What do you mean: "Acting in favor of rhetoric"?? On the face of it, that doesn't sound like a good idea.

You know your misquoting folks is part of the reason people stop talking to you.
SignyM
Quote:

Fletch2- I'm not misquoting, I really don't understand what Finn meant. That's why I asked. But if you know what Finn meant please enlighten me.
Fletch
Quote:

Well I don't speak for Finn, or even agree with his analysis but what he said was pretty clear.
Finn's contention is that Europe favours action via multinational entities such as the UN as an excuse for inaction. Ie, they can CLAIM to be against something, do all the posturing and sabre rattling they need to do to look tough, safe in the knowledge that bodies like the UN will never agree to authorise anything.
The crucial thing is to look at the complete sentence, it is not "Acting in favor of rhetoric." It is the failier to act, and instead to favour rhetoric.

SignyM (cross-post)

So, will either Finn or Fletch explain the statement about acting on rhetoric?

And my questions never get answered. Sigh. Story of my life. I was hoping Finn would illuminate his comment because it puzzles me greatly, but if anyone else wants to take a crack at it, feel free.

Where? I looked up three posts from Finn's post and from THIS post and I don't see anything that applies. So, I'm blind. Give me a key word to "edit- find on this page".
BTW- I REALLY don't think I deserve your snark. I asked a question, I can't find the answer. What's your problem?

Oh, okay I see it. But Fletch2, have you ever considered anger management classes?
Finn replies re 'acting in favor of rhetoric'

Okay, it was a true misdunderstanding on my part, I just couldn't make the original sentence make sense. Now it does, thanks.

Sig: I am sorry I wasn't having a good day. My friend's handicapped daughter died on Sunday, she is needless to say a little broken up about it and as "caring friend #1" I've had to deal with a lot of her dark moments. I have a certain degree of compassion fatique and it seemed you were being deliberately dense. I didn't have time for that.

Rue: See how simple that was? I'm still waiting for you to appologise to Anthony.

Apology accepted. Go ye and sin no more, wherever possible.

Sorry, then. The cryptic "You'll know it when you see it." comment, and lack of any further explanation seemed not very helpful in relaying your idea.

Hardly withering. In case you haven't noticed, I'm pretty much taking this whole thread as a joke. If you got the time and mindset, you can copy every post I've made here since the get-go and send them off somewhere for analysis. Have fun.

YOU have never seen an open call to the webmaster to report your particulars to the FBI.

Not an open call. I don't know about in secret.

YOU have never been followed

Wrong. When I worked with NORML back in the day, I was tailed on a few occasions.

nor have you had to think about what would happen to your disabled child if you should disappear, even for for a few days.

No. At the time all I had was a cat, and he could take care of himself.

Now that's quite an assumption. I didn't shrivel when the VC were shooting at me, so I'm probably not gonna go all gooey about your 'tracking'. Don't take yourself too seriously here.

I apologize for choosing the wrong word. I simply meant "remember" or "study over time" but I was in a hurry chose a word with unfavorable conotations. Now, if you want worry about it in the context of a discussion among a bunch of geeks on an open forum- feel free.

Please don't apologize. This has been endless fun.

Oooh goody! I get to be snarky! You DO know what "most" means? It's different from the word 'all". They only have one syllable each, but start with different letters. Might want to look it up some day!

When you are still browbeating folk and picking through their posts you seem to think you are winning the argument, when the insults fly is when you know you've lost.

wow, thats alot of pot calling the kettle black by both Fletch2 and Jongstraw...

you really going to call somebody out for namecalling?

in the last two days there's plenty of examples to site from both of you on that very thing. So...

yawn.

Would that mean that in those instances you've run out of good solid arguments?

Not really. If you recall the title of the thread the idea was that there is a patern to Geezers posts. I was just showing the "pattern" to Rue's.

I was out of order with my comments to Sig and I have appologised. I thought it would be nice if Rue appologised to Anthony, but of course she wont.
