Shindig
Wednesday, July 14, 2010

Okay, one of the reasons I probably find this recent news clip so funny is because I feel the same way about my colleagues. But the use of the word 'shindig' makes it priceless for me. Could be Professor Varanasi's a Browncoat.

When Nobel Prize-winning scientist Professor Prasad Varanasi retired recently, he seized the opportunity to stick it to the employers who'd made him msierable for decades. "I do not know how to tell you this but my heart is not in this retirement celebration shindig," he wrote to his boss at Stony Book University, New York. "I will not be there at the lunch you are planning for me. I hate Bob Cess [a fellow professor who had also been invited]. I hate the entire mechanical engineering department. I hate the way you all treated me over the last 43 years...I say the hell with you all. I hope the Stony Brook stink will not stay on my skin when I leave here and go happily to Hawaii. With nothing good to say about any of you, I remain, Prasad Varanasi.

Pure gold.
