Okay, folks, the previous Out of Character commentary thread just got too full and was getting difficult to load, so I'm starting the next one now.

This thread will contain general out of character discussion, as well as direction, commentary, and story arc information from the directors. If you're one of the actors, please check this thread before posting a move to the in-character RP thread.

If you need a refresher of what went before, you can reference the OOC5 here:
http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=17&t=3628

...and the Chat Room here:
http://www.fireflyfans.net/fireflychat.asp

Access the latest story thread here:

Let the fun continue!

Heh, I came up with another way to complicate things further!

The colors I based on the color plot cut-away ...

...found in "Serenity - the 10th Character" special on the DVDs.

It helps the reader(synopsis & transcript maker too!} quickly ID the scenes location by color when just skimming the thread quickly.

I can email anybody who is interested the full text with correct color tags in place. All anybody would have to do is highlight copy and paste the full text/tags right into their post from the email or doc file.

And yes, I also posted this in the RP thread. Just in case somebody doesn't read the OOC thread.

And speaking of Deck plans and cutaways ...

Have you seen THESE wonderful renderings?!?! -

I asked Gaidheal if we could use them in the RP.

If s/he says yes ... I'll scale them down for a new RP aid thread. Serenity Deck Plans or somesuch title.

Chromophiliacs Unite!!!

The Grey is on the march!

Prepare all bastions, set the moat afire - prepare for SEIGE!

And don't forget to rotate all the stoplights to the horzonital in either direction! That'll slow them buggers down.

BSF: I understand, an old girlfriend of mine was almost totally color-blind.

That is why I made the statement about the stoplights - she HATED those, until she figured out how they were set - red to the right and green to the left - in most cities that had them.

Come to think of it, I haven't seen any horizontal stoplights in quite awhile.

DIRECTOR TEAM REQUEST

Okay, folks - We have all the character development information in, and now we come to the part where we figure out what to do with the rest of this episode, and where the miniseries is going to go.

While Ms. Co-Director and I work that out, we're asking everyone to hold off on posting to the RP thread until we're finished.

It should only be about a week. I know it seems like a long time, but figure that we're doing this around our day jobs and we have 13-15 characters who already have stories in progress to incorporate here. As soon as we are finished, we will post here and in the OOC. The second. The instant. We promise.

Among the things you can expect are a rough story outline (don't wanna give away too many secrets ), a more standardized post format for ease of reading, regular director posts (to nudge the story back if it jumps too far off the track), and a description of what we're doing/how the director thing will work.

In the meantime, we'll still be about online. We're not disappearing off into a dark corner somewhere.... at least, not without you... we may need a snack...

Keep the Shiny side up

As previously threatened, If I can't RP, I have to inflict poetry. Here is Thorne's sonnet to Inara (which may appear in the RP if he can ever get her alone again). For all we know, poetry training my be required for high-ranking Alliance officers. Or it may be traditional to appeal for a Companion's favor with a flowery sonnet.

Criticism is, if not welcomed, at least appreciated.

Sonnet for Inara

If the white night ever comes again and rest eludes my soul
I’ll recall the color of your eyes, the perfume of your hair
Then like a swelling tide of peace, your love o’er me will roll
As my nightmares change to reveries, so comforting and fair

In the world we only met today, yet you I’ve ever known
As a Goddess, as a Fairy, as a lover, as a friend
In this time so brief between us, the vision I’ve been shown
Has stirred a song within me which I hope will never end

I have seen you so courageous, and I have seen you kind
As in my hopeless dreams I had imagined you would be
And now the only hope that lives within my dazzled mind
Is that some day you will find the things you always sought - in me.

Dear Companion, in the hours since I was captured by your sigh
“Inara” has become my prayer, my hymn, my battle cry

Good Morning All.

Capn - yes you are correct, you were the last person to write me poetry. As a matter of fact, you were the first person to write me poetry. Somewhere along the line, it must be my fault. It's too consistant to be any other way.

Geezer - My respects to Madame Geezer and I have no interest in becoming part of a harem, one man at a time is about all I can do justice too. But still, it makes one weak in the knees to read that kind of lovely stuff.

Boomer - Right on girlfriend. I am a charter member of S.O.I.S.O.R. Romance may not be dead, but I think it is at least deathly ill.

Teela - Thanks for the thought. I will see if I can come up with the first 2 lines. I can write drivel quickly enough - really good stuff can start with 2 lines and take months to finish. I am a slooooow author.

My plastic dino's called Steggy. And I did see your poem, TeelaB. Good flow. I believe I initially read it a day or two after you posted it.
And I agree, It's hard to be brave enough to write creatively when you are afraid to be judged. I figure the best way to get over that problem, is to write about whatever it is that makes you the most anxious or nervous. For me that's easy. Women. There's some anxiety. So, in an effort to practice what I preach, here's an ode to the woman I have yet to find.

Around me I see only the slowly spinning darkness, but I know, in my mind's eye, that you are there. Miles away... yet so close, and coming closer. I have only to reach into the impenetrable black ether to find you...

You are there, encompassing the essences around you like so much flotsam.

I am here, in an eddying pool, longing to be picked up or swept away with the devouring torrential flow.

Maniac, that was lovely! But I understand your anxiety perhaps.

Here you have several sensible, sensitive and intelligent women reading and appreciating your words. In the real world, how many women do you actually know that will read poetry and respond to it anyway? Too afraid of being seen as weak or flighty, afraid to show that feminine side? I work with women who would neither read or appreciate a love poem if it walked up and bit them . . ummmm somewhere.

As for writing - the only way to get over that is to decide (as I did) that you are not doing it for anyone's judgement but your own! Then just do it - don't worry about it and just have fun. They always say "write what you know" but that is if what you want to do is publish. If all you want to do is write, then I say "write what makes you happy". (If I wrote what I know, it would be most boring, dontcha know.)

Marvelous! She's out there. For women the saying use to be "before you find your handsome prince, ya gotta kiss a _lot_ of frogs". I don't really know what the reverse is, but just keep the faith - we all have at least one soul mate, but the weeding out process can be frustrating.

All I have left now is the vend-pack of "NEW! Bacon Curls Microwave Pork Rinds (Original Flavor). Hot! Fresh! & Crispy!" that's been pushpinned to my various cube walls for the last 15 years. I second Merz's assertion that everybody has a Soul-Mate ...

Even then it isn't easy.

Here is my addition - just to keep the male poetry flow going!
{even though mine is old and really rough and unpolished}

This is for you Merz ... my t'hyla, it always was.

BINARY

As I dance my way through the darkling quietus of the Void

My movements shaken by trembling heart and weary soul

Forms drift into view, some to fade - others twirl away in fright

Suddenly I am caught by one who is at once both shrouded and revealed

My heart tremors harder, insistent on retreat

Yet, we are drawn closer ...

We spin in orbit of each other, only to fly away wrapped in fear

The connection stretches and strains, attempting to tear and shatter

To no avail, fear cannot destroy the intertwining gravity of our souls brief touch

Again we are drawn together as two stars locked in an eternal embrace

Forever connected, but never to touch.

Way OT, but "Sonnet for Madame Geezer" was a great Valentine's success, with much quivering of chin and "Oh, sweetheart". And I owe it all to FFF.net and the Gunrunners for jumpstarting my muse. Thanks one and all.
