Part of the far-right GOPs vision ? Kill pension funds, break up NASA, loot Social Security..... Bush was recently in India defending the offshoring of US jobs. After the second Shuttle disaster Bush was forced to make a talk about science and space : so he gave NASA a huge new list of impossible tasks like sending people to Mars, doing robot missions around the Solarsystem, get Shuttle trucking to ISS, land on the Moon, finish the space-station, build a new Saturn-5 rocket, build a base to mine the Moon. The Bush-plan was always going to be an impossible task and thus set up NASA for another massive fall. Seems Bush-Jnr is trying to kill every single federal government program and do what Nixon finally wanted to do - end US space exploration.

Now he just has to break up NASA a little more and outsource the rest of it to cheap places like Malaysia, Egypt, China, Pakistan, Russia...etc

Your post is misleading, dishonest and inflammatory.

Nowhere in the article does it say anything about outsourcing NASA to India. In fact, the only place that jobs are mentioned, it's India who has contracted a U.S. company to improve their traffic control system.

There's a bit about putting a NASA instrument on an Indian lunar mission, and another about promoting interoperability between Indian and U.S. systems. That's about the extent of it.

Everyone should ignore your thread title and post, and read the article and judge for themselves.

NASA's budget request for fiscal year 2007 includes postponement or abandonment of several key space-exploration programs, including the James Webb Space Telescope, which is intended as a partial replacement for the aging Hubble, and the Terrestrial Planet Finder, the giant telescope expected to be able to take photographs of Earthlike planets orbiting distant stars.

The primary reasons NASA developed astrobiology was to impact all of NASA's missions including Earth science (planetary ecology), astrophysics (Kepler is a perfect example), and solar system exploration (Mars is just one example). Human exploration was always known to be an activity that would occur in the far distant future. Mars missions are not going away. The queue that exists continues to grow. A new Mars Scout mission Announcement of Opportunity is about to be released. Only by funding the science and instrument programs will future principal investigators be able to truly look for the "fingerprints of life."

Griffin was asked to produce
in 30 days an unclassified report to Congress containing an assessment of the Chinese space program and its goals.
Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va., chairman of the House Appropriations subcommittee with NASA oversight, said he would hold a hearing on the subject to coincide with the report's release.
Griffin acknowledged that China's new Shenzou spaceships are capable of supporting a crew on a round-trip mission to the moon.
But their Long March rockets are not powerful enough to get them there, he said.
The United States has neither a crew vehicle nor a rocket capable of making a moon run.
The shuttle is designed for low Earth orbit only.

Not so many folk have been payin attention, but the Chinese killed a couple of our "secret" spy satellites over a period of weeks - forgive me, I have to be vague on the timeline to protect a source...

And then later gave our intel folks a couple of strong hints that anything in orbit they felt was a threat or nuisance, wouldn't BE in orbit very long.

The whole issue slid under the notice of most folk, but I am sure NRO was gnashing their teeth about it - me, I wonder about the how, we'd have spotted a missle launch, so I am thinkin HERF, directed EMP, or even guidance system hack/jamming.

Considering how easily the signals from most sats are to decrypt, I strongly suspect the latter.

NASA sucks ass anyway, ten times the money for one hundreth of the effort, as with any Gov sponsored monopoly locked in mutual embrace with the Mil-Industrial Complex.

But gorram it, SOMEBODY build me a spaceship so I can get off this rock before we blow ourselves to hell, ok ?
