As the first 3 of these threads approach 200 posts, I've created a forth to reduce load times and attempt to summerize some of the information released in the first three threads.

Dragon*Con takes place in Atlanta, Georgia US on Sept 1-4. Current Firefly/Serenity Guests include Summer Glau, Adam Baldwin, and Alan Tudyk. There is of course more time for others to sign up, and as always, there's the potential for some to have things come up that require them to back out. A complete list of guests from other potential Sci-Fi/Fantasy interests and details on the Convention can be found here: www.Dragoncon.org

Sept 1-4 is a Fri-Mon con. Many of us plan to file in on thursday to secure event passes and rooms and begin sharing our time and getting to know our fellow Browncoats. We aim to misbehave.

The Hyatt is more or less the main hotel up front on the main street where the parade will be. Marriott is Directly behind it. Police tend to moitor and direct trafic for us at the area between for easy crossing of the street. there's also a connecting hamster tunnel over the street. The Hilton is directly behind the Marriott and is the main hotel for Gamers. I believe the main site www.dragoncon.org states the games(Role Playing/Collectable Card Games) will be there this year. Westin and Days Inn are about a block each from the Hyatt in different Directions. so it looks something like this:
Hilton
Marriott
.
Hyatt............Westin
.
.
.
.
.
Days Inn
There's a reasonably priced diner at the Days Inn and 'Beverage' shop between the Hyatt and Days Inn.

Marriot Goes 100 percent smoke-free, beginning in September.

Since we're continuing from the previous thread, let me reiterate that Buffy Prom is NOT a mandatory dressy affair. I was there last year in jeans. No, cords. And sneakers. Not dressy at all. There were some people in prom outfits. One couple had these swell rockabilly outfits on and were jumpin' and jivin' away. And there were a few people dressed as faeries and goth and whatever that had, like me, wandered in off the streets.

So, stop stressing about what to wear! If you wanna get all prettified, then so be it. If you can't bear the thought, then don't bear it.

Lissa: I can't wait to see the dress with all the stuff hanging off of it.

i'd like to get a general idea of what the hidey tower/loafer/serenitree crowd is planning on doing for that, so I can decide what to wear. I'm not stressing, just want to generally fit in with my "crew"

my current take on the input I've received is that most prefer to not dress up for it, unless we go as pirates. I think we were planning pirates for Friday, but we can shift that to saturday(if that's when the prom thing is)if everyone wants to pirate prom the night. could be highly entertaining. we can Sereni-Tree friday...

Now the problem is finding one of those corsages things (tracking device optional) that goes with my pirates outfit....

On a slightly different note, i need anopther list of British sweets (candy) that you folks want me to bring, and anything else that you want.

Oh..I don't want to switch Pirate Day! *pout* Saturday is parade day, don't forget, so most of us will be all paradey all day.

I don't see why we can't just change back into whatever for prom. The website says it's at 10pm on Saturday. Just a thought, is all.

Well, Sounds like we'll stick to pirates on friday. As the prom is an evening thing we'll have a chance to get cleaned up first, and dress however you like. I only have the one pirate costume, so I'll likely just do regular dress. there is no dress code, so go as you like. My wear will depend a great deal on the temps.
I'm not parading.

What size do you wear? You can email me at lillichc@juno.com if you don't want to post it on the site and I could bring some extra stuff with me. I'm going up on Wednesday, staying with my brother and volunteering which sort of cut my costs for D*C.
Warning here: I've decided to 'channel' for Audrey Hepburn but I've got an extra Barbie 'Moonlight Serenade' outfit I'll be happy to lend. Just let me know.

Are there plans for a Browncoat / FFF.net gathering of some sort at D*C?

There was the Shindig last year, but it being loud and me being timid, I lurked in corners and met no one.

Kitten,
As far as I know there are no specific plans for a large scale browncoat event other than the Panels for the cast. There's also the browncoat table where you can meet random other browncoats from this and other boards. Since there is no shindig planned, we may go tho the Buffy prom on Sat.

Kitten,

The Con Suite is hosting a Wash Wake this year. It will be Sat. from 6-9pm, before the Buffy prom and the Signal podcast. It's an open event with free food, good company, and perhaps a fun little contest or two. It will be much more low key and less loud than last year's Shindig, so a better opportunity to be able to meet people. Plus you should be able to hear eachother this year

I feel really stupid, but I can't wait to meet some more Browncoats!!!!! For the first time since last December when I saw all episodes and the BDM, I'll actually meet people, in person, who get why I'm so excited about the 'Verse. I know it sounds corny but seeing the show gave me a reason to go on. My best friend of 34 years died last December and I was lost and rudderless. We spoke several times a week even though we lived a time zone away. I had to notify his family. I couldn't bear it. After a few days I quit my job - they sent me home from work and said come back in two weeks and if I still wanted to quit, do it then. For two weeks I watched the show (my brother sent me the boxed set of the show) after watching the first episode I went out and bought the movie and watched it after I watched all of it every moment I was awake for the full two weeks. While I didn't fight and lose a war, I had lost almost all that was important to me: like the Captain. And then I realized once that happens, you can either lay down and die or go on. Stupid to get it out of TV show but there you have it. You can talk about great characters (which it has), you can talk about excellent writing and concept (which it also has), perfect casting and cast chemistry (yeah it has that too), but mostly I got a reason to go on. It will be wonderful to meet others who get it too. I sure want more. Weird that I was at Dragon*Con last year even was at the Firefly/Serenity panel (even sat next to Jewel Straite's table at brunch one day) and didn't realize how lucky I was. This year I'll know how lucky I was.

I don't know, but someone did say that there wasn't a strict dress code...so, sure. I'd say "whatever knocks your socks off"...but that would be just a Wee Bit Too Clever.

When people gape at you with outrage, just tell them you're with the band and the school color is "clear".

Tempest, as an adorer of Audrey Hepburn, I must ask which outfit you are planning on wearing...if you don't mind?

Hell's Kitten, I think the whole thing is going to be one big Shindig...oh, yeah, and there are supposed to be non-Browncoats there, too.

Also, as we are now getting closer to D-Day, I post this for all of us with projects still to do:

You aren't alone with projects still to do...
I'm wearing hair up in french knot, white gloves over the elbow, black velvet-fitted and straight line with spaghetti straps. Still working on the jewelry end with possible scarf. As to projects, I'm working on Browncoat, Firefly, Serenity alphabet attachments to lanyards, pins, and maybe earrings which if I'm lucky, I'll be able to get the SE Browncoats to provide at the fan table for either free or under a $1. We shall see. I'm also working on a quilt that maybe be good enough for the charity auction, so like most staying busy because I can't wait!!!!

What are you wearing and are you going to the Wash Wake?

Wow. I will be looking forward to seeing that outfit!
Seems we all have tons of things to keep us busy until then.

For costumes, I have Mal's red-shirt outfit, Dread Pirate Roberts, and a Rohan-esque armor to match the wife's full armor. I am going to try to be at the Wash-wake, and I am pretty sure the wife will be coming with me to the Buffy Prom. I don't really have an agenda for the weekend (save the parade) as this is the first time I have attended a D*C...I'm just looking forward to meeting all the Browncoats!

What would y’all say to an early bird trivia contest at D*C? Thursday, August 31st, 9pm, the fan table area. We figure we can reserve the table and have some fun too. There will be prizes, an SEBC prize pack, and we’ll see what else I can scrounge up.

So pick up your badge, grab a bite to eat, load up your flasks (Please remember that public drunkenness is against the law in GA. If you enjoy, enjoy responsibly ) and come sit a spell and wow your friends and neighbors with your knowledge of the minutia of the Serenifly ‘verse.

If you want to go but still haven't registered, the TrekTrak still needs volunteers so I'm copying the email I just got in case anyone is interested. They make a real effort to schedule you around the traks you want to attend so...

TrekTrak --- the Dragon*Con track of programming devoted to Star Trek ---
still needs two volunteers to serve on its staff at this year's convention.

TrekTrak staff volunteers receive a free full four-day membership to the
convention (currently an $85 value), the opportunity to work with or around
Dragon*Con's celebrity Star Trek guests (escorting them to and from the Walk of

Fame and/or in or out of the programming room as needed, the opportunity to
have a photo taken with them, etc.), a ticket to Dragon*Con's legendary Dead
Dog
Party, and a personalized full-color Certificate of Appreciation (suitable
for framing). And, as it says on the Dragon*Con web site, "working staff
can
be an incredibly rewarding experience; that warm glow of teamwork and
accomplishment that comes with a successful year will last long after the
convention ends. And end it must.... but you'll be richer and wiser for
it."

Eligibility and duty requirements are somewhat greater for TrekTrak staff
than most other Dragon*Con departments. Persons interested in serving as a
TrekTrak staff volunteer:

* must be at least 21 years old; non-smoker preferred
* should be familiar with the Star Trek franchise and possess a competency
and appreciation of TrekTrak programming topics and participants
* must be willing to serve a minimum of two (2) four-hour duty shifts as
needed each day of the convention, Friday through Monday inclusive, including

breakdown and loadup of the programming room on Monday afternoon
* should be able to apply common sense solutions to simple problems and
know when to bring important problems or issues to the Director's attention
* should be able to follow simple instructions and be trusted to carry them
out without micromanagement
* should have a basic understanding of how to operate common audio/visual
and computer equipment, such as VCR and DVD players, camcorders, digital
cameras, etc.
* should have experience in, be comfortable with and can be trusted
handling money
* must be willing to purchase an embroidered TrekTrak staff shirt and abide
by the TrekTrak dress code while on duty
* should have secured accommodations during the convention (e.g., your own
hotel room or local sleeping arrangements)

If you or someone you know is a Star Trek fan interested in serving on this
year's TrekTrak staff at Dragon*Con and meets the eligibility requirements
above, or if you have any questions, please send your name and phone number via

email to TrekTrak programming director Eric L. Watts at _TrekTrak@aol.com_
(mailto:TrekTrak@aol.com) .

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Trivia contest sounds like fun.

I'll be attending Dragon Con too. I've been fortunate enough to catch the previous years' panels, and I hope to see more browncoats this year. I'm a horrible lurker on this board, but, I want to check out some of the browncoats shindiggery in person.

I'm local too, so if anyone has questions about Atlanta, I might be able to act like I know what's going on.

I submitted my e-mail saying that I wanted to participate in the parade so that I can join in on the fun.

I finished the pants and hat that I am going to wear and now just need to really work on finding a shirt/jacket, a decent mug, and shoes. Plus I need to make the mudders milk (without using milk if possible).

There were muddersmilk recipies floating around somewhere in the 'verse. I bet if you google searched you'd find some.

Do you realize how hard it will be to march in a straight line if we hit the Mudder's Milk before the parade?!? ...although, it would be kinda funny...might could help us bolster our confidence so we can ambush the 501st...

I think that would be an excellent idea! We can put our names on the cups and everything.

I love this idea. I want a mug and Mudders Milk. I guess that's one way to cope with the heat...
