Hey all

This thread is dedicated to all the romantics on this site.

Here's another "favorite movie moment" thread for all us film geeks.

What's like the most romantic moment you've seen in a flick? Just a moment that made you swoon and made you giddy with the idea of true love and all that.

For me, one moment that's pretty high was in a pretty recent flick called BEFORE SUNSET. It's this indie sequel to a movie that cme out nearly ten years earlier called BEFORE SUNRISE. Both of these movies are just Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy walking and talking through a European city (Vienna in SUNRISE and Paris in SUNSET) about anything and everything. I know it might not sound like much, but in my mind, these are two "date" movies that are far more satisfying than any romantic comedy jargon you're forcefed.

Anyways, at the end of BEFORE SUNSET, they're both at her apartment and he puts on "Just in Time" by Nina Simone. And as he's on the couch, the gal starts to sway and dance and sing along to the song. It's not much, and it's a completely ambiguous ending. You don't know if he's going to go and catch his plane, or if he's going to stay there. ("Baby, you are going to miss your plane.";"I know.") And the last shot is just her swaying to the song before it fades to black and to the credits.

I know some gals at the screening I went to were like "What the hell was that?" But to me, that ambiguous ending was one of the most romantic moments I've seen in a movie.

So any BEFORE SUNRISE/SUNSET fans here? And what are some of your favorite romantic movie moments.

I've not seen either of those sorry, but the whole airport thing put me in mind of the end of Gardenstate (the Zack Braff movie) where they are sat on the steps and he's all 'oh I have to go back to LA and take time to sort my head out'
(and every female in the place is screaming 'no you t****r, stay! Stay with the girl who made your life worth living again! you idiot! amd she's all 'if you go back to LA i'll never see you again (girls in the crowd? 'listen to her you t***pot!') but he gives her this little speech (which is the first time in my life i've ever wanted to smack a Zack-character in the mouth) and goes to get his plane.

and then...*for those as want to watch it*

Select to view spoiler:

you see him sitting on the plane with all these people getting on and messing around, then you see him pulling her out of the phone booth where she's been winging and they snog and the song goes all loud and breath taking and its just the only film that can make me almost cry

oh, and pretty much the whole of Truly Madly Deeply.

Yeah, that was another great moment. Not only in a romantic sense, but on the whole. GARDEN STATE is so far my fave film of the decade and the last twenty minutes or so is just the most incredible thing.

the bit where they are sat in the bath tub is quite touching as well, the whole film is just so great, the whole 'quest' sequence ending with that great shot of the abyss, hey, natalie portman in a bin bag, thats pretty much unmissable.

yeah, the bathtub scene is amazing. but the most romantic moment ever is definitely when they kiss while looking over the abyss...especially since peter sarsgaard is just standing there looking awkward and slightly amused:D

I'm not a gushy romantic chick flick type, however one movie that makes my heart swell and brings tears is Ladyhawk. This is the finest romantic movie I've seen, it's not so much unrequited love but a cursed love, always together, always apart.

Example:

The scene when they make the pit and Isabo (love her name) is alongside Rutger (what was his name in the movie?) The suns rising and he's beginning to turn back, she watches as his fur slowly turns flesh and she's weeping because it's been so long since they'd been this way together, then he realizes she's there beside him and he turns to her, they look in shock and you can see the love they have for each other, it practically electrifies the screen. The sit and stare, she's crying, they reach for each other....

Then she turns into the damn hawk and flies away and he is crushed.... feeling weepy just thinking about it. One thing also about this movie, it's one of the rare ones I scream at. Dammit don't slowly reach out to him, jump on the bugger and hold him. *sigh*

The end is good too when he thinks she's dead and then he hears her call his name and he turns and he sees her in the flesh... and he stands there stunned.... man that was a good movie. If it wasn't for the music it would be a great movie, top 5. Rutger's best role as far as I'm concerned.

So my choice for best romantic scene or movie, it's Ladyhawk all the way. Not many romance movies can move me like that one. *sob*sob* They should have a weeping emote....

If I'm a bitch, then life just got interesting
