Hey All

Since I'm in somewhat a Christmas mood, I was wondering something. There are Chrsitmas specials, and then there are Christmas movies shown annually on tv. But what about Christmas episodes. You know, the episodes on normal TV shows that take place around Christmas that's normally the last ep shown before the new year. I was just wondering what some of your favorite Christmas episodes are. Here are some of mine.

THE TWILIGHT ZONE - "NIGHT OF THE MEEK": This was an ep from the original Twilight Zone that had Art Carney as this drunk and dejected department store Santa that stumbles upon a bag of tin cans that turns into a bag of gifts. Both funny, sad, and magical at the same time.

FUTURAMA - Both X-Mas episodes. The two X-mas shows they did were two of the best episodes they ever did. The first one was both a touching development of Fry and Leela's relationship as two loners in the future coming together as well as an insanely twisted send-up of Christmas in the future with too many moments to mention. One of my favorites was "I need to find a gift for some who I like, but she thinks I'm a jerk. Can you help me?";"Yeah, there's a suicide booth in the food court. Although there's normally a line this time of year." And the latter was pretty funny as well as you see the elves in Pluto live in poverty. "Hey, it's food or shelter, not both." Both my tag and sig are quote from both episodes.

JUSTICE LEAGUE - "COMFORT AND JOY" This I recently discovered as I make my way through all five seasons of JUSTICE LEAGUE (UNLIMITED). All three sub-plots of the members over the holidays were great. Martian Manhuner coming home with Clark in Smallville was funny and poignant ("Kitty."), and seeing Hawkgirl and Green Lantern celebrate the holidays by fighting (first with snow and then with aliens in an intergalactic bar) was cool. But my fave was seeing The Flash trying to get a toy for the kids and getting a temporary truce with Ultra-Humanite in the process. And that last bit Ultra-Humanite in his cell with an aluminum tree and that gel light thingy was just beautiful.

THE OFFICE - "Christmas Party" I can't wait to see the upcoming hour long Xmas episode that's supposed to be directed by Harold Ramis, but the first Xmas ep THE OFFICE did was one of the best episodes of the second season, since it really shows how awful the season can be at times. "Well, Happy Birthday, Jesus. Sorry your party was so lame."

STUDIO 60 ON THE SUNSET STRIP - "The Christmas Show" This is the most recent Christmas ep that I really enjoyed. A very strong episode that ended with these jazz musicians from New Orleans playing "O Holy Night" and Danny declaring his love to Jordan. And I'd have a link for the last few minutes of it off of YouTube, but it's been taken down for copyright reasons, I think. But if you've seen it, you know it was one fo the sweetest moments the show has ever made.

And for small shout outs, "Merry Christmas, Mrs. Moskowitz" from FRASIER (where the Cranes have to pretend they're Jewish for Frasier's girlfriends Mom), and to the Christmas ep of CORNER GAS, which nails perfectly the fiscal mentality of some prairie people around the holidays ("Oh you're not poor. You're CHEAP!!").

So what are some of your favorite Christmas episodes?

SINGATE

Good call on the Futurama episodes. I really enjoyed the X-mas theme because of that wacked out robot santa.

"Time to see who's been naughty and who's been NAUGHTY."

"The box may be empty but the message is clear, play santa again and I'll kill you next year."

As a huge fan of Married with Children I would be remiss in not mentioning the Christmas episode where Sam Kinison was appointed as Al's guardian angel. A spin on It's a Wonderful Life but a little more fun to watch.

TRAVELER

I would not say it was my favorite, but have you seen the Christmas episode in "Invader Zim".
I think it is one of the better episodes in this series. Zim really outdoes himself in this one.

The Buffy episode "Amends" has joined "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" on my must-see holiday viewing list.
