Ho Gunrunners!

This thread is to discuss the new GunRunner MiniSeries RP "Shadows of the Pale Moonlight" {new working title} coming soon!

Got any questions, observations or even critiques - post 'em here!

I'll begin by discussing the difference between the way we have played and my proposed ideas for the miniseries.

These ideas were culled from many conversation between myself and many of you. I would like to thank, SaintJayne, MercedesTroy, Channain, Squee, Ciara, BoomerGoodheart, Geezer and everyone one else who shared any ideas and thoughts.

Format
The direKtor {Me, for the mini} will set up the key 'linchpin' scenes and let the acKtors run from there.

Other than that, the direKtor basically GMs the game and posts as the direKtor as little as possible. Allowing the acKtors/players the freedom to be creative.

GMing :
Cat Herder* - Moving the story forward with 'jump scenes' that incite an action from one or more of the acKtors/players

Judge of Random Variables - gunfights and other insanity, but only if it gets out of hand and out of character {that is already established} for anybody. Superheros need to rethink or just apply over at the X-Men cattle call.

Continuity Sentinel - watches any continuity problems and asks acKtors/players to edit things, if need be.

Yaaawn ... OK, I think that is a good start ... let the fruit & veggies begin to fly!

Here is the brief of the proposed mini.

FIREFLY
GunRunners DireKtor's Notes for:
MiniSeries {WT} "Shadows of the Pale Moonlight"
FF 1AGE14 RpGr2

SPEC SCRIPT
Initial Timeframe: March of 2518
6 days after "Adventures in GunRunning". The crew has vacation, rested and relaxed until they get a distress wave from Rowan's husband - Xiang.

Linking Story Line(s)
A) The crew of the Serenity aid 2 new passengers. One in finding a loved one lost to slavers and the other a chance to find peace & stop running from the very same slavers.

B) Serenity receives a distress call. The message conveys that Xaing's cover has been blown & he needs extraction.

C) Simon has disappeared shortly after leaving Serenity in "Adventures in GunRunning". It seems that he was captured by some organization called the 'Enclave'.

Fulcrum Story Line
Adelai Niska has returned and taken control of the Enclave by a short and nearly bloodless coup.

ACT BREAKDOWN
Teaser:
Crew is having a vacation & getting to know the new passengers, on or near New Hokkaido. Until Damon gets a fractured distress wave on a archaic wave set.

It is from Rowan's husband, Xiang. Whose cover within the Slaver/Organleggers has been blown. He is uncharacteristically desperate for extraction. There is a strange coup going on in the Underworld and no place is safe. He has to get information to his superiors fast - lives upon lives are at stake.

The message originates from a moon that circles an Inner Rim planet named Tophet.

I hope I get to play a bad guy in this next one...
On a side note, to all RPGunrunner's, Tash has informed me that I should let you all know he doesn't want to play Early. He actually told me that about a month ago and I just never told you. I think I may have a brain tumor. seriously...
Anyway, I was wondering if I could pose a question... Aren't we going to pick up Simon almost right away? Or is that not supposed to be very soon? Cause if it is soon, then it seems weird that we would have a vacation with the crew, when we didn't have Simon back yet. So, brain tumor or brilliance?

Yes, you can still play the bad guy, Commodore Mekafoy in Dragonfly. May have to do a quick interlude with him later in the Mini-Series.

Or, if Geezer isn't able to play Corzaire Jax, I was going to see if you wanted to.

I had thought I remembered that Tash was not interested in playing Early anymore. Meebe from a chat with him on the TagLog or somesuch.

Nope, Simon is not going to be picked up soon. There are 'plans' to, but you know how plans go, bwhaahahahaaha ...

The only referances I can remember is from the first "Batman". A phrase that Jack (The Joker) would say before killing somebody.

And the title of an EXCELLENT Deep Space 9 episode called "In the Pale Moonlight".

I am sure it is from some famous literary source. But I must be deviled*, because I can't remember the book or author!

For my own devilish* reasons, I chose to alter the phrase a bit...

Should we set up a "Hokkaido Vacation" thread? So folks can still RP with each other on how the vacation plays out - if they wish.

No real threasts, just a bunch of fun stuff for the characters to play in.

Like the Torunment that Rowan is supposed to be in...

OR just folks getting to know one another in character and group interactions.

Then start up the Mini with the setup I just posted above.

I like it. A little light heartedness before we get all *serious* again.

Geez - I better work up a tournament structure for this thing, huh? Single or double elimination, do you think? Research! Time to Research!

Hey, all you pool-playing-and-watching enthusiasts out there - help me out here. I've only played amateur for fun, and only just recently started catching tournaments on TV. Any and all advice would be welcome.

Just an idea, since Geezer mentioned the fact that Mal could use all of the crew he's got:
Slight informs the crew, in person, that Simon has been captured. And since everyone hates him anyway ('cept Thorne, who merely tolerates him) why not involve the whole shoot the messengar outlook. Although, telling Mal that sort of thing could very lead to a literal event of that old saying.

I'm talking about geese.

I believe that it is a good idea to have a single thread where folks can RP the vacation or just post a 'paper': "My Vacation On New Hokkido"

Meebe where the character does a CLog (CortexLog, shoot me please!} and tella all about the time relaxing.

Your choice!

This thread will be after "Adventure in GunRunning" and before "Shadows of the Pale Moonlight".

The "Hokkaido Vacation" is sorta in the hiatus between them.

BTW, watch out for the Griswald family!

I can say that Maniac inspired me {so blame him, not me} to design this new RP Mini with his wonderful observation and great foreshadowing line.

I have worked with:
Squee and Channain for Damon & Rowan arcs
Deb for Merz arcs
Raven for Slight arcs, but nothing for Wash yet.
