One thing I really liked in the FF series was Josh's slight hint of Jayne having a secret crush on Kaylee. With him picken at her and in Trash where Jayne lights up with pride on Kaylee's brilliant idea of getting the Lassiter out. It reminds me of the Duke's crush on Vera Miles even though her heart is to Jimmy Stewart in the Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. This show just had great writing Thanks JW.

What? No. We don't believe that. We don't, do we?

One of my fave relationships. I also think he's especially hard on Simon because kaylee so obviously has a crush on him. I'm not suggesting that there aren't other things about Simon that would not lead to him picking on the good doctor, just that this aggravates him even more. The look he gives them in the pilot when Kaylee's fauning over Simon at the dinnertable is priceless. "Kaylee's just wishin' he was a gynocologist..." (Inaccurate quote)

I always kind of got the impression that he was pickin on Simon in the way that an older brother would pick on a new boyfriend.

From such and overtly sexual character, if he fancied Kaylee himself it would have manifested in different ways - i get more of an impression that he loves her to bits but not in a crush way.

But meh, who am I to say that a million Jaylee-ers are wrong?

I have to agree with the people above. Jayne's letter from home in The Message suggests that, while he's not a generally kind or helpful person, he does care about family. His relationship with Kaylee seems to be more of a protective sibling-esque relationship than anything else.

Like they said, if Jayne was interested, he would act more openly on his impulses. Jayne is not subtle in any way, hence his love for grenades, the least subtle weapon of all.

Of course, we'd be able to judge better if we saw some more of the Cobb family in the show or something.

There's two kinds of people in this world: those with loaded guns, and those who dig.
Now DIG.

It takes all kinds to make the world go ‘round. Unfortunately, some are pedaling in the wrong direction...

I'm rather on the fence here, folks. When you mentioned a possible crush, I almost found myself agreeing. Everyone remember in the pilot episode "Serenity" when Kaylee's been shot by Dobson? Of course you do and I don't mean to insult anyone. I enjoyed Jayne's statements to Book.

"Step aside, Preacher."

"You're not killing this man."

"Not right away."

And then, of course, the way Jayne crouches on the deck, watching shakily as Simon works feverishly on Kaylee. I got a hint of something from both of those scenes. A protectiveness on Jayne's part, and perhaps something else. I'm probably stating the obvious, but, "well, I'm known for that."

"Pain is scary."

I'm in more of the Jayne as big-brother camp where it comes to Kaylee. Consider his... subtle approach to Yo-Saph-Bridge... "Can I know her...?" Or his behavior in the Heart of Gold, "Can we start getting sexed now, or what?"

Jayne doesn't seem the sort to show much restraint when it comes to that sort of relationship, to me...

I'm a firm believer in the good ship Jaylee - they are perfect for each other!

"Suspicious? What month is it?"

sex and relationships are two totally different things. but.. i can see how it could be a big brother love.. instead of a crush.

We all know middle-aged men just love those teens, in fantasy-land anyhow.

What if Jayne's interest in Kaylee isn't brotherly OR purely sexual. What if he has deeper feelings he's not used to and cant express well? What if he's in love?

Ok, good point Mr C Cobb.

Actually, on that fantasy-wishlist-that-pretends-the-show-never-got-cancelled one of the wishes near the top (after 'More about Book' and 'Way more Yo-saff-bridge') was 'Jayne falling in love'

How would that work? 'specially post film now that Simon and Kaylee are at it all over the ship.

Thats one mightily put out man with a very big gun...

Its in the script in the script, I wanted a serial killer after Inara and our BDH save the day. Hookers and waitresses always have perps after em. Mal is the big brother but I thinks Jayne at first but Kaylee is his type for settling down a prairrie harp and he would think along those terms. But he will still look out for her and pick at too.

Here little crazy person where going for a long shuttle ride.

I have to agree with the above peoples who cite a more brotherly sisterly relationship. Well, to be a little more precise. I think that Jayne cares about Kaylee. I dunno how brotherly he feels towards her, when he wants to hear more about her 'mechanical adventures' in the BDM. I feel that he doesn't want to jump her bones, but he wouldn't mind if he did. I doubt he's in any rush to 'steal' her away from the Doc. However, he does care about her. I think more than anybody else on the boat.

I'm completely on the Jaylee band wagon. For anyone with doubts just read some Jaylee fanfic and you will be converted!! There are some shiny concepts in there, and I'm guessing some of us will have to go have cold showers.

Mal gives control of the ship to Zoe...
Mal: If I'm not back in an hour, you come, and you rescue me.
Zoe: What? And risk my ship?
