I’m sure by now everyone is wondering what exactly happened yesterday. So, here it goes….

My husband Ry was meeting a man from a satellite cable company about getting a job with them. He met the man, Cory, at a pizza place just across the street from the back side of our house. They met, talked and Ry got interviewed by Cory. Afterward, Cory asked Ry is he knew a place where he could buy some tools. Cory was hauling a company truck on a car towing trailer that only two wheels go onto. He was hauling it from Waterloo to Des Moines. Since our town was on the way, the company had him stop to interview Ry.

Ry offered to let Cory use his tools since we lived so close. Cory pulled his truck and the trailered truck onto the street in front of our house. The ranger that he was hauling was on the tow trailer by its back wheels. He unhooked it and pulled it off the trailer. He turned the ranger around and put it back on the trailer by its front tires. He had wanted the tools to unhook the drive shaft from the vehicle. Ry though he had put the parking break on, but either he hadn’t, or it didn’t work. Cory also had neglected to tie the ranger to the trailer. He had gotten the drive shaft part of the way off when the truck rolled back off of the trailer. The rangers frame pinned Cory to the ground crushing his rib cage as he was lying sideways beneath it.

Ry tried to roll the truck back forward, but it wouldn’t budge. He saw blood coming from Cory’s nose, ran to the house, had me call 911, and grabbed a jack from the garage. I made the call and went to see if there was anything I could do. As Ry tried to lift the ranger as much as possible to relieve some of the pressure, I tried to keep Cory from moving until help arrived. I held his hand and tried to keep his legs still. I could see the blood coming out his nose and mouth as well and new his injuries were going to be severe. He was gripping my hand for a little while, but eventually that grip let go. I couldn’t tell if he was breathing anymore or not.

The fire crew got there in around 5 minutes which is excellent for a volunteer department. We have a great set of people here. I got back and let them go to work. They got the truck lifted and got Cory in the ambulance. Ry said they had the oxygen mask on him, so I was a bit hopeful he might make it.

We found out later that he did not. He pretty much had died while he was pinned. I think it was when his grip let go from mine.

I have never been that close to death and I never wish to be again.

So that is what happened. I want to thank you all for your concern about me and Ry. It means a lot to me.

I especially want to thank Maniac. We ended up talking via messenger right after the incident and he helped to keep me calm.

And thank you TragicStory for my wonderful surprise. Very shiny! I'll never look at my Visa the same way again.

Also a thank you to Succatash. We wrote a while on messenger yesterday as well and he helped me to keep my mind off things for a little while.

the only words i have are these;

every once in awhile, if you feel like a warm blanket has surrounded you in strength, love and support, smile dear one and know that the browncoats are concentrating all thoughts, and prayers in your direction.

spirits up...we'll always be here.

I found the way, by the sound of your voice--so many things to say.
These are only words. Now I've only words. Once there was a choice.

I want to thank you all for your thoughts. It means a lot to me and Ry.

We are doing better. Life goes on I guess. We are pretty much back to normal, but still think about it quite a bit. Will probibly be a long while before we don't. But it is getting easier for me to talk about it. Thank you for letting me do so here.

I have a real good support group here at work as well. Only a few know about it, but those who do have been great, letting me know they care and "if there's anything I can do...". Makes me feel good to know people actually do worry about me.

You all are the shiniest bunch of Browncoat friends a person could have.
