CAPTURE

I try to spell things right, but hey, I'm human, I make mistakes all the time, and besides, it seems like everytime I do spell something wrong, someone is always letting me know, so now I put little disclaimers up that say I don't spell very well. Whatever, all you can do is try...

Guess it comes down to the simple point of common sense. Like Arcadia rightly noted, not everyone who's a Browncoat speaks a variation on the Queen's English so for someone who speaks English as a second (or third or fourth or...) language, it makes things easier.

Besides...I don't think I am alone in saying I had evil teachers throughout public school (elementary and secondary) that made my life a living hell if I didn't attempt to have accurate spelling, grammar, punctuation and flow patterns;)

I'm not allowed to access this site at work, so I have limited time when I'm reading threads. If the writer doesn't take the time to spell correctly, I don't have time to interpret the results. I just skip that post and move on.

I can't speak for everyone, but the reason I try to pay attention to my own spelling is a courtesy thing. We have people on this board who are from all sorts of countries and whose native tongue is not English, some who are learning disabled, etc. It's easier for these people to understand when things are spelled correctly and not written in netspeak.

I'm always confused as to why so many people aren't concerned that they can't spell correctly. It's the English language. Learn it.
