OOC:

Geezer: Good idea about getting everyone on board and getting Serenity in the air & then starting the Act 7 thread. Just so everyone's aware, this thread will be a little slow to load in the meantime.

Also, I'm in agreement with CapnRahn that Geezer seems to have the MAL flow. Geezer, if you're amenable, would you pick up Mal's role until we hear back from Humble about whether he'll be able to continue this scenario to its end?

I'll go ahead and post Zoe's and Wash's moves here, then get to work on the Act 7 thread. Let's hold off on posting anything in character post-liftoff until I can get the new thread up. (Which may take a while ~ I took 1/2 a pain pill this morning, so I'm running a little garbled & slow... )

ZOE'S MOVE:

Watches ROWAN with a wary eye while she discusses getting passage aboard Serenity with MAL. Figured that MAL wouldn't turn down another passenger while they had the room, but is a little surprised when she hears MAL agree to take her on as temporary crew. Relaxes her guard, but only slightly, since this woman is still an unknown quantity. Cap'n might decide to keep her on if she does well, and he'll want Zoe to weigh in on the decision - she'll bear watching on the way to New Hikido.

To MAL (before he leaves the room)
: "Right behind you, Sir."

To ROWAN: "Thought you might be lookin' for passage off-world when we saw you in the cargo bay. Looks like Shepherd Book's already shown you to your room in the passenger dorm. We'll be leavin' atmo soon, so get yourself settled in and meet me in the galley after we've lifted off and we can figure out where you might be the most help."

Hears INARA offer to keep an eye on SIMON and RIVER.

To INARA
: "Thanks, 'Nara, I'd appreciate it. I wanna see what's goin' on out on the docks. Firefight near our boat ain't sumthin' we want to be seen's havin' any part of."

Turns and leaves SIMON's room, reaching for her radio as she heads toward the cargo bay.

"WASH, I suggest you keep an eye out on your way back with that cargo. Seems there's a little of the Cap'n's 'local color' happenin', but it don't seem to be any of ours."

Approaching the cargo bay, she hears shots ring out, pause, then ring out again as the engines begin the ignition sequence. Looks out the bay door and sees two men slowing approaching the ship. Neither looks familiar, but she can see that one has been injured in the crossfire.

She moves toward the ramp and sees the WASH on the mule, headed for the ship, with a pickup truck coming up behind him. She looks around and sees several Feds and a combat come around the corner, the combat car fire and hit the load on the mule.

ZOE groans to herself: "Ai ya! Cap'n's not gonna be happy his cargo's gettin' shot at for strangers."

ZOE steps to the edge of the ramp, sees THORNE in the pickup behind WASH and waves them both in. She sees the newcomers come up the ramp, using the truck for cover, and manages to duck when the truck rams into the trailer on the mule.

Thinking that there probably won't be enough tequila left to provide any kind of decoy, she runs to the mule, checks to make sure WASH is unharmed before he heads up to the bridge, then turns to THORNE with a flat gaze.

To THORNE
: "This your idea of helpin' out?"

Turns her gaze to the bed of the pickup and the two men beyond, as she presses the button to close the cargo bay doors and secure the airlock. SIMON appears, medkit in hand.

To SIMON
: "Nice to see you're feelin' better, doctor. I think you have a patient to see to."

Nods to the INJURED MAN, then turns back to THORNE, crossing her arms.

To THORNE (dryly)
:"Looks like your Dock 4 job didn't go so smooth, what with them Feds on your back and your boys here lookin' in need of a medic. You got Badger's cargo in that truck too, or do we hafta brave more Feds before we can get off this rock?"

End Move.

WASH'S MOVE:

Feeling pretty pleased with the deal he got on the tequila and anticipating the possiblity of frosty margaritas in the offing, he hums to himself as he drives the mule along the dockside back to Serenity. A truck pulls up behind him, following slowly. WASH hears ZOE's voice over his radio, accompanied by gunfire nearby:

"WASH, I suggest you keep an eye out on your way back with that cargo. Seems there's a little of the Cap'n's 'local color' happenin', but it don't seem to be any of ours."

The gunfire pauses, then starts again. WASH heads cautiously up the ramp to the cargo bay, the truck still behind him, and notices two men using the truck for cover as they make their way slowly up the ramp.

He ducks as the combat car fires, showering him with glass and tequila. Finally arriving in the cargo bay, WASH brings the mule to a halt and gets off with a mind to kiss his wife hello, just in time to miss being thrown when the truck hits the trailer.

ZOE comes over to him to check if he's okay. Gingerly brushing glass from his flowered Hawaiian shirt, he assures her that he's fine.

To ZOE
: "Nuthin' broken, lambytoes, just a little shaken. What the tien xiaode* was that guy thinking? Is THAT our contact?"

Hears the engines start up.

"Oops! Better get up to the bridge before MAL starts talkin' about hiring another pilot."

WASH hears THORNE call out as he heads to the bridge:

THORNE: "Whoever's driving better un-ass this AO pretty soon, or them Feds are gonna blow the Hell out of the rest of the tequila, not to mention us and the ship."

WASH enters the bridge, shaking his head. Sees BOOK looking slightly confused, going through the take off protocols as slow as a first year flight student. He walks up behind the chair and puts his hand on BOOK's shoulder.

To BOOK
: "Thanks, Shepherd, I'll take it from here."

BOOK looks grateful as he turns over the big chair. WASH sits down, his hands flying across the console as he gets the ship ready for departure. Once the controls are set, he glances at MAL over his shoulder.

To MAL
: "Looks like the Feds have changed their tactics since our last run-in. Now they figure we'll surrender if they shoot at our hooch. Also looks like we might have a couple more travelers on board. When do we expect Thorne to be on board with our cargo for New Hikido? Dock patrol's gonna want our departure time."

End Move.

Ha! I can run like that without having to resort to drugs. Just ask my co-workers.

But, on a more serious note, I'll try my best to move Mal around until we hear from Humble. Sounds like big shoes to fill. I'd better do a bit of review.

OOC: We haven't quite lifted off yet. We need to determine whether Thorne's cargo is with the stuff from Dock 4, so we know if we can go. (No point in leaving atmo if we have to come back to get more cargo... )

I've put up the new thread here:
http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=17&t=3544

We can either start posting there now, or wait until we lift off. Let me know what you want to do.

Thorne's move:

Zoe says To THORNE (dryly):"Looks like your Dock 4 job didn't go so smooth, what with them Feds on your back and your boys here lookin' in need of a medic. You got Badger's cargo in that truck too, or do we hafta brave more Feds before we can get off this rock?"

Thorne replys, a bottle of tequila in each hand:
"Hell, girlie, my end o' the job went just fine, even if I did have to do it all by my lonesome, after y'all never showed up. Smooth as silk right 'til I got here and ended up in the middle of a Purple-belly shootin' gallery. And them ain't my boys. I don't know either of 'em from Adam's off ox. And yep, we got another stop, in Serenity Valley, but there ain't gonna be any Feds there. Probably need to lose this truck, too, after we get the goodies out of it."

EOM and on to Act 7.

OOC: Okay, suggest we go ahead and start posting to the new thread now, since this thread is getting clogged.
