My family games a lot (pen & paper). I tried DMing once, wasn't very good at it. I much prefer to have a character (or 2 or 3), so whatever you guys decide to do is fine by me. I love gaming, so I can play from now until....well, whenever.

Hmmmm....it would be interesting to try and get my hubby involved as an add-on character during the mini-series.

Hey, Maniac, how did you get that cool little beer mug smiley on here?

Haken needs to add more smileys to his list over there <<<<.

LOL. Funny bit about Bill & Ted. Love that movie.

Love the fact that Mal keeps calling Rowan every "R" name he can think of, except her own. That always kills me. I'm all for Geezer playing two parts--You're doing a great job with Mal! I think you've got his cadence and vernacular down exceptionally well. Keep it up!

I think she'd scare him more than beat the stuffing out of him, subdue him in an efficient but non-lethal fashio. Not that there wouldn't be some manner of pain involved. However, the consensus is to keep him alive (mostly) to continue as the baddie. Sorry y'all, I just never saw Niska as a hands-on kind of villain.

By the way, love how Mal can't remember Rowan's name.

Thanks. I sometimes wonder if I'm being too lighthearted with this...if some RP Nazi is gonna suddenly jump up out of nowhere and castigate me for not being sufficiently serious. But the Gunrunners seem to be a pretty loose bunch, thank Bog.

Nope, no RP Nazis here. Not even the director...

Anyway, I can appreciate that the thread is getting slow. Channain and I are working on getting the new thread together. But it may not be until tomorrow. Bear with us for a little while longer...

Looks like we'll be using Channain's new & improved format for the alpha post of the thread, and will probably look at wrapping this particular RP within the next 2 acts (and possibly coda), before moving into the miniseries. We're still working out the kinks.

Edit: Yay, finally got Zoe and Wash caught up a bit on the action!

Will see y'all in the AM, as hubby is working on a vicious cold that I fully intend to avoid - which starts with getting some sleep!

Until tomorrow, stay tuned, Gunrunners!

Since we don't have anyone playing Niska right now, I suppose whoever wants to interact with him can just have him do whatever is needed to move their story along. It's not like he's a major character (except maybe in Simon's head). More of a Mcguffin.

Not trying to be all directorish, but I still like the idea of Rowan catching Niska. Maybe saving Jayne's bacon at the same time. This would give her street cred with the crew, plus set up an interesting Rowan/Jayne interaction.

McGuffin - a Plot Enabling Device, i.e. a device or plot element that is deliberately placed to catch the viewer's attention and/or drive the logic of the plot, but which actually serves no further purpose - More specifically, it is usually a mysterious package or superweapon or something that everyone in the story is chasing.

Submitted for your approval. Alternate resolution for the "Niska in Simon's head" problem.

As SIMON seals the recaptured NISKA back in the cryo-box, MAL nods to THORNE, who removes a small blackjack from his coat pocket and expertly clips SIMON behind the ear. SIMON collapses, and MAL and THORNE lift him to the examination table and strap him down.

SIMON struggles to consciousness and fights wildly against the straps for a few moments. Calming, he begins to speak, but in an eastern european accent.

"Ah. You think you have me, but I will own you yet. Your pain will be a work of art. Ha ha ha."

As SIMON continues to cackle maniacly, his head rotates 720 degrees in a counterclockwise direction. boils and pustules break out on his face. A blast of evil-smelling slime fountains from his mouth to the ceiling. The entire room shakes.

Suddenly, everything is still. Shepherd BOOK stands in the door. He is wearing full Shepherd regalia and carrying a censor that is producing pungent smoke. He speaks:

"Exorcizo te, omnis spiritus immunde, in nomine Dei Patris omnipotentis, et in noimine Jesu Christi Filii ejus, Domini et Judicis nosti...noshty...nasty...Oh, Heck, Plan B."

Approching the writhing SIMON, BOOK strikes him on the forehead with the palm of his hand, one, two, three times, chanting "Out, you Devil! Out, you Satan! Out, you mother-f**king son-of-a-bitch!

With superhuman strength, SIMON breaks the arm restraints and sits bolt upright. From out of the air, a voice is heard, crying "I'm melting...melting...melting." The voice fades and the room brightens.

SIMON awakes, as if from some vile dream, and notices he is strapped to the table. "KAYLEE, where are you? Were we playing 'The Mental Patient and the Naughty Nurse' again?"

MAL Smiles. Everything is back to normal.

LOL! You guys slay me. I'm on for a few minutes before I head to work (when I'll be on again). Since we have so many storylines to resolve so we can close this "episode" and move on to the miniseries, I have been working on way to get this closed out. I will be e-mailing everyone individually to work out storylines/resolutions, so as not to ruin any surprises, character issues, and back stories that the players have worked out and the other characters/players don't know about yet. I'm thinking I should be able to make the first GM post sometime later today/tonight and we can work from there.

Thanks. I've been thinking about a parody story that has the Serenity crew meet various figures from the sci-fi/fantasy world. I can imagine Jayne coming back from a hunting trip with Jar-Jar Binks slung over his shoulder, throwing him down on the ramp, and saying "Here's supper. Them's good eatin'. Noisy though."

DO IT!!!

Seriously, there have been two parodies written here in the past. One was the Browncoat Chronicles, which took various browncoats (that is to say, us) into an odyssey searching for true fandom...at least I think that's what it was about. It was removed from the site without being finished *ahem*

The other was a sort of Mad Magazine take on the first episode, substituting browncoats (again, us) for the Firefly crew et al and other characters. The "ship" was an 18-wheeler.

Not saying it's been done - saying it would definitely be accepted...hint, nudge, wink.

101 degree temp has a tendacy to eliminate my sense of humor.

One point I have noticed in the RP ...

...so, I 'suppose am an RP nazi ... but here it is anyway.

That players are getting information THEY know mixed in with what the Character has 'seen' or experanced.

If you all think the Niska in Simon's brain is too stupid, I'll eliminate it ASAP.

That's one of the dangers of not having a director - we'll get that straightened out, too.

As for Niska being in Simon's head, I think it's a fine plot device - plus we've been playing it for a bit now, it'd be a little difficult to eliminate. I'd keep it and see what we can do with it for the miniseries.

CAPN - You're talking to us with 101 temp? Go lay down man!

SERENITYSSON - I sent an e-mail out to him, letting him know that there is Jayne-ness needing to be written. If he doesn't respond soon, I may do a Ciara *poof* and try my hand at Jayne-ness of my own. Just doesn't seem right to have Niska runnin' about and no participation from Jayne.

I'll reread the whole RP while sittin'.

(I'll DL the threads to my Clie pda, so I can read it and NOT be at the comp - see, Rahn will lissen ta Channain...)

No worries, Book and Simon could make another 'cleanser' and fix the NCNiska (Neural Clone) right up ... or out - so to speak. The mixup 'tween character and player knowledge has sorta blown the arc I was working on. I have seemed to frell up and not make it clear who is in the drivers seat of Simon's brain. Rahn too wordy...

OR, LOL, follow Geezer's idea - cept it would be Book instead of Thorne handlin' the excorcism...

Getting chased by Feds is gonna make picking up the cargo pretty difficult. Wash couldn't shake one ship in atmo in "The Message", so losing three without leaving Hera just doesn't seem reasonable. We're into Act 9 of "Adventures in Gunrunning", and have yet to obtain any guns to run. Perhaps we could say good riddance to Niska (although Thorne really wanted to carve him up, just a little), jump to the Valley, load the cargo, maybe have Kaylee/Rowan mount the laser cannon while everyone else is loading, and then have the five-0 show up for an exciting pursuit/dogfight.

I'm really just trying to look out for Thorne's interest, since his reason d'etre is delivering the guns.

I stated they needed to lift off, not break atmo. I just cnsidered that WASH was agood enough pilot to get the Serenity to the pickup point.

Astriana was going to chat with eack individual and see what they wanted to 'wrap' up in the next 300 posts/3 threads.

CHANNAIN

i DO aim to misbehave

Actually it was. Astriana asked if I could and at first I said no, then changed my mind. It turned out to be a quick and easy thing this morning. I had originally volunteered to do it in the first place when I suggested breaking the full outline into a different thread in order to make the Alpha Thread (the actual RP thread) a little bit shorter.

Does that make sense?

ASTRIANA

Channain: Good idea! Let's use the acronym DRC (Director's Comment) in the RP to denote some direction/input from the directors. (I already created a new ID - FrauDirektor - but I'll probably only use it for whole posts, not just commentary.)

Geezer: The bit about the Feds is a bit like crime & politics (go figure), situation is always...fluid. We can work that bit out a little better after I have the individual convo’s with everyone about how they see their characters going.

All: I'll start a new OOC thread later this afternoon.
