First game I held the players were trapped on a moon and had pissed off the Magistrate, The group consisted of a huge guy with the crude complication and a preference to heavyweapons and was a former browncoat(although kept it hidden), A hacker who was also a reader and hunted by the hands of blue and was a former browncoat, Another former browncoat that had serious temperproblems and last and least a bountyhunter with no strings attached to the independents and mostly wanted to see his buds staying alive. When the whole thing ended the huge guy had sold out his hacker pall to the men in blue, and gotten passage ofworld, the other two tried to hitch a ride with a miningcorp and got taken as slaves. Hopeing that my next group will be able to work a bit better together

I'm playing the Serenity RPG, as well. Though with folks moving off soon, I think we only have about 2 good sessions left, so I'll have to wrap it up premturely.

I'm GMing this, being probably the most fanatical Browncoat of the group. It's my first time GMing anything, though (before this we'd been playing DnD, though one of the six in the crew is a newcomer). I do enjoy the story I got worked up, and the crew has constantly managed to foil my schemes up until now...

The most recent one was a boarding attempt by 4 tong members while the Captain, first mate, and mercenary were gone (i.e., all the people who could actually fight). I'd expected them to capture the Reader on board, and hold the rest of the crew hostage while they took them to a moon off of Athens. What I didn't expect was for the Companion to distract them while the crazy Mechanic set up grenade traps around the ship.

When the captain returned,
Captain: What the hell happened to my gorram ship!? Why is it smoking?
Mechanic: @(#*% *@#*@# !)$*()$* @)!!! KF

My DnD playing buddy recently found out about the serenity rpg, and started organizing a grp, for which i am eternally gratefully. I selflessly volunteered to buy the book... hehe... selfless. As if there was anything selfless about buying a shiny book of shinyness about firefly. (or rather, abbout serenity. as far as i've read, the book cannot mention the series cause it's owned by fox. they subtly allude to it tho.)

plan to start playing next weekish, cant say this grp will last too long, but i'll be there till the last.

MEENOL

I've played a term-long campaign as a player (ana alcoholic, clinically depressed technophobe mechanic), and found the system rather clunky. I love the idea of the step penalties, and the d12 getting an airing is marvellous, but it does take a lot of getting used to, our group found.

For reference our crew also contained a smoking, (obsessively) gambling do-gooder captain, a rough-diamond Arabic speaking female pilot with a fancy for Mills & Boone novels, an ex-Browcoat doctor who really should be drawing his pension and getting back to the British colonies in India, a 17-year old whose town got burned down by bandits and is now ever-so-slightly a psychopath with a BIG smile and a tuneful whistle, and a mercenary with a love for big explosions. We also had a Chinese gambler/confidence trickster at one point.

Has anyone got any ideas for making the system smoother, apart from practice? And possibly some ways to make the adventures less samey?

I have a group here in Wisconsin, we play Serenity,

I am a player myself with my friend being the GM.
Our Crew's got a Captain who is a former browncoat
The right hand man who is me (browncoat corporol who was dumb enough to take on a big damn hero while i was a vetran, and good enough to win the fight. He also is scared of ghost, but it's ok because he is positive that if he prays to his garlic gods and doze his room in garlic he will not be haunted)
I also play A mechanic who got fired from a noodle company restarant and stole a bunch of stuff before he left, every thinks he is gay cuz he often lathers in oil and strips to 'clean and get between the hard to reach places'. (i have fun with him)
A merc who is a very stupid player so we just put him in situations he can't mess up.
We have a pilot who's name is chuck (lets go up chuck!)
Last but not least we have a boni fide companion.
We just found a ex assasin/sniper, and a ex gaurd who can talk you into anything.
Then we have 2 characters that the GM plays, just cuz we hired these guys and unless there doing anything we need them for are just background people.
A hill billy doctor who is as smart as his office is dirty, and anoter merc who we have to pay alot to use him so we just have him sit around alot.
Thats the crew of the Jiffy Pop (a firefly) a
recently acquired Snick Snack (a hornet) we stole a skiv, and have a dart type thing (don't know actually name)
So far we have a whole other crew as arch enemies, it might be crazy, but we have fum.

I have the book, but I'm clinically incompetent. Well... I'm just stupid, as it comes.... (That comma's important, I'm not as stupid as it comes, it just happens to be that I'm stupid. Sillies.)

I have fallen in love with the boook, though, and if I were to find a good GM in my neck of the woods, and ... understand the mechanics of the game, (no, not the silly people running around covered in oil trying to fix the thing that just fell of that little side corridor over there so that we all don't die; the way the game works) I'd be open to playing it. I've never properly figured out a gaming system.

Heh.

So much for my useless addition to another thread at FFF.net. Yay.

Ok for the record lol I just use the mechanic to mess with the other players when he isn't doing mechanicy things. Otherwise he's vaugely normal. (vaugely, read: not at all lol) Plus the GM gives me mad xp for all his shenanagans, since he is the only player who plays to his complications and assets and has a personality and isn't afraid to show it.

I live In reno and game with a small group here. I turned them all on to Firefly and Serenity awhile back. when It came my turn to GM, I talked them into a short campaign in the Serenity Verse. 5 months later we finally finished. it was a great campaign and they loved it. they had a Raven class transport called Poisoned Gold.

Yeah... um. That was just random. Not really directed at your coment.

May not be smart, and it may not please you, but you're definitely gonna see what I have to say.

bought a dragonfly class frigate (bigger than firefly and gues the shape) used by indepentence fore it crashed on Beaumonde durring the war
and started doing what i always wanted to do -fly

(attended pilot colleg -alongside wash who i called washout due to his name and he called me washout due to my grades - after flunking pilot rtraing -involving 3 crashed ships at the same time - the only way i could fly was to buy myself a ship

fragmented family - my half Almost all dead except me surpported the browncoats - other half centered around my dads brother surported unification and the alliance

God bless all who who crew the good ship Dragonfire
An Screw the bastards who'd harm any of my crew, me and my boat

SANMATEO

Well...chiming in a bit late but my rpg group is based in southern Lousiana and we've been on a serious Serenity RPG kick since about March of '06.
Check out our website at http://www.geocities.com/mp.sanmateo/serenityindex.html
We've already completed two nice little campaigns and are discussing a third. So far? Loving it! An absolutely wonderful rpg system that MWP has produced there. It's already become our favorite and eclipsed AD&D a while back.

DRAGOS

My wife and I love the Serenity RPG and we have three other Browncoat friends that play and I am working on recruiting one more. If there are other Browncoats in the Olympia, WA area, maybe we can fit you in.

12 players in the Houston area in a game I'm in.

There is also a guy who runs a LARP once every few months complete with costumes and props.

I also play D&D second edition and Shadowrun Second Edition

Browncoats are the shiniest folks in the 'verse

SHIMAUMA

Me and the hubby are in a group here in St Paul. So far the group has had 4 good gaming sessions so far, 3 of which we attended and the last one was the episode with the crazy sheriff control freak. Our GM has been really gentle so far, and our rolls have been lucky enough not to kill us. I like the idea of blogging the sessions, if it's exciting enough, it might draw more attention to the game.

I was smart and picked hero worship as a complication. Seems my character's home on Higgens moon had some stranger drop a load of money on her mudder camp. Her share was enough to get her off the moon with a missionary group. Now she spreads the good deeds of Jayne Cobb throughout the 'Verse. Her motto is "what would Jayne Cobb do?" Last session she knocked out a pair of bouncers with a barstool.

Praise be to the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle. ~ Psalm 144:1

Jayne Cobb: Shepherd Book once said to me, "If you can't do something smart, do something RIGHT."

SPEAKFIRE

I have the RPG books but alas, can't seem to find anyone in my area to play the game with (Or find the time to play). When I first got the book, I found 3-4 people who agreed to play, but they all ended up backing out on me right after character creation. The book however has been an invaluable reference for writing fanfiction purposes, so it definitely does have its uses even outside of roleplaying.

I have my fingers crossed that someone at Dragon*con will be running a Serenity RPG cause I am totally signin' on for that.

I live in Seattle and Gamemaster a Serenity game. I am looking for more players always.

We have 3 players other than myself (I have a single npc atm).

We are also cosplayers working on our character oufits (feel bad for my roomate Corissa, she is the Jane like character on the crew and will spend 1500 or so on replica weapons lol)

I am looking for a place to play currently. As a player. In Connecticut. Been trying to find a place to play for a week or 2 now. Having no luck at all.

Use to play PbP and had fun being a pilot in one and a gunslinger in the other. Great group of guys but the eventually stopped. Looking for another one. Wished MWP would get their forums up and maybe join a game there.
