Well, I guess the big question is, "which game are you playing?"

If you're using the Serenity RPG ruleset that MWP put out last year then I would deffinately recomend starting with a copy of the source-book if you haven't got one, or at least borrow a copy from somebody in your group (I'm assuming that you're playing a tabletop P&P game here).

The first one has a good message board with a lot of play discussion for prolonging session life, and the second page has a multitude of printable resources to expand and add depth to the game while also making things easier on the player (ie: business card sized, pre-stated weapon cards with full info and a little picture).

Well...I would suggest the Firefly Wiki, cuz I remember it discussing some of the major weaponry displayed enough to ensure you're not giving a firearm too much power or ammmo;)
