anyone got a resin cast or finished one they're willing to part with? i'm willing to shell out a fair bit of coin for a good quality one, even if it is just a resin cast. i contacted snoopyjon, but have not heard from him yet, and decided why not post and see if anyone's got one.

You are looking for a person named Philippes...his is a very nice resin replica...it's where mine came from, and a lot of others here have the same one. You can find painted ones here now and then, but if you have the time, but an unfinshed one...that way it becomes uniquely yours!

i already have the ebay one from wilco models-but im not satisfied with the way it looks. its not entirely accurate. im picking up a cast from snoopyjon though, and his work seems pretty on par. and that guy phillippes is no longer making casts i believe-something about he no longer access to the original molds or somesuch.

1. Wash everything.
2. Sand everything smooth.
2. Superglue it together.
3. Use some car scratch putty to clean up badly glued bits (resin doesn't like the be glued). I use P38.
4. Sand that down.
5. Undercoat it black.
6. Start painting. (Only use car paints because they give it a great finish and anything less will make it look naff.) Just you've got to pay for quality.

Gotta get that Monsters in Motion one...soo cheap.

Don't feel bad Ruchik--SloopyJon hasn't replied to my e-mails either; I guess he doesn't want to sell those kits after all.

A word of caution--the Monsters In Motion resin kit is the Wilco Models kit than Ruchik mentioned in his second post. It's very affordable but will require some experience in working with resin kits. The one I received was a bit warped; the barrel "droops" downward a little, the handle is bent slightly to the right, and the two "screws" that stick out just above and in front of the trigger are anything but parallel--they both angle outwards rather noticeably. The barrel and handle can be easily fixed; not so with the screws--I'll have to either replace them with real metal screws (if I can find any) or just live with it. I think the rubber Wilco uses in their molds has a bit too much "give" in it, and the end result is a warped kit.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great kit for the price, and I've seen much worse kits sell for a lot more money. But if you're looking for a "perfect" replica, you should keep looking.

Also, Monsters In Motion is known for their poor customer service. Some people have waited more than a year before receiving their order, with very little communication from MiM.

The pistol I ordered actually gave pretty good suggestions on paint and other things to use. I'll type it all up and send it to you if you're interested.

TWITCH

I don't have access to molds, but I do have a four-axis CNC mill that'd do a part that size, and I've done resin casting before. If anyone's got a 3D CAD file, I'd be happy to see what I can do.

Regarding the screws, you might try taking the resin casting to a local machine shop or to a paintball gunsmith. They're usually more than willing to do cosmetic work, and would be able to crank out custom screws made to order as part of the deal.

FWIW, if anyone has the DVD of Sin City, take a look at the special features on how all of the gun and knife props were made. I use different software, and I think Robert Rodriguez uses a Roland mill, but the process is the same.

(Hmmm.... Wondering what body parts I'd have to sell to get a tour of the prop and model shops for Firefly and Serenity... >sigh< Hey, I can dream!!)
