I was browsing amazon when it hit me. There ain't a firefly novel anywhere i can find. Some of the Fanfic I read here is just golden, and deserves to be published. It might provoke someone into getting the season started again. Any thoughts

Don't know about fanfic, but there are at least two Firefly/Serenity novels planned. Should be out in '07, or maybe late '06. Right now Joss is still considering the dozen or so submissions they've received.

Submissions? Is it open to we the unwashed or were the solicited?

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move. - Douglas Adams

They were almost certainly solicited, but I don’t know for sure. All I know is that Keith R. A. DeCandido, who wrote the BDM novelization (and posts here as KRAD), and SF author Steven Brust are among those who sent in submissions for the two coveted slots. So I imagine the submissions were solicited from published genre authors.

Although Joss has always encouraged fanfic, the publisher is no doubt weighing in on this and they tend to go for established authors for franchise books. Plus, Joss has to approve which two books get the go ahead (unlike the "Buffy" novels, KRAD has said these two will be canonical), and if he’s taking this long to go through just twelve would-be novels, imagine the trouble he’d have wading through several thousand fan submissions!

...Sounds like a great opp for a collaborative writing approach that could result in (if not books then) more episodes, or movie sequel(s) scripts.

It would be no problem to set up a Sharepoint worksite to share files online amongst a crew of interested writers.

I'm in - what a blast!
