CYBERSNARK

Been out of the world for a spell (with family for Canadian Thanksgiving, then I got really sick). How's everyone? I miss anything important? Movie news? BDH posts?

*ponders reading through the ginormous "favourite cartoons" thread*

You missed the Troll. But so did I and I was here.

What's with Canada having Thanksgiving now? Don't they know anything? They have all KINDS of weird timing on holidays. Didn't they have pilgrims and crap like that to show them when to have turkey? Jeez.

Weird timing on holidays? Other than our Thanksgiving when is the timing off on our other holidays?

Welcome back Cybersnark!!

I don't think you missed much, there was a nasty troll yesterday . There was some controversy over whether or not another poster was a troll (see the AnonymousPoster threads for more info), there was a Jewel blog last week I think. Other than that its been kind of quiet around here news wise.

Hope your feeling better!

Malicious,

I'm not offended at all - I was actually trying to josh back at ya. Didn't work I guess (still trying to defeat that written vs. spoken thing that seems to come up a lot on boards).

And hey, our holidays are kinda messed up. After all how many countries refer to one of their holidays with the term for a case of beer? (The May Two-Four/Victoria day weekend).

Glad I have not offended.......yet, anyway! I'm still just another fan to you, for now. (sigh) Enjoy the pre-Mal-licious splendor while you can. I'm sure I am just a click away from some sort of offense, real or imagined. Just ask Neroli.

So, what the heck is up with "Boxing Day"?

(Damn! SO close.)

Actually, someone in my hometown actually did some research about that. Cornwall being the cultural equivalent of a border planet, it was all over the local media. Turns out that Canadian thanksgiving commemorates the first colonists landing in P.E.I. (and thus, anywhere in Canada).

And also, in November, we can actually focus on getting ready for Christmas. None of this "overlapping decorations/products" thing I see in American shopping malls.

And we get a good month and a half to digest one huge dinner from thanksgiving for another huge dinner on christmas.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Don't worry, I'm pretty difficult to offend. As for Boxing day, it's an extra day off! We don't ask any questions .

If I may ask, what is the Red Bell from Hell?

Boxing Day: 26 December - Tradisonaly the day the parish poor boxes are opened and distributed. Also it was the holiday of those who had to work on Christmas - cooks, cleaners, servents ect.

(clears throat) Ahem.

The "Red Bell" refers to the bell Cardie78 and I held in the Firefly Jeopardy contest at the PA shindig. It was defective and caused us to not win. In other words, it was the BELL'S fault, not our lack of knowledge. Thus, it was from hell.

Ahh.. I see. Can't have bells like that .

Wait - did you say Firefly JEOPARDY?!? Neat!

Even with a bell from hell it still sounds like fun!!
