I must be nuts, soliciting funds for someone else's animals when we currently owe our vet more than $500. However, [info]empressjad does really serious animal rescue (our efforts are a spit in the ocean compared to hers), and her group is currently working hard to place the animals of another rescuer who was just kicked off her rental property after being promised by the now-deceased landlord that she could stay there all her life. They've already successfully placed horses, dogs, goats, and peacocks. Now they're working on the cats:

The problem is, being spring/summer, there is an abundance of cats/kittens being dumped. We found foster homes for all the cats that are fixed. There were 15 that weren't. We managed to scrape together the money for 9 of them, and found a vet that would give a great deal, under the circumstances. That leaves six. If they can't be fixed, the choice is to be left behind, or be euthanized. All over lack of money, because we have a placement for them if we can get the money to fix them. We have until Thursday. The 31st.

I'm going downtown today to see if I can get some of the business owners to donate something, but I'm not real hopeful there. I've called everyone I can think of for donations and have a few promises. And now we're begging you, the people reading this LJ. Can you spare anything, even just $5? It will add up. The two males will cost us $40 each, and the three females just $70 each, so we need just $290 to save them. Under $300 to save five lives!!!!!

The entire entry is here, and the Paypal address to donate is empressjad@aol.com . I couldn't really afford to give anything, but I coughed up ten bucks and a hairball. I hope you will, too. (Well, you can skip the hairball if you like.)

7/28/08 06:06 pm - THANK YOU ALL SOOOOO MUCH!!!!
I can't even begin to express how grateful we are to all of you who so generously donated to our emergency cat situation. Thanks to you, and several local people here, we *did* reach our goal, and the last of the kitties will live!! They will also receive their rabies vaccination, and then will be transported to a couple of excellent foster homes we've arranged. We've bought them enough time for us to find them forever homes...and we will. Wee have an extraordinary record finding good homes for feral/stray/abandoned kitties in the area. In the past 18-20 months, we've placed over 185 cats and kittens. Not bad for just the two of us, huh?
I've been gone all day, doing kitty-business, and when I left this morning, the wonderful [info]anmorata had started the ball rolling. When I returned just a few minutes ago, I was in tears to see how so many other fabulous people had joined in the fund. Just knowing that so many of you care so much these cats that you've never even heard of, is beyond touching. I know there's a real strain on everyone's finances at the moment, and that makes your generosity mean even more.
I was at a loss as to how I was going to live with the fact that we had to leave some of these cats to die. I just couldn't do it. Still, we were absolutely tapped out with the last batch of kitties we had fixed, plus the miscellaneous vet bills from the flood kitties.
From the bottom of all our little kitty hearts, we thank you.
Stay tuned for pix of the grateful felines who are alive because *YOU* cared.
Current Music: *lots* of meowing

it just makes me happy to read this!:)
