I can't tell if you're being serious or sarcastic Josngsstraw....

Surely, you don't lump me in that pile for accusing Bush for being the straw that broke the camels back when it comes to the ongoing ruination of America by our politicians for DECADES.

I HATE LIBERAL COMMUNISTS!!!!!!

I HATE REPUBLICAN FASCISTS!!!!!!!

I've said it a billion times. In fact, there is a lot of good on both sides. My father says he can't figure me out because I'm like an extremist on both sides. And I suppose for a lot of issues that's true.

For example:

I support STRONGLY, the right to bear arms....

Yet I also support STRONGLY, right to abort your fetus. (personally, I could never do it, but I respect the individual's right to choose, so long as it's done VERY early on, before they are sentient and you're infringing on their rights)

I support Strongly the decentralization of Government and a strong policy of free trade...

But I also support somebody's right to marry somebody of the same sex in the court of law where you get the same treatment from Big Brother as you would if you were in a traditional marriage....

If you'd really like me to, I could list 100 more things here that I support from either side.

That's the problem. Neither side is on our side. They're two sides of the same coin... the same pendulum swinging back and forth and with every swing, it does nothing but make more laws restricting our freedoms.

I'd say I was Libertarian, but I don't like to even label myself. I follow the Constitution. It's the only thing that has made our lives as good as they've been the last 200 years. Piss on it or burn it now, even for "safety" and we won't ever get it back. Big Brother's weapons are too strong, and they won't give a shit about us having a tea party now. All the tea we buy comes dirt cheap from China....

Mr. 6ixStringjack, I rarely refer or respond to individual posts, but yours intrigued me. To answer your question...no..I don't lump you in with the types I typically rant at and attack here. I find your posts interesting & entertaining, and full of passion. The vast majority of posters here either ignore me, or insult & mock me, and that's just swell by me. They usually only demonstrate their stupidity and hypocricy. i don't have a Wikipedia chip implanted up my ass like so many here, so my opinions don't count for squat. Ahh... the fabulous argument that anyone looking at our goverment with open eyes must be an Al Qaeda lover. Don't burst a braincell there, Rap.

And, yes, lots of people are opening their eyes and believing what they see. Forty some percent want impeachment of Bush, sixty some percent want impeachment of Cheney.

New question (I'm so bad about hijacks!) how's come we've been in Iraq for 4 years and Al Qaeda is stronger than ever and that means we must stay in Iraq? OK, that's not such a hijack. "War is peace" and all, right Orwell?

Jongstraw....

I thank you for that post. It really means more than you think. I know we've agreed on things in the past, and I know we've disagreed on things in the past. I've probably been a real ass about it at one time or another, but forgive me if I've forgotten what it was about... there's so many I disagree with. An ally in one thread is an enemy in another....

Obviously, we have some disagreements on this particular issue, but I belive that we also have many things we agree on.

I think our problem here, and in most of the "Real World", not just the RWED, is that we have aligned ourselves with sides that are not looking out for any of our good. Maybe even, we've allowed ourselves to become so complacent in the last 3 or so generations that we expect Government, whichever side, to look out for us. And that is our mistake. The Government exists to serve the will of the people.

My absolute favorite quote of Benjamin Franklin's, and not the trite and overused quote I used earlier, is "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote."

This is to say, that we are a republic, and not a Democracy. Democratic Liberals would confuse this easily since their party affiliation is so close in verbage to the word Democracy. The ancient Greeks were a great civilization, and they were Democratic, and where are they now?

What this quote means, is that we need decentralized Government. I'm perfectly fine with 10 states in the union desiring that they would like cigarette taxes to be raised to pay for children's health care. That way, people who had children and wanted healthcare could be together, even the smokers. And people like me, who don't have kids and don't want that can move someplace like Kentuckey where they've bareley ever raised taxes on cigarettes at all. I see no reason that anything needs to be universal. There's a lot of land, particularly in America, per capita, and I don't see why like minded people shouldn't be together and live life the way they see fit.

But Branch Davidians and Southern States in the Civil War can tell you how well that works out when you try to do it against the Will of The Powers That Be. The Davidians fell under a Democratic President, the South, under a Republican President.

Not coincidentally, this is why I'm 100% against the "popular vote" and 100% for the Electoral College. Trust me, I wasn't 2 years ago. I was just as pissed off as most people who hate Bush. But I like to think I've grown since then. A popular vote is slave to the media and the 49% who disagree will find themselves ruled by the 51% who agree. The electoral college takes into consideration what people of differnt backgrounds want against what people of other different backgrounds want. To make it a "popular" vote, is to make the winner whoever Avril Lavigne tells people to vote for when she takes her turn wearing the "Vote or Die" tank top in 2 years.

Fuck it... maybe that's what people want. Not to have to think for themselves and to vote for who our celebrity Gods and Goddesses want us to vote for.

I'm moderately indifferent to popular Vs electoral college. The biggest problem I see with electoral college right now is that if someone, say, cheats in FL, they can do a relatively small cheat, and sway the national election since things are so evenly divided right now. I only pick FL as an example, never would I imply it has actually occurred. I'd say it out right. Ok, they cheated!

What we need is to fix the voting process so at least the fellow who wins some form of vote has done so honestly.

al Qaeda isn't a 'pre-9/11' strength. They were intent on destroying us BEFORE Bush was ever in office, so what the hell has changed, other than we've killed or impriosoned 1000's of their leaders and followers, frozen much of their financial assets, tracked them down across Europe and the world.... yeah, LOT'S changed. They're going to Iraq to be mowed down by the boat loads. Wow, that's some impressive training, acting as target practice for the US military!! Better over there than here!! Good job, W !

Rap,

Speaking of Kool-Aid how much have you had ? Really, how else can I respond to such a complete disconnect from reality ?

Let's see - Al-Qa’ida reconstituted, cooperating with Al-Qa’ida in Iraq to attack the fatherland (how's that for not fighting them here ?) and radical Islam gaining support around the globe.

WAY TO GO RAP ! You GO GIRL !

Meanwhile, please PLEASE !!! post a link, a searchable quote, SOMETHING to indicate you're getting your information from somewhere on this planet.

http://dni.gov/press_releases/20070717_release.pdf

Al-Qa’ida is and will remain the most serious terrorist threat to the Homeland, as its central leadership continues to plan high-impact plots, while pushing others in extremist Sunni communities to mimic its efforts and to supplement its capabilities. We assess the group has protected or regenerated key elements of its Homeland attack capability ...
We assess that al-Qa’ida will continue to enhance its capabilities to attack the Homeland through greater cooperation with regional terrorist groups (notably) al-Qa'ida in Iraq.
We assess that the spread of radical Internet sites, increasingly aggressive anti-US rhetoric and actions, and the growing number of radical, self-generating cells in Western countries indicate that the radical and violent segment of the West’s Muslim population is expanding, including in the United States.

I believe I've found the mothership (long article on a National Review cruise where neocons can let their hair down and say what they really think):
http://news.independent.co.uk/world/americas/article2766040.ece

* edited to add the opening two paragraphs:
Quote:

I am standing waist-deep in the Pacific Ocean, both chilling and burning, indulging in the polite chit-chat beloved by vacationing Americans. A sweet elderly lady from Los Angeles is sitting on the rocks nearby, telling me dreamily about her son. "Is he your only child?" I ask. "Yes," she says. "Do you have a child back in England?" she asks. No, I say. Her face darkens. "You'd better start," she says. "The Muslims are breeding. Soon, they'll have the whole of Europe."

I am getting used to these moments – when gentle holiday geniality bleeds into... what? I lie on the beach with Hillary-Ann, a chatty, scatty 35-year-old Californian designer. As she explains the perils of Republican dating, my mind drifts, watching the gentle tide. When I hear her say, " Of course, we need to execute some of these people," I wake up. Who do we need to execute? She runs her fingers through the sand lazily. "A few of these prominent liberals who are trying to demoralise the country," she says. "Just take a couple of these anti-war people off to the gas chamber for treason to show, if you try to bring down America at a time of war, that's what you'll get." She squints at the sun and smiles. " Then things'll change."

Oh dear, no ....

Baby-boomer here. Born in '54. I grew up with Red Scare, cold war, duck and cover ... and a tad to late for the prime of the hippie movement.

so what the hell has changed

for one, now they're in Iraq. they werent before, but you have since given them the incentive to recruit and ally themselves with other dissidents. alqaeda should thank you, not just for swelling their ranks, but for making us an easy target. Iraq may have had an irrelevant minority of sympathizers at one point, but they werent blowing themselves up in the streets. this kind of thing was not happening before 2003, so whos to say it wont end (to an extent)when we leave. if it doesnt, atleast we wont be in the middle of it. im not convinced the country will become a terrorist safe haven though, if we leave.. it might give the IRaqi citizens the motivation they need to stand for the type of country THEY want to live under

we should consider that maybe we're coming off as imperialists, imposing a socialist secular democracy by military force, on a people who are historically theocratic. turn the tables, and how would you respond in this case? you can bet the 2nd amendment id be resisting just the same, regardless of the occupiers intentions. i cant say thats NOT whats happening in IRaq. its ironic that social engineering is so decried by republicans, yet this is exactly what theyre doing in Iraq, by force of arms no less.. and yet they expect it to work!? you should know that it CAN ONLY backfire; and it will. can we let this be a lesson, to never again *unconstitutionally go to war to enforce UN resolutions, half way across the world, when we have no business doing so?

Quote:

other than we've killed or impriosoned 1000's of their leaders and followers, frozen much of their financial assets, tracked them down across Europe and the world.... yeah, LOT'S changed.

and all this with our military stretched to near transparency. imagine if we hadnt wasted our military and political goodwill and fortune and reserves on Iraq, maybe wed have dissolved alqaeda by now. unfortunately, i just see our continued presence and aggression in the region to continue providing fodder for extremists

Quote:

They're going to Iraq to be mowed down by the boat loads. Wow, that's some impressive training, acting as target practice for the US military!!

you think its that easy? the 'enemy' isnt wearing an opposing uniform, youre shooting and killing civilians, who apparently feel threatened by our presence. meanwhile untold innocents have been killed in the process. thats just unacceptable.

besides, the people who make up the bulk of the insurgency, arent going to take the trek across the Atlantic(or Pacific) to murder us, they just dont want us over there. then, we can return here and spend the hundreds of billions on legitimate national defense, like border enforcement.

Quote:

Better over there than here!! Good job, W !

if its 'inevitable' America will be attacked, then whats the point of attacking Iran or Syria, or occupying Iraq? we should focus on 'defense', not offense then, shouldnt we?

i think weve been safe for the last 6 years because terrorism isnt the threat its been made out to be. its down there with airline crashes and bathtub drownings. the fact that it hasnt happened in awhile definately isnt because 'W' keeps this country(and its borders) safe and secure. any nut with half a brain could have come here and harmed us by now; ESPECIALLY a group like 'alqaeda'!

but instead we'll carry on down this failed path until eventually we do piss the wrong people off, and then innocent Americas will get murdered; only it will be on account of this governments own rotten policies

FREMDFIRMA

Rue, and Sig, partial reason for that is that one of my parents had a condition that would have eventually been terminal had circumstances cut even that short - and thus my mother actually encouraged me to go for broke, squeeze every precious drop from life while you still have it, and enjoy health and youth while I still could, you see.

She went out of her way to not be protective, although I can imagine her hiding behind the curtains chewing her nails the day I tore the training wheels off my bike and proceded to pile up like fifty times in a row all determined to never need em again, and I can only imagine her dismay at my header off the rooftop with an improvised chute made of four hefty bags (which, incidentlly worked pretty well!) among other lunatic ideas.

So when ill fortune intervened via near fatal accident and crippling injury, it didn't really crush me down so much as it might have, and a broad range of life experience, if not employment experience, made adapting a lot simpler than it'd otherwise be... not that I accept limitation easily, you shoulda seen the row over mounting a more flexible ankle joint on the prosthetic leg so I could roller skate.

So even now, I'll get muddy, dirty, do the things my friends wouldn't *dare* or even conceive of cause eventually that clock is gonna run out, and when it does, imma throw a bomber from half court in spite of it, damned if I won't.

So to me, every moment is a precious one, to be consumed and savored, and now with two nieces and a nephew, if no children of my own, I find myself very concerned for the world they're gonna live in, worried that thanks to an ever increasing straighjacket of the mind and will, that they might not have many moments to enjoy or savor, with an oppressive society and government crushing anything but meek compliance and safe orderliness with ruthless efficiency in the name of power and profit.

Over my dead body, quite literally, will that ever happen - cause as long as I draw breath, I'll use any and every means I can possibly get away with to provide that future for them, you see.

If you ever wondered about my reasons, well, there you have it.
