ANGELDOVE

I was just wondering if anyone had thought about this. With BTVS ep Hush having been nominated for an Emmy, I was wondering which ATS Season 5 ep you thought could be a contender (if the Emmy's or Golden Globes had any sense at all that is)

I just recently re-watched Season 5 (Divx downloads from Buffy.nu, gotta lovem) and I am torn between two:

A Hole In The World
Smile Time

They are obviously at opposite ends of the spectrum, except of course the oppening of AHITW Astronaugt vs Caveman argument between Spike and Angel, I'm laughing right now just typing it.

And if it were all about ATS, I would definitly go with Amy Acker for Best Actress, absolutely without a doubt the best performance of the year. I mean if Jennifer Garner can keep getting nominated for Alias, a fantasy type show in itself (the Rambaldi Prophacy? if anyone here follows Alias at all they will know what I am talking about, not your average CIA show) then why can't they look past the small network status and see Amy for the great actress she is? It has happened before, Micheal Chicklis, FX, Tony Shalube, USA. So perhaps, perhaps we have some kind of chance? Or am I just way too drunk right now?

Aside from the rather depressing lack of buildup due to no time, I think Not Fade Away was my favorite. Though A Whole in the World was easily my favorite(and best) up to that point.(I downloaded it that night to watch it again!)

I guess purely for quality, not my favoritism, I'd agree A Whole in the World was the best.

I really did like smile time too though of course...

Very tough question, but I have to agree with you, Angeldove. It's a toss up between "Smile Time" and "A Whole In The World". Although, granted, "Not Fade Away" isn't far behind. If I had to choose ONE out of those three....I'm going to have to say "A Whole In The World". While I loved the other two, I think "Whole" was perhaps one of the most moving episodes in Buffyverse history.

And I would DEFINITELY say there aren't many others out there that deserve the Best Actress award more than Amy Acker.

Emmy Commitee...are you listening to this?!?!?!

My favorite episode of the year was "Damage", but it probably wouldn't make a good Emmy nominee. Also, while "Smile Time" is both hilarious and brilliant at the same time, it's also a scathing satire of the television industry - not something that the tv industry awards people are likely to vote for at all. So I'd have to agree with AHITW being the best candidate for an Emmy nomination.

Also, I've said this on other threads, Amy Acker's performance was the best by anyone EVER, not just this year. She deserves the Emmy, for sure. Unfortunately, she probably won't even get a nomination. As to Shaloob and Chiklis getting nominated from minor networks - yes, but those are both detective/cop shows - the standard Emmy fodder. Also, while "Alias" is really just as much of a fantasy show as "Buffy", it wasn't initially presented that way, so people still don't think of it in those terms.

Sorry, I'm a cynical pessimist, but the upside of that is that the rare times that anything good, or fair or just actually happens, it's always a pleasant surprise. Here's hoping for a pleasant Amy Acker surprise at Emmy time.

Nitpicky aside: Any particular reason why so many people insist of writing A Whole In The World instead of A Hole In The World?

I'd have to say Damage too, although to be honest I don't really think any of the S5 eps are Emmy-worthy in comparison to what has gone before (on Angel I mean not in terms of what else has won Emmys!). In acting terms though, Denisof is deserving of awards for just about every single one, save perhaps Why We Fight. Excuse me I need to go repress that episode some more...

Amy and Alexis most definitely need emmys, as does A Hole in the World. Oh, and can David Boreanaz have one just for his cumulative greatness over the years? In that case we'll have to give Charisma Carpenter one too, and J. August Richards should have one as well. While we're at it, Christian Kane is an amazing actor who should have gotten oen for Dead End, so we should make that right now. And of course we can't forget the wonderful wonderfulness of Andy Hallet! And if these people all get them, then Vincent Kartheiser certainly deserves one! And then of couse Glenn Quinn's family should have an honorary one. And I suppose Mercedes McNab can't be the only regular without an emmy...shall I go on?

If it's not "Smile Time," then I don't know what it would be.

There were lots of great episodes during Season 5, but none of them had me pissing myself like "Smile Time." The Spike/PuppetAngel fight alone was worth the entire hour of watching...and the slow-motion "we're so cool" moment as the team was going into battle actually made me cry, I was laughing so damned hard.

Plus, puppet vampire...your mark of quality television.

"Smile Time," and if not, WHY not?

So, after the Emmy noms, MSNBC had this to say:

Where’s Amy Acker, whose devastating performance as the doomed Fred on “Angel” took an even more heart-wrenching turn as the fallen god who took over her body?

Entire article located at www.buffy.nu

So there you have it. I don't think any of us were holding our breath on this one.

Should I even bother with thoughts of The Golden Globes?
