PIZMOBEACH
How about posting a thread asking what people entertain in terms of their greatest dreams?

DONE

HEB

" If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do.

If there's no grand finish, no big win, then the smallest act of kindness is the greatest thing in the world".

VERY WELL SAID

In my brightest moments I see all mankind united in a quest for the common good, and a sincere love of each other, realizing that hatred and violence really belong in the background of our genetic makeup, and need not be brought to the forefront so quickly, only to harm ourselves.

"It is a dream I have."

I see a world of hope and pain, a world where we don't live happily ever after, but instead happily mostly after. A place where we can believe fragmented and contradictory things without hurting each other, where we can have conflict without getting out of hand, where, though we may not feast, we will not go hungry.

On a personal level I want to grow old among people I care about.

On a less deep level there are two places I'd like to live, one is the permanently grounded Firefly class ship Dreamer of Dreams that exists only in my mind under the, "If I ever get insanely rich I'll build this," section and the other is a very real hotel room in Florence (the most beautiful city on the planet) within walking distance of all the good sights with a stone spiral staircase in the two level room. That exists in my mind under the, "If I ever get insanely rich I'll buy the hotel and use the payment from guests to pay my cost of living," section.

I also entertain the enduring belief that Corporatism will reach a critical mass, and the public will force them to banish the 'bottom line' in favour of 'profitable is enough'.
Then our children will come first, as they should.

Well, that didn't take long. I had hoped to see more personal, real life comments here, instead of the standard political rhetoric.

A lot of people see a better world in their brightest moments, a world they would want for their children and all their loved ones. You know, what they want for the people they personally care about.

Unless you want to make people better a better world more or less takes the form of standard political rhetoric.

If you don't want that then ask the question to shallow people that don't care about the world those they love will live in.

Making people better.... seems to me that I saw some movie which sorta sent a message 'bout that. Hmm....oh well. I'm still naive enough to think that those who live their lives by example are often the best teachers. "Monkey see, monkey" do sort of thing.

For realistic, possible futures, I'll take cigarette smoking a thing of the past. I even believe that it can happen in the next century.

For just plain old dreaming, I hope that someday war and genocide will be way, way down. Maybe a few percent of what they are now. That happens through understanding and shared TV channels!

I don't know about a better world. When things seem the brightest and going really well I can't help but wish that things were just a bit worse off.

Its too warm, too sunny, I have too much money, too much success, my girlfriend is too hot, she wants us to have too much sex, Serenity is too good a movie, the War on Terror is too successful, liberals are too inept, my DVR have too much TV for me to watch, that dinner was too good, the fridge is full of too much beer, there are too many good games on, the Judge is giving Defendants too much time in jail, I have too much hair, my car is too cool, gas prices have come down too much, my puppy is too smart, this post is too long, too eloquent, and finally my office chair is too comfortable.

AURaptor, That's the dumbest post I've ever seen outta you, and I seen some dumb ones.

*Nitpicky part- Corporatism has more to do with economics, I think, than politics.
*Major area of concern- The quest of the almighty dollar is bi-partison, and as such I am singling out no particular party. To assign 'political rhetoric' to my post is like saying I'm bashing Bush if I wish for world peace (Hmmmm....Naw, I won't start).

So, what am I being now, in your unclouded view, by wanting our children to come before corporate profits- too liberal or too conservative?
And if you dare play that "How do corporate profits negate family values?" card, my only response will be

Wow... this thread turned a little bitter.

On a completely different point... I work in a bookshop part time, in the childrens section. And I have seen/heard the all of the following:

Child: Can I have a book
Parent: A book? What do you want a book for? You've got a book at home.
***
Child: I hate books, they're boring.
***
Parent: I don't care how many good reviews it's had you should be reading educational things like Enid Blyton.
***
Parent: I wish your grandparents had never given you book tokens.

All these things destroy my day so I guess one of my wishes would be that every child would read one book that they really enjoyed and could dream because of it.

So yes, Sappy and pathetic but true because what's the point of anything if you don't dream?

Dark Angel, Firefly, Buffy, Angel, Enterprise, Farscape... anything else you'd like to cancel?

My, how does one answer that gem of a response ? First, I meant politics in the general sense, not elected officials or party definition. Either way, it's " us against them-ism" . And who is keeping your from putting YOUR children before corporate profits? Or are you speaking for all of our children? And if all you can do is offer up a to a very basic question, then it shows me that you're a) too scared b) too stupid or c) too brainwashed to even have this discussion in the first place.

And fyi - I don't work for any big 'corporation'. I am self employed. But if you can find a better way of doing business, by all means, have at it. I find it funny that so many folks who bitch and whine about big corporations seem to support them all the same. Unless you're living on a desert island and your appliances are made of bamboo and coconuts ala Gilligans Island, you're just full of shit.

When has anyone ever been happy at work? Seriously. That's why it's called WORK! And it's workplace angst ( which I think is totally made up B.S. but I digress..) and not soupline angst. Which do you REALLY think is worse? HINT: It ain't the workplace one.

Pressure to perform? Heck yeah! Don't like your job, get another one, or go into work for yourself.

No one is forcing anyone to have two jobs, or to have kids, for that matter. Certainly not to have more kids than they can afford.

Do you REALLY need a Gov't to teach you about your family values ? Why should the Gov't be there handing out $$ in the first place ? And what cuts ? Aren't we talking about reduction in increases? Like was the case 10 years ago when Newt Gingrich took control of Congress and the Dems/Media screamed bloody murder at the 'slashing, draconian cuts ' which weren't anything but increases ? Here we go again!

Thanks for the kind words, per the times I make sense. Likewise to you as well. I also must say that never did we have times where all is well. Those are clearly subjective observations. 100 years ago, working in the field for 12-14 hours was a fine day of work if it wasn't too hot or it didn't rain. Perhaps its the rise of the middle class in human history which has pitted one man against another. One man works from sun up to sun down and has little to show for it, while another man seemingly works very little, in an office for half that time, and does much better for himself. It's far from perfect, on that we'll agree, but what in life has ever been perfect? Or fair?

Can we do better? I'd like to think we could. Does human history give us any reason to think things will get better ? Depends on whether one sees the glass half full, half empty, or being twice the size it needs to be.

In my brightest manic fantasy, the royal elitists and banksters who rule the world are arrested, put on public trial, sentenced to death, and executed in public, which ends all wars. Communism/Socialism/Fascism is crushed which eliminates over 90% of frivlous laws and frivolous prosecutions/lawsuits under Roman Civil Law/Napoleanic Civil Law. US borders are closed 100%, and only opened to nations that adopt the US Constitution, US wages, US environmental laws, and fully equalize all other relevant laws (ie Fair Trade). US military is only used to defend US borders. 30-million criminal aliens are arrested and deported. Export of US oil is stopped, US oil wells are uncapped, and pumping US oil back into the ground is stopped. All government buildings are required to have solar panels Made-In-USA. Nuke bomb plants/factories are replaced with solar, wind and geothermal farms. Alcohol Prohibition is repealed and US farmers are required to have moonshine stills to manufacture clean-burning alcohol for motor vehicles. Drug Prohibition is repealed to put the CIA and Bush Crime family and mafias out of business. Income tax is repealed (ending partnership of church and state via 501c3 contract). Property tax is repealed. Sales tax is repealed. US government pays US citizens to live in USA, like Alaska state government pays residents to live in Alaska. 90% of government employees are fired. Traffic copsters are replaced with ambulance crews and skid-control school instructors, and all adults are required to own guns and educated in law of self defense and citizen's arrest. Theft of $70-trillion/year in CAFR government pension funds is stopped and used to fund government. Federal Reserve Bankster Corporation is terminated, and power to print money is returned to US government. Medical doctors are arrested, tried and executed for 2.5-million murders in USA every year, until the murders stop. The child-sacrifice idol of Molech in Bohemian Grove is exploded with TNT in a live nationally televised fireworks display on all TV news channels on the 4th of July. Yale Skull & Bones is opened to the public. Luciferian "Jewish" Freemasonry (ADL B'Nai B'Rith) is outlawed. The 10 Commandments of law are displayed in all schools and court houses. Pedophiles are executed in public (just like on Battlestar Galactica). Then I could live my life free from armed robbery by Police State Death Squads, and earn a wealthy living, just by minding my own business.

Then I remember 95% of people are merely illiterate sheeple, who love their slavery and pretend they are free, without ambition to be anything else, without the intelligence to be anything else, without the genetics to be anything else, who volunteer for braindamage and mind kontrol chemicals in water, air, food (including drugs, meds and "vaccines"), who willingly sign numerous slave contracts and worship genocidal Gangsta Govt as their GOD.

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

In my brightest dreams greed is not believed the ultimate source of all that is good. People know it leads to insecurity and hate and waste. Everyone understands that having enough for health, comfort, security - but not more - leads to good lives.

By following my previous rant, US government would thus pay US citizens to live in USA, like Alaska state government currently pays residents to live in Alaska. Same is true in all other nations. With freedom from armed robbery and freedom from slavery, goes freedom to enjoy the 'Verse. It's foolish to pretend we are not all engaged in a shootin' war every day of our lives, whether or not FMJs are whizzing past your helmet. Why do ya think poisoned "vaccines" are called "shots"?

It's foolish to sit in a foxhole and tell jokes, as the enemy sneaks up on you. It's follish to trust gangsters in government who want to rob, rape, kill or enslave "their" citizens. There's a time to tell jokes, and laugh, even in war, just to keep your sanity, while those around you are losing theirs. But to pretend there's no war is the definition of insanity. Trusting Gangsta Govt with ANYTHING is suicide, due to signing slave contracts with an enemy that publishes official reports of its intent to genocide 90% of planet Earth.

The irony is that each person holds the keys to his or her freedom, by simply not participating in fraudulent slave contracts with Gangsta Govt. Which why the multinational Media Mafia and Public Fool System are used as a Weapons of Mass Deception. "Young and dumb" is the "perfect" citizen/slave.

I'm not kidding, these are my personal, real life comments, based on 45 years of getting robbed and stabbed by Communist Gangsta Govt and its JudeoFascist Mafia minions. And I'm a former gov't employee. Funny how gettin' robbed and poisoned can jade a person's sense of humor. Hindsight can be 20/20, which is still only half as clear as 20/10. What doesn't kill you makes you smarter, or dumber, as the case may be.

I think I’d like to win the Nobel Prize in Physics and then retire a wealthy man on the proceeds from my best selling book that described my Nobel Prize winning achievement in laymen’s terms using a lot of convenient Star Trek-like analogies. Then I would write another best selling book with all my spare time, only this time, it would be a fantasy novel set in between the Roman and Saxon worlds, which would also become a best-seller and I could finally buy an all stone 6000 sq.ft house on a crag overlooking the ocean somewhere along the Atlantic coast. Also I would own a mint condition 1988 Corvette Calloway Sledgehammer.

Greatest Dream?

Serenity 2 gets the greenlight, finally gets its due, followed by Serenity 3, and the inevitable return to TV.

Oh, and Wash and Book aren't gone, it was allllll a bad River dream.... Too Dallas?

Sorry to highjack the thread. I so hate seeing good people I've come to respect argue, unless you all don't mind a good tussle in some mud. Hey, why is it only for the ladies? Come on guys, let's see them speedo's.

Hmmm... my operation goes well, I re-up with the NG, make it the rest of the way through JFKSWC, find out a new season of Firefly's been made while I was gone, watch it while enjoying my civilian job as a member of the Maryland State Trooper STATE team, get deployed to Afghan, meet up with Sgt. Peitch and Sanders, come back, second Serenity movie has been released, several mor seasons of Firefly expected, meet Summer Glau at a convention, woo her into my manly loving arms, get deployed again (Columbia), die from machine gun fire a week before returning home, get a funeral plot next to my grandfather at Arlington, receive some sort of posthumous medal to hang on my grave, Ms. Glau leaves a rose for me and moves on with her life, family and friends remember me happily and move on as well.

(Scene fades out to black as "The Blood of CuChullain" begins to play)

Yeah, it'd make a great movie. At this point I think the best I can expect is just to die and be forgotten, though. Still, thanks for the thread, I think it helps a little to be able to endluge just enough to pretend like it's actually possible.

"Deep in the battlefield covered in blood
Lies an Airborne Ranger dying in the mud
He fought for his country and he died like a man
Though some people back home just wouldn't understand"

IN my perfect world I am able to go about takin out stupid drivers when I see them drivin stupid.Vaporising vehical and driver with a single glance.

Im able to stop stupid long criminal trails by vaporising the attorneys with a single glance.

I am able to vaporise greedy people with a single glance.

I can vaporise entire armies of stupid suicide bombers as well as single ones.

hmm...I guess if I could just vaporise things with a single glance that would be a start at a perfect world.

Actually I think that was personal. Just because it isn't limited to an individual or selfish doesn't mean it isn't "personal"- some people just have an expanded sense of things that they care deeply about.

And as for dreams- why make them "real life"? Isn't that what dreams are NOT supposed to be??? Reminds me of a scene from- I dunno, "Man From Uncle" or some such- two people crawling thru the desert. First person wishes for water, the other for champagne. First person looks at the second funny, and second person replies: "Well, we're not about to get either, so if you're going to wish, wish big".

So, my dreams:

My family gets healthy and we all live healthfully and productively to at least 120.

The world comes to its sense and kicks out the greedy bastards that make everyone else miserable. (Notice I didn't say anything about vaporizing people? Guess I'm just a good man. Well, I guess I'm alright)

Everyone voluntarily decides to have only one child per couple for the forseeable future.

Firefly comes back to TV.

Rewards go to those who work not those who steal.

The concept of intellectual property goes the way of the dodo.

Everyone gets all hyped up about global warming and starts on a massive reforestation campaign.

Everyone get all hyped up about invasive species and really inspects imports and exports.

Firefly comes back to TV but not under Fox.

No. Dreams have to be real life, otherwise they are just fantasies.

Actually, that is my most sincere personal wish for a better world. I have posted about it many times. It came to me literally in a dream, and it was so convincing it was like a conversion. That's why I don't think of it as political - it's more like religious. Except without god.

If you don't object to peoples' dark unrealistic fantasies, why do you object to their bright dreams?

Who said I objected to anyone’s “bright dreams?” And who said I don’t object to anyone’s “dark unrealistic fantasies.” I don't necessarily, but why would you even assume that? Hell, I didn’t even post in that thread.

Pretty simple really.

I'm happy. You're happy. My family is happy. My friends are happy. The world population is happy. We're all just pleasantly happy and enjoying living life in whatever way we prefer.
