CYBERSNARK

So, my failure to find work in Ottawa has meant my involuntary return to Cornwall ("kidnapped by hill-folk, never to be seen again"). This means I'm living in my mom's house for the first time in over 8 years. Which by extension means that internet access is via this stone-aged piece of luh-suh, with an 800/600 resolution and a CPU as quick as a lobotomized tree sloth.

It also means no Serenity comics (no comic shop), novels (a single half-assed bookstore), or soundtracks (an equally half-assed music store), and likely no more than two viewings of the BDM ('cause I have no car and am at the mercy of non-fans to get to the town's one theatre). I will be pressuring my mother to order books online ('cause, being an aspiring writer, I need books like I need food), but she's both old and cheap, so it'll be an uphill struggle.

With luck, I'll be able to save up enough from whatever part-time jobs I can find here (which I know I will, just as I know they won't have anything to do with my chosen career) to escape this pit again and get back into the world. Preferably to Toronto, one of the only two cities in Canada where there actually is an entertainment industry to break into.

What all this means is that I might not be around much for the next while. I'm not leavin', by any means, but I am a spoilerphobe, and my "active fandom" (as we call it in Trek) is effectively cancelled. I'll be with you in spirit whenever possible, or advisable. I am, in short, grounded, but not dead.

Wish me luck at gettin' flying again.

Cybersnark, good luck!

Remember, look on the shiny side of things... Gorramit, I'm trying to think of something... Oh, I know! There haven't been any reaver sightings in Cornwall in, what, seven, eight years.

I'm sorry Cybersnark...
just be sure that for all birthdays & Christmas wish lists you ask for the
books
comic
action figures
etc...
talk to the local video rental place and see if they wouldn't like to start carrying comics...
I live in a very small town in Iowa, hundreds of miles from any decent stores, but I have managed to gather together quite a Whedonverse collection:

actually comics are not very expensive to buy or ship,
never give up! never give in!

good luck

I'm in Fairfield...probably 75 miles Southeast of Pella (I used to drive through Pella on my way to DesMoines, before they finished the by-pass)
I did go there for the tulip festival once!

Could the book or music store order stuff in for you? I used to do that before I moved to London (tended to take awhile though). Just a thought.

Anyway, good luck with tracking down the Serenity stuff and with getting work!!!

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Best of luck to you Cybersnark!

Sorry to hear you have hit a rough spot, but rest assured it won't last.

Keep Flyin' & come back soon.
