Thanks for the compliments, guys. I wasn't sure that all the detail would come out, as it's actually A3 sized and I had to shrink it down.

0.0 Bloody hell! That's stunning! Well done CantonHereoine!

I'm a fellow artist, but my work isn't anywhere near the quality displayed here. Do you have a portfolio of Firefly drawings that you submit to the Blue Sun Room? I'd love to see other examples of your work!

Thanks for sharing! Welcome to the site too!

10/10!

Keep flying!

Cos - It's actually my first Firefly sketch. I'm working on another one at the moment (Jayne again, of course). I do have a whole portfolio of X-Files, Star Wars and Buffy pics, though.

HEY!!! This is AWESOME!!! Way to go! Did you use charcoal? Pencil? A picture for reference or what? NICE!! VERY NICE!!!!! (More please! haha)!
Monday, 07 November 2005 02:37
It's pencil. The trick to the shading is to use every hardness of pencil from 3H through to 6B, going from light to dark and building it up layer by layer. I use a very fine cross-hatch technique and a magnifying glass to get the detail.

It can be very time-consuming work. This one took me a couple of weeks. I could probably post it again bigger, if anyone would like, so you can see some of the actual pencil lines.

Great stuff! Definitely one of the best freehand pieces of art of seen on here. You said you had other non-Firefly examples. Do you have a website where they are displayed?

I'd like to see a close up ifyou have it. I was an animator in another life... (long story) so I appreciate classical art/drawing/sketching.

Forget doing Mal next. Do WASH! :)
