Since I didn't see another week 2 thread, I thought I'd start one.

Previous week:
http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=18971

So, Sat we did grocery shopping, which intails walking 15 min both ways, one way, of course, carrying our groceries.

My weekly goal is the same as last. Workout mon-fri this week. As I can check off today, I've started out good

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Speaking of groceries, the wife & I decided to purchase healthier items for our meals. We have paid particular attention to cutting out most of the sweets, watching carbs, and eliminating a lot of starches.

We of course have had to be more creative w/ recipes, but so far so good.

My wife is German and apparently they eat differently over there. One can read that as, a whole lot healthier than I used to. Needless to say, shortly after we started living together, my diet changed somewhat

Now I actually find that I can't eat a lot of the things that I used to (eg McDonalds). They actually makes me nauseous now.

Have you tried Thai food? Very healthy and very very good! Also, quite easy to make

Just gotta watch how much curry/spices you put in

@Serenity28:
Welcome aboard

I've found these threads quite motivating. For instance, I wouldn't have worked out this morning if I didn't feel the need to report back

I hope these threads provide you with similar motivation. Even if you don't feel the need to report back to us regularly

Ok, hit the gym again yesterday afternoon. Worked out on the weights for 35 minutes. Did cardio for 40 minutes; 20 on the bike w/ hills program & 20 on the treadmill @ 4.5 mph.

I'll weigh in again on Friday.

Willpower?

Really it can be a chore so I try to make it fun, more of a challenge than a chore. This thread & the support of the browncoats helps a lot. I also take my MP3 or CD player w/ some music to motivate me.

I find once I actually get to the gym & start working out I get into this frame of mind where I can let everything else melt away & just focus on lifting weights or putting one foot in front of the other when I jog on the treadmill. It allows me to let the cares & stress of the real world go & focus on some simple physical exertion.

You should try it out SigmaNunki.

Congratulations! On the five lost pounds, not the stomach virus.

Perhaps you could market the stomach virus as the next big weight loss program. LOL!

Certainly true. I probably wouldn't have made my goal last week if it weren't for last weeks thread. Probably wouldn't have started this week either.

I envy you. I can't just focus on working out, never could. There's always some math or programming some such sitting in my brain. Though I can focus on those things... weird.

At any rate, the only thing that I can do right now is what I can do in my living room; money constraints.

But, what I would like to do, when I come into money again, is get back into martial arts. Also, wall climbing and stuff like that would be fun too

I'm joining up with this fitness club thread.

I'll start with stats and goals:
Stats
Female
5'8.5" (i tell everyone i'm 5'9")
145 pounds

Goal(s)
1. Back down to 115-120 lbs. It's what my drivers license says and I'd like to be back down to it.
2. Work out 5-6 days a week
3. Eat less and healthier
4. Limit myself to 1 or 2 nights of drunken revelry.

This shouldn't be too terrible to accomplish. I've managed to successfully shoot my metabolism to hell, but aside from that it's all good. I have wasted one of my drinking nights already this week--yay for Sundays. But I did work out yesterday and will tomorrow, etc etc.

Good luck everyone!

I've decided I want to slim down somewhat. I don't want to tell you guys my weight right now cause it'll make you think I'm a lot bigger than I am. I've stopped drinking for a while and started to eat less. Also trying to eat healthier. My car is broken so I have to walk to work also I'm going back to being the old me so I'll be a lot more energetic and happier.

It depends on what you want to accomplish. But, always listen to you body. If you feel sore or uncomfy or whatever, stop. If you think no pain, no gain, you have no brain (just thought that one up myself I did Seriously, no insult intended. Shiny? ).

Generally (and this is from a long ago memory) if you want bulk/strength, fewer reps, heavier weight and for tone/endurance, lighter and more reps.

Again, from what I remember, 3 sets of 8-12 reps for each exercise is the workout. Escentially, the idea is that the muscles from the first exercise are rested before the next set comes around.

Aside from that, you should make sure that all the muscle groups are exercised.

Also, you could do, upper body one day and lower body the next. If you do this for 6 days then a day of entire rest, it'd make an even week. Or do both upper and lower mon-wes-fri and take the weekend off. Or...

Really depends on your schedule.

For me, I chose my exercises and am still on 1 set. Yes, I'm that out of shape. Probably next week I'll try 2 sets. I do this mon-fri and it doesn't take that long at all.

I'm building up slowly, because I know that if I don't get into a "everyday" routine, I'll stop doing it. So, everyday is more important to me than doing all the sets that I'm "supposed" to be doing. I'm just going to work my way up as my body lets me

And once I get 3 sets ok, I think I'll break out my Pilates for Dummies DVD again.

At any rate, as I think I just illistrated just how far I am from I am from my long term goal, I'll go to bed now. Hope that was somewhat helpful...

Good luck and g'night

Well, I will be going to the gym again today. Arms are still a bit sore from the workout Monday. Must have overdid the weight a bit.

My goal weight is 200 lb. I have a ways to go.

Hi all,
As I sit at my desk downing a chocolate bar, I'm thinking it would be good motivation for me to join your thread.

I'm looking to drop about 15 pounds, currently at 172 lbs. I was supposed to start doing cardio at home this week but I have yet to actually get on the machine. So it goes.

Good news is a friend is giving me an old DVD player today. If I hook it up this afternoon, I can watch Firefly while I work out! Ahh, the ultimate motivation. I want to be as desirable to Jayne as that gun he likes so much!

I should revamp my diet as well. Any one have any good recipes? Tofu or veggie, or chicken/turkey? Trying to lay off the beef and pork.

Vera: I'm a vegetarian, so of course I'm biased but tofu and veggies are delicious. I don't know a lot of recipes because I'm not really one for cooking, but I'm a big fan of Pad Thai with tofu. You can pick up the pad thai basic mix at a grocery store and then follow the package and add tofu or chicken if you wanted. Red or black beans & rice is another one of my favorites and my roommate always cooks chicken with hers so I assume that's good as well.

So I need to edit my stats. Apparently I'm back up to 150 after last week's binge. Oops.

Just finished my workout. 30 minutes on the elliptical and 15 on the treadmill. Plus I walk to, from, and all around campus every day.

Things Thai are great as long as it isn't of the fried variety. Just watch how much spices/curry goes in

Indian food is good as well... mmmmm, Korma....

But, Indian food is also quite time consuming to make. Your local grocery store should have some pre-made sauces and such.

That being said, of course the general rule is, if you have trouble pronouncing the ingrediants, or they sound all chemically, it probably isn't that great for you.

Also, learning to cook other cultures foods can be wacky fun in its own right It's just that the taste buds might have to pay a bit in the begining

Variety is always a good thing. And I wouldn't call jumping rope a kiddie thing as boxers do it. That is, unless you want to call a boxer a girly man

Also, the kid in us needs to be released from time to time. Otherwise we risk becoming some bitter person.

It's all good, keep it up

Okay Wednesday workout went pretty well. 30 minutes on the weights, 20 minutes on the treadmill, 30 minutes on the stationary bike w/ a steady incline program.

Felt pretty good when I got home. I'll be going to the gym again this afternoon & will weigh in.

Keep up the good work everyone!

No time for a snack, but lucky for me I finished today's workout with time to eat afterward.

Yay.

Wow, sounds like everyone has been doing a pretty good job sticking with this. I am quite impressed. I've fallen behind a bit but the lovely weather we've been having is just enough to get me back outside and eating better again.

I love how nice weather really brings out a change in behavior. The same thing happens to me.

Anyway, yeah. I finished my workout today and it was good.

The scale is claiming that I've lost 3 pounds since the other day, but I'm not entirely sure I believe that. It's probably just water weight. Whatever though, I was still excited.

Heck yes I'm ready for Week 3!!

Only worked out for 30 minutes today,,,kind of felt like a failure for that, but whatever. I blame daylight savings because I accidentally slept until 3:15 in the afternoon.

Way to go, I'm really proud of you guys for sticking with it. You'll be glad you did.

As for what to do with yourself while you're doing cardio, I like to listen to either the Firefly Talk or The Signal podcasts. They're usually about an hour, which gives you a few minutes to stretch, a strong 30-45 minutes of treadmill, elliptical, or cycling, and another few minutes for cooldown. Works great and the Firefly and Serenity content keeps your mind occupied while your body is working hard. Especially true when Firefly talk is replaying the convention interviews.

Keep it up! Go Go Go! You can do it! You ARE doing it!

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Okay, worked out again on Friday. Did weights for 35 minutes, 30 minutes (2.5 miles) on the treadmill w/ the hills program, then 35 minutes on the bike w/ the steady incline set.

Went walking w/ the wife afterwards on the trails at the park nearby. The pedometer said we put in 3.1 miles.

Starting tomorrow (thunderstorms today) a friend & I will be walking everyday at lunchtime.

Going to the gym again this afternoon.
