WISHIMAY

Phrases and bits fill my head this evening. Extra points if you can tell me what two movies the first two come from

1.Welcome to Hollywood!
What's your dream??
Everybody comes here, This is Hollywood-Land of Dreams!
Some dreams come true, some don't; but KEEP ON DREAMIN'-
THIS IS HOLLYWOOD!
Always time to dream, so keep on dreaming....

2. Back off, back off... This guy has his OWN dreams that won't come true....

3.

4. And here's a list of movie sayings about the American Dream, what ever that means these days...

What's all this got to do with anything you ask??? I started thinking tonight about all the dreams I had as a teen and how much I've compromised after my kid started talking about what she wants when she gets older and I keep telling her not to get tooo stuck on any one idea because life changes faster than you can even notice. I keep telling her she sometimes has to just figure it out as she goes, and that got me to thinking what dreams have you all had (besides the kinda obvious one that got us here )
and which ones have you still held on to and still are working to see happen?? If you could make a movie about anything or see a sequel at anything, what would it be? (AGAIN, the first person that says "Serenity 2 is gonna get it I mean it!!)

I wanted to be a veterinarian first, then work in a zoo, then I wanted to be a surgical tech, an art teacher, own a kids play place (like Chuck E, but with food that doesn't suck) and the last one was own/run a Medieval History Museum that serves period food (minus the plague-y aftertaste).

These days my dreams are waaay more mundane, like- finally get the entire house clean and repaired for ONE FREAKING DAY, or make it to 60...
What I couldn't have done If I was a rich girl, na-na na-na na-na na-na

ZEEK

Uh first quote is from Pretty Womam I mean come on who doesn't know that? The rest I don't know.

I too first dreamed of becoming a vet. Though as a kid I was terrified of shots and my mom told me I'd have to give animals shots. So, that went out the window pretty quickly. Ironically I inject my cat with fluid twice a day now to help with her poor kidneys. Later my dream was to make videogames and specifically a vast RPG world. However, in college I took courses on graphics and artificial intelligence and realized I didn't actually like coding that stuff. Probably good too because I hear game development is pretty awful. I guess the only dream I still hold onto is being rich and not worrying about money ever again. I mean I play the lottery once in a blue moon. It could still happen.

What movie would I make? Hmmmmmm I was actually thinking about a concept for a game but it makes more sense as a movie. I was thinking about an alien race that are like walking ion cannons. They'd basically shut down any electronics around them. They'd basically be at a major disadvantage as other races develop technology. However, they'd figure out a way to brainwash an enslave others as their means of acquiring and controlling technology. We wouldn't figure that out in the movie for a long time. The movie would actually start with just a discovery of some alien technology on Earth. Little would they know that its purpose was to brainwash people. Slowly the audience would start to figure out that some people weren't acting right. However, they'd just be luring more and more people in and brainwashing them as well. It would basically be a scifi suspense thriller. The climax would be about destroying the device. However, it would end on a very mixed note as we would not figure out how to cure the people who were brainwashed. We'd only be able to capture and study them. Leaving plenty of material for a sequel.

DEVERSE

Hey, Ive been in a firefight before! Well, I was in a fire. Actually, I was fired from a fry-cook opportunity.

Hmmm... been puzzling over that #2 quote all day. Familiar, but cannot place it.

Whenever I hear of dreams I am always reminded of "Of Mice and Men" and "Breaking Bad" - especially the first season. I also think of the Great Gatsby and its lesson that the great dream may only achieve a living nightmare of purposeless existence and stagnation; that in reality there is no dream to achieve because life would be horrible if everything was that perfect.
I suppose that the struggle is probably harder for some than for others and in contemplation I think I've had it pretty easy. It's not like I had anything given to me, I'm comfortable saying I've worked for and earned everything I've achieved, but I suppose my thought would be I have been fortunate in my choices and things have worked out pretty well.
I also feel dreams change for one reason or another. Did I ever dream of being a multi-millionaire and a life of ease? Probably - at some point, but not now. In consideration though I don't think I'd change one thing in my life and I certainly do not have any real regrets or any unfulfilled dreams - well maybe that one weekend in Ft Worth where me and a group of fire fighters found ourselves in the middle of a Hawaiian Tropic competition for their next bikini clad spokesperson, but that would be more a fantasy than a dream so I don't think that counts.

Anyway, if I had the means and resources the movie I would make would be a close as possible following of the book by Robert Heinlein called "Time Enough for Love". It would probably be in 3 or 4 parts as it is one heck of a long book, but a hugely entertaining one, because it is the story of a man whose reach always exceeds his grasp, but he never stops reaching, even after he finds out what it is worth reaching for.

Oh let the sun beat down upon my face
With stars to fill my dream
I am a traveler of both time and space
To be where I have been

I suppose that's why it's on my mind so much lately, I've become acutely aware of how short a span I've probably got, and I've hit that age where it's make or break for a woman and there is DEFINITELY more breaking than making going on around here... "What's it matter anyways" fixes most things, just wish my kid could find what she's looking for.

The second quote was from "Robots". Robin Williams said it... I swear I cringe every time I hear it
