MANIACNUMBERONE

Book's Move

Location: At the bottom of the aft stairs, waiting for Helsing to talk.

A familiar twinge tickles Book's mind. He shifts to one side to let Simon go by him, and can't help but think that somewhere closeby he's missing a philosophical discussion. He snaps his attention back to Helsing, who looks like he wants to bore a hole through Book's head.

Book to Helsing

"I wouldn't even try using any of your pshycic mind tricks on me, boy. My mind is far stronger than you think."

CHANNAIN

i DO aim to misbehave

Rowan's Move:
-------------------------------
Kaylee: Sometimes ya need to make yer own happiness, and the rest can go hang.
-------------------------------
Thinking on her travels during the past seven years since the fall of the Independent movement, the pleasures she's taken and moments of brief peace--like this one--Rowan has to nod in agreement. But that voice in her head still remains, chanting his name. Xiang. Xiang.

Breathing a sigh, she looks out the door again, and as tempers seem to have cooled, she decides the coast just might be clear.

ROWAN: Well, since I don't have much else to do, I suppose I'll put some energy into cleaning up that mess in the cargo hold. Tequila is fine and dandy in the glass, but you leave it like that long enough and you'll all want to jump ship just to get away from the stench.

Standing up slowly, Rowan stretches her arms to the ceiling again, and runs her fingers through her hair before she smiles at Kaylee.

ROWAN: You wouldn't mind pointing me to a mop and a bucket, would you?

OOC: I'm thinking one of the mysterious doors on Maniac's schematics could be the "janitor's closet." Serenity's gotta stay clean, right?

OOC to BOOMER: You write a darn good Kaylee, girlfriend.

GEEZER

Keep the Shiny side up

OOC: Sorry to be MIA last evening. Sometimes life in the mundane world interferes with art.

Mal's/Thorne's moves:

MAL:[OK, maybe just letting things happen wasn't the best idea. Most everyone has just wandered off and Mal still isn't sure what's going on. The only folk left in the common area are Zoe, Thorne, Jayne (who has been feeding his face the whole time. How much can that man eat, anyway?) and Damon, who is starting to sway in his seat. Where's the Doc?]

"Zoe, I guess you better get Mr. Damon here to the infirmary 'til we figure out what to do with him. He looks 'bout used up. Round up the Doc an' get him to work. Jayne, quit feedin' your face an' give Zoe a hand' dong mah?

[After they leave, Mal sits down at the table and cradles his head in his hands. Thorne moves to the other side of the table, sets a bottle in front of Mal, and sits down]

Thorne: "Have a drink, son. Looks like you could use one. Tell me, is it always like this on your ship?"

Mal: "Thanks, old man.
[takes a long pull from the bottle] Hav'ta say it's been a mite more ka fuang than usual today. Seems half o' them as came on board today are tied to our little River somehow."

Thorne:
[dropping his 'folksy smuggler' persona, Thorne nods and continues] "Captain, you're more right than you know. I can't speak for Damon; but River, Helsing and I are surely related, or should I say different versions of the same product. Let me tell you what I know of our story."

"Twenty five years ago, the R&D arm of Blue Sun was contracted by the Alliance to develop an improved soldier. And they did. Through a combination of drugs, surgery, mental conditioning, and training, they were able to take a regular trooper and improve him. Reaction time up 50%, strength 25%, pain threshhold doubled, endurance doubled, fine motor skills doubled, drugs and alcohol metabolized at will."

"They were able to expand the kinesthetic sense. Given a one second look at this room before the lights were turned out, the man would be able to point out, or pick up, or shoot, any object in the room. He'd just know where they were."

"Their latent telepathic ability was developed. They couldn't read minds, but had an empathic connection with their teammates. Each man would know where the others were, and if they were in trouble."

"I was a lieutenant in the Alliance forces when I was selected for this program, and led the first operational platoon. There weren't many of us. The costs were amazingly high, even for a military budget. But for certain missions we were indispensible."

"I stayed with the program and rose in rank. I thought we were an extremely effective force. But the Alliance wanted more. They were displeased with the cost and rate of progress. Eventually they cut ties with Blue Sun and took over the project themselves."

"That's when things started to change. Military development was downsized and the intelligence services became involved. Secrecy was stepped up to paranoia levels. The new products were to be spies and assassins. Their latent mental powers were to be enhanced to the maximum degree. Their free will, however..."

"That's when I knew I had to leave. I resigned from the Alliance by disappearing one day, and joined the Independent forces. They were glad to have me, since I had a strong strategic background as well as my enhancements. I never could convince them of the new program, though, even when their top men were mysteriously dying."

"I suspect that your little River was in their damned Academy. I can feel her empathy, and see the way she moves. She was probably sprung before her will was completely broken and their veneer laid over her mind. This Helsing has the same traits, but he doesn't look like an Alliance product. Too showy. Maybe Blue Sun continued their research along other lines."

"We're all three dangerous. Me probably the least. Looks like your doctor has the girl under control, and I'm no threat to you, but you probably want to watch Helsing until you find out what he's after."

"I'm sorry to add to your troubles, captain, but you need to know this to protect your people.
['folksy' persona back on] So lets get to workin' on this bottle, boy. Prolly the last chance we'll have for a while."

Mal: Gou zao de. Pray to God, Gou zao de. And don't call me 'boy'!
[He reaches for the bottle.]

Gou zao de = This can't get any worse.

TEELABROWN

Thanks to all again, I'm trying to finish a project.
__________
River is in her room, looking at the dolls Inara gave her. Her mind is whirling with Slight, Thorne, Damon, Book, and Simon, and she's trying to push them out. She looks at the dolls.

No obligations, just for show.

She goes to her door, and slowley opens it. She sees Slight, Book, Inara, and Simon.

Ge-ge, he isn't welcome. He did more than touch guns when he wasn't supposed to.

Simon goes to River, and they go into her room and shut the door.

River's move, supplimentary.
_____________
River, in her room with Simon, says to him:

The other one is welcome. Get him.

Before Simon leaves, she shows him the dolls.

They have no obligations. Just for show.

SQUEE

Damon's turn:

Damon wonders if he can have his gun back but decides not to push his luck. Besides, he'll probably be too doped up to use one just now anyway.
He turns from the captain and follows the voices coming from below, taking his now cold stew with him and eating it greedily. Its been a long while since he had food this good.
At the bottom of the stairs, he walks past Brink and the Shepard, asking for the infirmiry. The Shepard points to a room not far away and Damon walks in, closing the door behind him.
The infirmery looks normal, someone had pulled all of window coverings down and there was a cryo box off to the side. But Damon pays it no mind and pulls off his shirt. He needs to look at his arm wound before anyone else walks in.
The wound is a couple inches below his burn and he decides it doesn't need stitches and starts cleaning it up. In a few weeks, it'll just be another of his many scars.
