Jewel Staite's Talent
Thursday, January 26, 2012

I'm enthusiastically blogging about Jewel because, well, why not? If you were to look up "undervalued actress" in an encyclopedia, you might just find a picture of Jewel. Is it just me, or does anyone else think that the role of Jane Foster in "Thor" would have been so much better if it had been played by Jewel? That's just ONE example. She's been acting since she was knee high to a grasshopper and every bit of that experience shows.

I would love to see her branch into more feature films. What I would really love to see is her paired up with o...say...Matt Damon, or Jude Law in a film with a great screenplay and a top notch director. Not only do I think either one of these actors would have great chemistry with her on the big screen, but just as a few examples, these are actors with raw talent who would take the ball all the way down the court and slam dunk it right along with her EVERY time for a director.

Joss Whedon enthusiastically raved about her and with good reason when you watch her performances. Nathan Fillion was always extremely impressed with her when you listen to his Firefly commentaries. ALL of Jewel's performances are instant classics. She has that extremely rare, mysterious talent of making an audience want to watch her scenes again and again just like that of Judi Dench or Morgan Freeman.

To every director from Michael Mann to Frank Darabont, if you want two thumbs up, Jewel has been right there under your noses and she's just that...a Jewel. Give her a great LEAD role that earns her a little gold statue named Oscar...better yet...give her two.

MORE Jewel Staite please!

By the way, can anyone tell me where I can reliably track what conventions she'll be appearing at? I don't do twitter and it would be cool to meet her some day.

That's so true BLUEEYEDBRIGADIER. They canceled "Hercules the legendary Journeys" in late 1999 just because they were seeing numbers drop for the one hour action shows. (Gina Torres was awesome in that buy the way...but I'm saving that for another blog) The Producer said it might have continued for another season or two had that not been the case (even though it at least had a chance to fully bloom into multiple seasons before it was plucked). Reality television was beginning to ramp up on MTV (which has nothing to do with music anymore) and with shows like "Survivor" in 2000. That was two years before Firefly aired even though it had everything you could ask for in an hour of entertainment, not just action. I guess you could say the same for "Herc" although it heavily tilted toward action. Maybe I'm a little out of touch, but it seems to me that if reality TV keeps going full-throttle the way it is, it's days are seriously numbered.

I think it's a matter of "right time, right project" when it comes to things like this. I mean, Nathan had to land "Castle," and Morena had to get "V" and "Homeland" to get their deserved accolades.

Jewel does like to drink a lot, doesn't she? :)

I kinda doubt anything like that is going to happen in Dallas next month, but I can dream about it.

I agree!!

And I met Jewel last Oct at a convention in Orlando...and it was amazing!! I only went to the Convention to see Jewel, and I flew all the way down to meet her from Ottawa Canada. She made me feel like a million dollars. The convention was really good too because there werent that many people, so you were able to have more one on one time with the stars. They had a cocktail party and dinner on sat that the platinum members got to participate in and it was AMAZING!! I was talking with Jewel and her friend Mike at the party, then was at Jewels table for the dinner. Where she told me and the girl sitting next to her that her and her hubby were seperated. she was very open and talkative. Her friend Mike was funny and good with all of use fans, honestly they both treated us like we were all friends. Then when it was over (Jewels table was the last to leave the room, they practically kicked us out) I was going to the washroom(because of all the Vodka-Orange juice I had drank) and so I said bye to Jewel and Mike and thought I would just see them the next day....and low and behold, when Im done with the facilities I start walking back to my room and was passing a group of scifi fans and Mike was there and he told me to hold on....then I found out that jewel was talking to the fans and he told me to wait. So when he was able to get Jewel away from the fans, she told me that her and Mike were taking me to get a drink in the hotel bar. I was like WTF!! so Jewel grabbed my arm and away we went. A fellow conventioner came with(he was really nice, and actually was the reason I was able to get at Jewels table, another long story) and so the 4 of us had drinks for 2 hrs until the bar closed. Then we went to bed...and Jewels room was on the same floor as mine, creepy!! And on sun when the convention was over and Jewel had to stick around to get paid, we (her, mike and i) went back to the hotel bar for drinks to wait, and we talked somemore and she was just amazing...when they were leaving, they went up to our floor cause she was getting her stuff from her room and so they both gave me a hug and said that they had fun too. And Mike was emailing me that night asking if I had dinner and that him and Jewel were talking about me...I dont think I could stress enough how much fun I had. I went to the convention with the expectation of it being a 5 out of 10 and it ended up being a 100 out of 10.

I dont know if she is able to do that at other conventions that have hundreds upon hundreds of fans, but from this lucky Canadian I couldnt have had a lovlier time if I had imagined it myself!!

the only thing is I wished I had taken more pics, but because I was always with her i didnt want to be all up in her face with my camera, that would have been rude!

hope this wasnt too long...

Jewel is a guest for the London Film and Comic Con, July 6 to 8, 2012
http://www.londonfilmandcomiccon.com/index.php?option=com_flexicontent&view=items&cid=70&id=367&Itemid=23

http://www.jewel-staite.org doesn't have this old news, for some reason.
http://www.jewelstaite.com says, "New Site Coming Soon." It has been saying that since July 2011.

Hmm, has someone forgotten to keep her publicity machinery running smoothly?

I'll be seeing her next month at the Sci-Fi Expo in Dallas. Adam Baldwin, Ron Glass and Sean Maher will be there too, as well as Eliza Dushku.

So very true. Jewel is a fantastic actor!
Her performance as Raquel in The L.A Complex is astounding :) Have you seen it? The episodes are up on youtube, for those who don't live in Canada
