It happens every few days. Another planet. Another port. Another body. She brings the body pleasure and he brings them pain.

Everyday she watches as he brings a new body pain. Death by bullet. By hand. On occasion by engine. She watches and wishes that for once she could be the one doing the pain instead of pleasure. She lives a life full of pleasure yet she is so unable to feel any for herself. She envies the man that so easily bring pain to those who deserve it. Were she to chose that life she would find it difficult to bring harm to anyone. But she would for him.

Everyday he watches as she brings a new body pleasure. Pleasure by sex. By oils. Even pleasure by tea. He watches and wishes that for once he could be the one recieving such pleasure instead of living through this torture.

He lives a life without pleasure and is incapable of finding such peace. He envies the unworthy men who recieve such exquisite pleasure. Were he to chose that life he would find it difficult to be so constrained. But he would for her.

Every few days they watch in envy as she brings another man pleasure and he brings another one pain.

I was just gonna do this like: Mal envies the men Inara sleeps with. but I was like "Nah Inara should be jealous too." Sorry if it was kinda boring. I'm hoping the next ones will be better.

NEXT: Sloth... this should be interesting

I had never once considered Inara envying Mal's ability to bring pain to his enemies and can't really seeing Inara feeling that. After all we know she can fight but it is an interesting possibility. Ali D :~)

I find this to be a fascinating look at both characters feeling envy, xSweetSerenityx!

I sadly have to disagree with Alison 's comment though...I think Inara would feel envious of Mal's ability to bring pain, to actually act on his feelings and urges (dangerous and shortsighted as they might be) without fear of social reprisal. The fight against the Reavers on Mr. Universe's moon was probably the first time Inara really had to use violence against anyone (that we have seen or been told about), and it was definitely about personal survival...but I gotta wonder if just the concept (the act of using fatal force on someone without drastic cause would definitely be anathema to Inara's Buddhist beliefs) would occasionally appeal to her;)
