Heya to one and all!

For all you Terry Pratchett fans out there, and i know we have a few...it is exactly two weeks until my faithful sidekick BernardBrowncoat and I go to the first ever Australian Discworld Convention in Melbourne.

WOOOOOOOOOHHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

YAY! we are extremely excited and can't wait to get on that plane! Three whole days of all things Discworld....and much, much drinking!!

We will actually be able to spend time with people just as nerdy/nerdier than us, which will be interesting, and get to chat with the GOD himself and do heaps of nerdy fun stuff.

Also, apart from the mindblowing coolness of the convention, we get to meet the one and only Magda from fff.net, possibly the sweetest person in the entire world.

I have loved Terry Pratchett ever since i was about 11 and found a copy of Truckers in my primary school library. It completely blew me away and i have read everything of his ever since. Now, at 22, i have all of his novels, maps, a cookbook, almanacks, trivia books, reference books, art portfolios, calendars etc etc.
I have initated various friends (who i feel are worthy) to the Discworld and all have loved it.

Anyway, i just wanted to put this up so that other fans could (if they wanted to) put up comments, suggestions for the convention, favourite quotes, characters, Terry experiences etc. or whatever!

Stay tuned, cause after the Con BB and I will put up photos and a running comentary of the weekend.

Love to all in the fff.net family,
SK.

That's not the same Discworld that was on the Playstation 1 about 10 or 12 years ago, was it?

I just modded my xBox and I was playing it on there the other day. Fun game. Ahhhhh.... memories.

Probably. There was a Discworld game out years back, I remember playing it on the PC.

Yep... there it is, under computer games. Eric Idle was great in that. I had no idea that Discworld was so huge.

Holy Conventions Batman! i mean...um...damn it when did i end us as robin?!? well, you are the DW master.
morning coats!
i meet the holy Terry a few years ago with SK when i was just getting into Discworld. i was wearing my Red Dwarf t-shirt and Terry called me a "smeg head" and i got to quote him some back! bliss!!
got some books for him to sign, working on a cool costume (any excuse to dress up)
hey SK, 11 days!!!

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Heya 6ixStringJack and Citizen!
i didn't even know it was a computer game! which books was it based on, do you know? or, which characters are in it?
Computer discworld would be so funny!!
Terry Pratchett has been writing Discworld since some time in the 80's, so it's had a while to get huge.
but, yeah, Discworld has it's very own (very huge) community out there (we could probably colonise our own country if we wanted to)
....and the good thing is the people in charge of the merchandise stuff knows that we are willing to buy anything and everything that can be in some way connected to Discworld, so there HEAPS of stuff you can get...unlike a certain tv show....

hehehehe...heya BB! ahem, do you see me being robin?!

I think he doesn't do that much traveling,
I heard he might do a convention in the USA...
but at least I finally got to meet him when he came to the Bay area:

BTW Terry Pratchett isn't GOD
(obviously JOSS is GOD!)
but he is definitely very shiny, and I love him lots!

Hey, Embers! I had so hoped to go to that signing. I'm glad you got to.

A Discworld convention would be a blast. I am jealous.

There is room for many gods on the Discworld, so Joss and Terry are there together. They are probably playing dice with our (entertainment) futures as we write.

I'm sorry you weren't there...
he was very funny.
I would totally go to a convention
(besides I want to buy some fan stuff...)
BTW did you notice my shirt design?

Um... I read Good Omens.

He co-wrote that (with my literary God, Neil Gaiman).

"I thoroughly disapprove of duels. If a man should challenge me, I would take him kindly and forgivingly by the hand and lead him to a quiet place and kill him."

(Goes back and takes a better look at the picture) GREEBO! I love Greebo too in all his forms. Did he notice it?

I just read Good Omens for the first time. It is brilliant.

yes, TP laughed about it... he asked me if I was one of those women who ... and then I didn't get what he asked!
I said that like Granny Weatherwax, I would be kind of appalled if I actually met Greebo,
but TP seemed to think that Granny would just be above it all.
It was hard to say anything much since there was a long line in a noisy room...

It was just so cool to get to meet him!

I believe alt.fan.pratchett has created a virtual nation somewhere.

Been a while since I peeked in on them.

Pratchett's take on gods (and Gods) is one of my favorites.
I would say he compares favorably to them but is much more inventive.

Hello!!

yes, well i didn't say Terry was THE ONLY God, just that he is MY personal favourite God!

I got to meet him at a signing here in Sydney a couple of years ago..for the release of Going Postal...and he laughed at my name (prudence) cause he always says its funny that ppl name their kids after virtues...i mainly just stuttered and drooled...

I LOVE Greebo! hehehe, he's such the best cat ever.
i'm trying to convince BB to go the gala dinner as human Greebo! (he could totally pull it off)

Good Omens is also one of my favourite books of all time. the pairing of Neil Gaimen and Terry was so incredibly briliant! that book ROCKS! i love Neil's other work as well...very interesting.
