Does anyone know where I can go to find out about conventions and shindigs? I really want to go to a convention!

I'd just google science fiction conventions - then the state or city you live in? I'm sorry I can't be of more help - the conventions I've gone to I heard about from other fans. I don't know of any 'master list' - shindigs are usually a few folk who know one another and live close by; although there is a Browncoat Ball that's JUST for fans. Ok so I found out about the conventions, but, I would like to know if there are any near Washington, Idaho and Oregon.
