I have an idea for an online Firefly Fan series and was wondering if anyone was interested in such a project? It would follow the same characters as the main series (played by fans of course) and would tell the story of what happened after the movie.

My idea for the opening story would deal with the start of a second civil war following the discovery of the reaver's origins and Zoe discovering that she is pregnant. That's all I've got so far, so I would welcome collaboration on fleshing out the story and writing a screenplay. Also, I need a cameraman and someone to work on special FX.

Anyone interested?

This is the sort of thing that I've suggested people to do in the past when there sights were set too high. There were no takers.

But, to put in a bit of constructive criticism: having the original crew in the show isn't a good idea. No-one could play those characters even remotely true to form besides the original actors. Do a different crew. Not only would that be better for being "realistic" in the 'Verse. But, it would allow for more creative freedom.

Also, depending on where you live, you might be able to hook up with these guys:

http://www.intotheblack.ca/

Or at least possibly coordinate stories with them, or chat about things, get hints, etc, etc, etc.

Good luck

Yeah I agree with sigmanunki, using the original crew is not a good idea. The fan actors could never measure up to the original performance of our big damn heroes.

But i do like the idea of doing a fan film. I've always thought that telling the story of someone else in the alliance academy would be a great premise for a fan film.

Regardless, I think the best choice for a fan film would be to get a new crew and new ship but set in the same 'verse.

And i also would love to get involved, but i'm not so sure how i can. Perhaps writing?

Star Trek: Phase II does a pretty good job depicting the original Enterprise crew, and I say that as an avid Trekkie. If you don't know it, here's the link: http://www.startreknewvoyages.com/

I would love to have you onboard as a writer khambilo.

I'm not experienced enough to lead a project like this. My intention was really to put the idea out there so maybe others would be interested.

Just because you can't be part of the physical team, doesn't mean that you can't be involved nor does it mean that things can't be coordinated, etc. It just depends on what level of cooperation is wanted by both sides.

Except for the fact that it has been widely criticised for its poor acting. This was most notable when Walter Koenig played his role.

And therein lies the problem and the cancer that is in this community. Namely, no-one is willing to actually do anything but talk. "Here's a good idea that I came up with. Now someone do it because I can't because..."

Seriously. I wish that people would either go and start something or shut-up. Because, doing something that has the chance of creating new content is a good thing. But, just taking a piss is nothing but frustrating.

In all seriousness, if you want this to happen YOU are going to have to do it. No-one is going to come along and start something that you (or anyone else for that matter) suggest. It's just not going to happen.

Don't have enough experience? Who cares? Honestly, who cares? Just do it. People get experience BY DOING. Not by stilling around doing sweet fuck all.

I didn't mean to imply that. I was just answering you're question about where I lived.

I simply meant that I need some help. I don't have the skill, equipment, or talent to do this alone. Why are you jumping down my throat?

No probs. If you send me some green screen footage I will put it into any scene you like. Its easiest if the camera does not move but if it does move then you need to have some reference points which I can track to get the same movement in the animation. Typically this might be a tripod or a chair or something else placed in the scene just for the purpose of tracking.

@VeraFan:

"""

"""

You shouldn't really be asking why I'm jumping down your throat. Instead, you should be asking yourself why you keep changing your story.

First you talking about a project you're starting (by starting you're implying leading). Then you say you're not experienced enough to lead the project and are just putting it out there as an idea for others. The implication here is that you aren't necessarily going to be involved at all.

You have also only partially commented on my suggestions thereby implying a 'not going to happen' to the things that you haven't commented on. For instance, with the intotheblack.ca people, I also said, "Or at least possibly coordinate stories with them, or chat about things, get hints, etc, etc, etc." But, not a peep from you on that. Also, I never asked you where you lived. I just mentioned some people that were doing something in case you lived near them and wanted to join the project, etc. Living near them not necessary for some jobs. I was quite explicit about that actually. And now with this last quote above, you're back to being involved, but just not doing this alone.

The above is called flip-flopping. Which isn't fun to be on the receiving side of and isn't terribly good to do if you want people to think you're consistent. Consistency being a necessary quality in a leader or any member of a project. So, by doing the above, you kind of shooting yourself in the foot somewhat.

"""

"""

Lots of things with bad acting in it has "several fans." That isn't the point. The point is that you said that ST:PII "does a pretty good job depicting the original Enterprise crew." Which by most (if not close to all) accounts just isn't true. There IS a difference between something having fans and something accurately depicting what it is attempting to mimic.

In all honesty, if you're going to lead a project, or even be involved in one, you're going to have to learn to actually read what people write, and write what you actually mean. Because, I've seen none of that from you here. As in, no-one can read the thoughts you were having while you were writing your posts. We only get the words you write, nothing more.

SIGMANUNKI, I never intended that I wasn't going to be involved. I'm sorry you got the impression of me flip-flopping. What I meant was I was putting the idea out there so that someone would say "I like this idea" and help me flesh it out and assemble a team to work on it (myself being a member but not the leader.) I want to be Tim Minear, but not Joss Whedon :P

Also, you said "depending on where you live." I was just responding to that.

I'll talk to the guy who does Into the Black. Maybe he'll be interested.

I said ST:PII does a pretty good job at depicting the original cast. and *I* think they do, considering that they are amateurs and not professional actors. If we're gonna go by what the critics say, TOS was crap too :P

I think an important question we're all overlooking is this: Verafan, is your primary objective with this project to do something fun for yourself and for anyone who wants to join you, or is your primary objective a production for the fanbase?

In simpler speak, are you more concerned about your audience/having one, or more interested in the fun factor?

There's nothing wrong with either! I want to say that right out front.

If this is for an audience, the others may be right in that the fandom likely won't accept anyone other than the original actors... Unless you decided to go cartoon style. Which some people won't like or accept for their own reasons, either.

If this is primarily for yourself and the actors and the other writers, then why not tell the story you want, with the characters you want? To say "I'm not going to produce this fan film because my actors just aren't THE actors and my show is not THE show" is like saying "I'm not going to write this fanfic because my characterizations are not THE actors and my writing is not THE show."

If it's for you and your team, you all together write a story you all like, you all want to produce it, and people want to play Zoe, River, Simon, Kaylee, Mal, Jayne, and Inara, then don't WORRY about your actors, because you're just trying to have fun with it!

Any time you post something on the internet, you're running into the chance that some people won't like it. So long as you acknowledge you're not official, and that you're not trying to be, you're just trying to do your own thing, that's THEIR problem, not yours. That's not something YOU have to work around unless you want to.

You might not even post it on the internet after all, and then who's to say what you can and can't do?

Although... Whatever you do, I wouldn't try to charge money for it, you know. *wince* LEEEEGAL issues. *said in spooky voice*

Belated thanks for encouragement. I stopped pursuing this because I don't know anyone who's into fan films (which is why I came on here, I hoped to find some people) and checking this forum because it was too stressful. I saw someone else had come up with the same idea and had better luck with it. I would never charge money for copyrighted stuff. I know all about fan films and the legal stuff. That's another reason this hasn't gone anywhere, I'm broke, lol. I might try to do it sometime in the future, but I might not.

Been a year plus, but thanks for the shout out!

I wish we could do Season Three, but we just don't have enough writers. Our gang has always been pretty cool, but we had an increasingly-cool writing staff as we progressed through Season Two. Unfortunately, when the season ended, momentum stalled and the gang scattered like a bunch of cons at the end of the first season of PRISON BREAK. :)

A few folk still hang around the writers' room, and we talked through Season Three in a fair amount of detail. We actually had it pretty much broken down episode-by-episode. It's just a matter, at this point, of having the time and staff to do it.

Someday...
