Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. died Wednesday at age 84, apparrently as a result of brain injuries suffered in a fall at home. He was a genius and an inspiration.

So it goes...

This is a great loss.

Good night, Kurt. Thanks for the stories. Good and bad, funny and sad.

Damn shame. Helluva writer. Check out "Breakfast of Champions" if you haven't read it before. Weird wild stuff.

I am sitting at my computer crying.
Vonnegut is one of my all time favorite authors ..The world is much darker place without him.

"We probably could have saved ourselves, but we were too damned lazy to try very hard... and too damn cheap," he once suggested carving into a wall on the Grand Canyon, as a message for flying-saucer creatures

That's how I felt about Hunter Thompson. I feel your pain. I never read anything by Vonnegut that I didn't like.

I just read A Man without a Country' - in which Vonnegut says, "(If I die — God forbid — I would like to go to heaven to ask somebody in charge up there, Hey, what was the good news and what was the bad news?)"

Good or bad, I have enjoyed reading this man's work for many years. Thank you sir, may you be at peace.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

There will never be another like him. I've read nearly every one of his books, several of them many times, and will do so again.

God Bless You, Mr. Vonnegut.

Amazing writer and an amazing man. I read Slaughterhouse Five in the 9th grade, and I've been in love ever since. All of his books are definitely worth a read. I'd also suggest Welcome To The Monkeyhouse, one of his short story collections.

A great loss, but may his words live on long after everyone here has crumbled to dust.

Condolences to his friends and family.

Gonna bump this back up. I just found an obituary piece on Huffington.Post.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/huffpost/20070414/cm_huffpost/
045834;_ylt=As1uBAePsrqycoCr3GxxVNQd6sgF

quotes from Vonnegut's last public speaking appearance. He spoke out, predictably, against the Iraq War and President Bush.

If you're a leftie, his words will inspire as they always did.

My introduction to his works came relatively late...Galapagos in about '87 (published in '85, I believe), but then I went after more of his writings. Great author, and very hard to put his books down. Great loss.
