...of the Reavers?

I don't get it. They are supposed to be humans, right? (Granted, disgusting, skin-wearing cannibalistic humans) So what hurts or kills humans kills them too? It's not like they are exactly unarmed on board Serenity, especially with Vera around.

So what's the biggee? If they try to board, just shoot 'em!

And this is not supposed to be in Angelus Arcanum. I don't know where it goes, I didn't see the options...sorry.

I think it's a superior numbers thing. Yeah, you can kill 'em, but there's more just keep coming. Even Vera runs out of ammo eventually, and that's when the sewing-your-flesh-into-their-clothes thing starts.

they can't be reasoned with, they aren't afraid of the guns...
they don't try to avoid the bullets
they just keep coming and coming and coming...
so if Jayne is being rushed by 10 of them,
how many can he shoot (one or two) before the rest get him and bring him down....

they may be human, but they don't act like it

So what's the biggie?!? You're telling me that if a mangled, skin-wearing, rapist, cannibal, lunatic came lunging out at you from the darkness - that wouldn't even scare you a little? Man, you have some big 's...

***Never judge a book by its movie***

No, ya crazy! I'm saying if I was well-armed, I'd kill me some cannibals! Run out of ammo? Pick up another gun. Be Prepared for them. Get an old-fashioned gatling gun and set it up in the cargo bay to take them all out as soon as they hit the door!

A Reaver ship carries a finite number of them. They don't replicate like a clowns through a mini car! Just be ready and know that you will have to kill every. single. one of them.

It just seems doable in the Firefly 'verse. Think about it. It'd be like a swarm of voracious animals. Hunters always prepare for the possibility. I think Mal would be savvy enough to take on enough firepower to stave off a Reaver attack. I mean it isn't like they are Terminator cyborgs, you know?

There has to be one of you out there who gets what I'm saying.

At the same time, psychology plays a part in this. When people snap like that, they reach a point where things like pain don't register the same, if at all. So yeah, you might shoot one dead in the chest, but if he's still alive, he's likely to jump right back up. And due to their environs, they are likely to be much stronger, faster, tougher, and more agile than most normal humans. And as near as I can tell, Jayne and Inara got real spooked by the reavers. Mal and Zoe weren't scared so much, but definitely concerned. As seen in Bushwacked, they can be crafty (ie. booby-trapping a ship they'd just hit), and they probably have guns too. So more numbers, also have guns, don't feel pain (or anything else excepting maybe hunger and rage), not to mention being faster/stronger/tougher. It's a formidable foe at the very least.

Yes, but formidable enough to be the villans in a major motion picture?

guess we'll just have to wait and see? in joss we trust eh?

I mean.. they are kinda like zombies.. or borg.. so cheer up, maybe there'll be a "reaver-queen" hehehe (sorry, borg joke)

anyway, I never thought of them as the main antagonist in the film anyway, that's the alliance. the reavers are just there for spice imo.

CYBERSNARK

Well, ever since I first heard of the reavers, I've been comparing them to the magog from Pre-Suck Andromeda. They had an interesting trick.

Magog, like reavers aren't bulletproof; they're just really tough, can go "berserker" (they don't feel pain), and are fully prepared to rip through the corpses (or even the slow-moving living bodies) of their fellows to eat/rape/infest their targets.

What they also do is shun doors. They like to get into the walls/floors/ceilings and spread all through the ship before they jump out screaming.

A full-scale assault, the reavers might not come storming through the cargo doors, or through the airlocks. They might suddenly pop out of the floor, or come crawling through the open spaces around the engine. If they have spacesuits, they could literally turn up just about anywhere.
