Actually, I'm quite a trusting person and usually give everyone the benefit of the doubt until they prove themselves un-trustworthy. That was many, many years ago and far, far away from where I am now anyway.

Can you imagine his reaction if he knew everything about me? Bwahahahahahahaha!

yeah I had a friend (a huge Buffy fan) who ended up scaring away a new guy when he found out her email address was 'vampiregirl'
of course if the guy is THAT faint of heart then it is better to know right away, before he finds out that she writes x-rated fan fic based on Harry Potter characters.
LOL

That is the advantage of finding friends here at fff, we all already know there is that freaky side going on!

Hey, it's National Singles Week! Who'da thunk it??

Wish I could toss in a story about a lousy date, but the actual dates that I've been on could be counted on one hand. Nothing really worth mentioning. The last girl I met who even came close to the possibility of becoming a significant other, in fact she broke it up inside of three weeks because I have zip experience. Go figure.....that's why I duly thank Arcadia for this sig image.

Welcome to the site, Kinghendrick, RedLave, and StoryMark.

RedLava, I was born and raised in Omaha. I hope you brought along a lot of red clothes when you moved to Cornhusker Country. I did leave the land of football for a warmer climate as soon as I could. I'm one of the few Nebraskans who doesn't worship at the alter of Memorial Stadium at Lincoln. (Does anyone have an emoticon throwing a little football?)

Steamer, Steamer, Steamer. Any chance of getting just a little optimism? If it's National Singles Week, try smiling and saying "Hi" to every girl you meet. There's got to be a bubbly Kaylee that's too shy to make herself known to you, or a graceful River that is quiet and reserved. They might not look like them, but they could be just what you're looking for if you try to get to know them. It is a cool signature banner that you have. Mal's words are true we die alone, but that doesn't mean you have to live alone. Good Luck this week!

Oh, believe me, I'm trying to cling to even the dimmest glimmer of optimism I can spot, that's why I'm in here to begin with. Sorry to say, however, that bitterness has reigned within my ticker for a very, very long time - that's part of why I'm a Mal clone. You've had your experience, I've had mine; it is what it is. Pretty much every girl I ever got interested in was too gorram busy either thinking about herself or trying to make me change. With about three billion of them roaming the Earth-that-will-have-been, you'd think at least a handful of them wouldn't be that way, but when it happens every time... *shrugs* Makes me feel like doing an Everly Brothers number.

Thanks, PaganPaul, I love it, too! The credit goes to Desktophippie. She created it for me. It is my favorite scene.

Steamer,
You're right. I see the glass half full, and you see it half empty. "It is what it is." Although don't be deluded to think that I haven't had bad relationships.

It's just that from your posts, it seems like you might be attracted to the good looking superficial girls. Sorry if I'm wrong. I was just suggesting that there might be a girl that you're not instantly attracted to that might be really nice and maybe perfect for you once you get to know her.

Well, I am single, 24 year old female in the Atlanta area. I like being single, and in my entire life I have never actively sought out a relationship. But I would like to meet some browncoats nearby and figured this would be one method of saying so/conveying the message.

I would never admit this to people I know, but I will now confide that I would so love to give in to my romantic side. Alas, I await a reticent, brilliant, sarcastic Simon to sweet me off my feet.

I'm very smart.

Here's a question for everyone. What first attracts you to a man or woman? I'll go first. Hands, strong manly hands are what I notice first. (When I'm with my friends, I might be a little more honest, and confide that I love thighs. )

G'morning all,

Marina, Washington, DC to Atlanta, GA is only 638.3 miles. I could be there in 9 hours 53 mins. There was a "Which Firefly Character Are You?" quiz a while back and I scored 100% Simon (but I also got 37% Reaver, so go figure?).

Does anyone still have a link to that quiz?

The first thing I notice about a woman is her energy. Don't get me wrong; I don't see auras or anything like that, but I can ABSOLUTELY tell a good woman instantly. Physically, I tend to notice eyes the most, but I do have to admit to being a leg man also.

Where were all the single men at S3 sweetie?

You could have pointed them out at the time!

There was an above average level of cute there though. Many man very scenic guys in tightpants.
I so think that website is going to happen (Remeber Mai took photo's? we were going to put them on a site dedicated to Browncoat bums - or Thank the Gods for the Gift of Tightpants)

But don't reccomend they hang out at the bar wearing a sari, those bartenders were sweeties, but i don't think i or anyone could have spent the night fielding requests for their room number as gracefully as you did.

The Firefly Personality Test was awesome. Just as I suspected, I am 82% Jayne. ahahahhahaha. The only difference between me and him is I won't turn my friends over for a profit. I have the only friends motto you can have:

"Friends stab Friends in the front."

Its kind of like when Mal tells Simon that, "If I'm going to kill you, you will be standing in front of me, armed."

As for more of me, I'm 26 live in Washington St and I teach people how to retire. So if you love firefly, love NASCAR, love going to the movies, and hate drama (high school type of drama) then maybe I'm for you and if not, that doesn't mean we can't be friends.

I don't think the Emoticons are too silly for a "Jayne-type" of guy. Jayne's the walking version of a big-dumb Labrador Retriever that carries a ton of guns, looks for profit in everything, and when presented with a fight, will not back down.

Eventhough, he is smart at times...well...only when he needs to be.

Well I'm a 54 year old male with many interests.
Shakespeare to Harleys and everything in between.
I have lived in the Milwaukee area since 1966.
No terrible dates to mention. Some disappointing ones, but I'm sure we all share those. Had one love in my life that only lasted a short while, otherwise I've been a single person most of my life.

I'm romantic, so any woman would expect flowers and serenades, I can't sing worth a damn, when they least expect it. If my singing bothers you, you may cover my mouth and stop me.

Oh why thank you, I've enjoyed reading your posts too.

Sadly i need someone technically brained to do the actually site building, seeing as i don't have the first clue.
But we were joking about doing it as one of those 'Rate my Kitten' type things.

Terribly crass and sexist, but my, wouldn't time wasting just become so fab?

Ah well.

I should post an ad, seeing as i'm single, but sadly it would only read something like

@absolutely wonderful browncoat female, 25, into most stuff, avid reader and appreciater of all things cool and pretty (and shiny!)Great catch, even if not really domesticated (recently mastered cheese on toast)
Sadly stuck fast in the arse-end of nowhere, interested people should be willing to travel quite a lot, or marry me to get me out of this hell hole.

I'm a human being! get me out of here!

Its not really attractive is it?

He he.

Tobedog - you wouldn't happen to be the guy we met at D*C near the SEBC table in the marriot would you? or am i barking up the wrong tree? Had a really good Jayne get up (doesn't seem right callin it a costume) and a near perfect I-just-gave-myself-a-wax-with-bandaging-tape grimace.
No idea why i think it might be you, just a strange feeling, but if it was you, you were cute, ever been to the arse end of nowhere before?

A good buddy of mine turned me onto Serenity about 6 months back when it got released on DVD. A few weeks went by and I found Firefly and watched the whole series. Been a fan ever since. Its funny though, because I remember seeing bits and pieces of the show when it was on TV but it was hard to get into and follow without seeing the episodes before.

Well, I won't deny there was a period when I felt like I'd just take what I could get. Of that feeling came the one true relationship I ever had, which ended miserably. Fell too hard, you might say. Go-se happens. And it makes me bitter. And ornery. As in then I don't want to get into that grief again and then I go 'wtf?' about what I really do want and then bury myself in work so I don't have to think about it. Ta ma de.

So, what first attracts me to a woman? Based on experience (or lack thereof) I'm still finding out. A great pair of eyes and a kindness and sincerity that are self-evident, though - very, very good signs.

Verseexplorer...just let me know when and where to post.

Marina, glad to make your acquaintance. No, three hours is not, in fact, that far at all.

Steamer, I am sort of in your shoes right now. A relationship I thought was "it" turned out not to be. Not too much of a surprise, after all, but still nasty to be dealing with in general. I have a feeling I will also be burying myself in work and projects for awhile...not sure I want to get back into the "serious" world of dating.

First attraction to a woman....guess I missed that...the eyes. Then the lips. If there is a twinkle in the eyes and a smile on the lips, then I know she is a happy person.

76% River - Marina
82% Jayne - ToBeDog
94% Mal - Tristan
66% Kaylee - VerseExplorer
100% Simon - PaganPaul
37% Reaver - PaganPaul

Anyone else take the quiz, so that we can get a full crew?

Traveler,
Welcome to the site! Flowers and serenades sound great. Although, if you can't sing, it might take a little bit away from the romantic moment. Or is it just a little bad to bring a smile to a woman's face because it's sweet and endearing?

Seryn:
The Browncoat Bums (Thank God for the Gift of Tight Pants) site is such a great idea. We need to actively search for that technically brained person to help set it up. Is there a Geek.com?

Tristan:
I think it would be best if you e-mail the pics to me personally, so that I could determine if they would be appropriate to post on a site. I've got a folder already set aside for it - "Shiny bums." It sounds so elegant with a British accent.

Magdalena:
We wish you were here. I still think we should start saving our nickels and pennies to save up for a trip to visit you on the 2nd 'Versary. For right now, you will be the first to know if we get the Browncoat Bums up and running.

hehehe...i took that quiz and i'm 67% Jayne!
...don't know where that side of me came from

i have to agree with others in saying nice eyes and smile are important factors of attraction for me...among other parts of anatomy...
but phsycial stuff isn't really that important, personality is WAY more important. if someone has a great personality, thats the most attractive thing

Shinykitten:

Greetings!

Agreed that personality is important but if your not attracted physically then I don't see it working out in the long run. With that said, don't dwell on the imperfections either. I'd write down the Top 10 things I like best about my girlfriend and read those things everyday with my goals and dreams. That way, all I see are the best things.

It was not my attempt to call you a dog. It was my attempt for you to say that I was cute. Which you did without seeing a picture of course. As for the fight, it might work but theres a problem. We'd start and would be rolling around, your on top, then i'm on top, your on top, i'm back on top, ending with you on top. It might lead to something other than a fight. Next thing you know where casually seeing each other then things get serious, and some point in time, you would call me a pig, throw stuff, and kick me out. Who wants to go through all that. Lets just say, "YOU WIN!"

VERSEEXPLORER

ShinyKitten,
Welcome back. I was wondering were you had wondered off to. You're 67% Jayne. That is a hoot!

Desktophippie,
Nice to have you stop by. Now don't run off looking for new recruits just yet. It would be nice to have more Irish Browncoats, but as the old song goes, "Love the one you're with." We can adapt that to "Chat with the ones on the thread."

Well, okay then. The recruitment didn't go so well anyhow. People looked at me strange.

Did the quiz - I'm 80% Kaylee! I love the character, but I didn't think I'd be that much like her!

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I am 76% Zoe. She's nice and well-rounded as a character and a woman. And also a bad-ass. Shiny!

Now I just need to find my Wash.

Yes, VerseExplorer's signature is excellent, isn't it? It must have been created by someone with spectacular animations skills. And a great sense of humour. And a sparkling personality.

And I bet she's pretty too.

EDIT: Gorramit, VerseExplorer! You switched sigs! I thought you still had the one I made!!!

*sigh* Another perfectly good joke wasted. Oh well, PhoenixRose's is more up to date. And prettier!

Ummmm... I never retook that test, nor posted that I had. Is someone else posting as me again? I hate it when my evil twin gets on and stirs up trouble!

Maybe I will retake it just to see how it comes out now...

Small verse indeed! I actually go to Emory University in Atlanta, and Trinity in Dublin next year, but I spent my high school years in Durham and took classes at UNH all through 1999 and 2000 - so we were there at the same time :) Where are you now??

I'm very smart.
